Phobia Game Studio and Devolver Digital have revealed that Carrion, an upcoming 'reverse horror' game, will be launching on Nintendo Switch.
It was previously announced for Xbox One and PC, but this new reveal confirms that Switch will also be getting in on the action alongside those releases this summer. No exact release date has been given for any platform, but we're told to expect more news "soon".
So, what is a reverse horror game? Well, you'll be playing as the monster, rather than the heroic human shooting it into oblivion. You'll find an older, slightly meatier trailer below, showing just how much fun you'll have floating around and killing all of the people who trapped you.
Carrion is a reverse horror game in which you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin. Stalk and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility. Grow and evolve as you tear down this prison and acquire more and more devastating abilities on the path to retribution.
Want more good news? Switch owners will be able to grab a physical copy of the game, too. Again, more details are expected soon.

looks interesting, will keep an eye out for it.
That's interesting, usually Devolver Digital games get their physical releases via Special Reserve Games. Is that not the case this time?
Edit: It is Special Reserve Games that will be handling the physical publication.

Details are limited at the moment.
If you were ever looking for a game that lets you be the classic movie monster The Blob, here's your game.
This could be good fun. I'm a fan of Devolver Digital, I have a few of their published games. I really like the look of their next one, 'Ruiner,' which releases this week.
Been keeping an eye on this one for a while. Really excited.
ok you have my attention....
A decent review and a nice sale price and I’m in.
Looks like another Metroidvania, but one with a gruesome and bloody aesthetic. A Meatroidvania, if you will...
I remember seeing a preview of this a while back. I think it's a genius idea for the genre, deffinately on my wish list.
Art kind of reminds me of Butcher.
Looks cool! Definitely one to keep an eye on
@diegoarthur I think it's the same developers.
Also there is a demo on GOG, I tried it and it's cool!
I played a demo when Steam did this "indie showcase" thing and it was pretty good.
yes. Need more games like this on Switch for adult gamers. Sorry, not a fan of Pokemon or Animal Crossing. I was hoping this would make its way to Switch.
I played Carrion on Steam last year when they were showcasing the demo. It's fun. Your monster is underpowered early on, at least, so you have to be devious and sneak/use distractions to get the upper hand in battles. Especially against the drones and flamethrower dudes.
Between that and Ruiner, I'm going to start buying more Devolver Digital games.
I just wish they'd port Metal Wolf Chaos XD as well.
I'm SO excited for this title. This and Silksong are my most anticipated games for Switch. Big fan of these sort of indie games and can't wait. The idea is bonkers. Pretty into it.
@OorWullie Ruiner looks amazing. I need to see a review that confirms that it performs properly on switch, and then I'm down to buy it.
Devolver digital have got great taste when it comes to publishing cool indie games.
That's an immensely cool cover.
I'm very interested in this one since I first heard of it. Getting to play the abomination is always a big selling point to me, plus I really like the artstyle on this one. Will probably get it on PC.
@Dman10 Slightly offended, adults play whatever games they want. While games like Pokemon were designed for kids you can't tell me they made a turn-based fighting system that complex for kids. As for Animal Crossing, I used to like it as a kid but not really with this new one the juries out on that. As for not enough "Adult" games on Switch, there are plenty of rated "M" games on Switch but do know that this is still Nintendo you can't expect to find everything you want on it.
Been hoping this would be announced for Switch, too! Good old Devolver 😊
Carrion my wayward son!
wth is reverse horror? Do you chase scared monsters?
@Jokerwolf Haha! That's a brilliant pun. XD
@Reigestugatensho I jumped over from PSP and Vita to Switch (my first Nintendo handheld); those Sony handhelds had more games geared towards me. I have been in heaven with Borderlands, Bioshock, Witcher 3, Saints Row making their way to Switch. That is what I mean by rated M games. Carrion will be a perfect fit for my taste. Maybe GTA and NHL will make their way to Switch (my dream handheld games). Because there is no Vita successor, adult gamers like me have made the jump to Switch. Sorry, if we invaded your PG based realm.
Kinda annoyed by pixel graphics at this point....but...I'll keep an eye on this one. I hate horror in general, but if I can be the monster, then fine. lol
@Dman10 Nah I see what you mean now that you elaborated. I've been on nothing but Nintendo Consoles my whole life. So I never really got to play anything more mature or adult. Most 'M' games actually didn't interest me... But this really looks great!
@Tempestryke Reverse Horror refers to games where instead of being scared out of your mind by something orsomeone, you are deliberately causing the horror. If you've ever heard of Dead By Daylight it also follows Reverse Horror but to a lesser extent because you don't always play as the 'monster'. Hope that clears everything up.
I love games where you could play as the monster instead of the helpless characters. It's the reason I love games like Splatterhouse, Rampage, and Demon's Crest.
Am I really the first one to mention Sea Salt here?
Anyways, I think this game looks pretty interesting.
@Reigestugatensho Thank you for the explanation.
