If you watched the live stream of the Splatoon 2 World Championship 2019, you probably saw the Japanese team, known as the "GG BOYZ", defend their title and out-splat teams from the United States, Europe and Australia/New Zealand.
After the championship trophy had been awarded, Nintendo announced what we had all feared was coming. The final Splatoon 2 Splatfest. This event is being referred to as the "Splatocalypse" and will start on 18th July and run for 72 hours.
You'll have to side with either chaos (Pearl) or order (Marina) in this ultimate battle. To celebrate the grand finale, a new Shifty Station stage will be added to the final Splatfest. All of the 23 other Splatfest-specific stages will be making a return as well. Here's some more information from the PR about how it will work:
The 23 previous stages will surface in a constantly...shifting rotation for the first 48 hours, with the new stage making its debut for the final 24-hour period. Special in-game gear will also be distributed in honor of this Splatfest via players’ Nintendo Switch news feed.
As noted, you'll be able to score some special gear via Nintendo Switch news feed, so don't forget to redeem it while you can.
Later on, in July, an update (Version 5.0.0) will add Turf War (Splatfest) to the modes players can select in Private Battle. This new mode will allow players to enjoy Turf War on 24 stages at nighttime, including the new Shifty Station stage.
Will you be participating in the Splatoon 2 Splafest finale? Who will you be siding with? Tell us down in the comments.

Considering how Splatoon 1's final splatfest impacted the second game. All of you had better choose carefully.
What I take from this is Splatoon 3 will be set in a post apocalyptic future?
Welcome to the Splatocalypse, Mr Squidward. I hope you like chaos.
It should named Chaos vs Cosmos
Kinda good name choice, we will see who will be win.
Order all the way
@TheAwesomeBowser "I prefer suede."
@patbacknitro18 well it's already post apocalyptic so it would be double post apocalyptic
I hope they patch Shifty Station into the regular battle rotation and the Splatfest music into the main game.
Kinda sad that Splatoon 2 Splatfests are coming to an end but at least it's going to end on a high note. Gonna be great playing through all the old Shifty Stations again, some of them are super fun.
So next year we will learn about Splatoon 3 or whatever the team may be working on. May not release next year, but maybe we will learn more about the new game
I don’t play Splatoon, but I’ve always noticed how many of you enjoy these events. Hope y’all enjoy this one and there isn’t a long wait for the next game.
@ImprobableToast Well technically. It's a post-apocalypse for humans since we all died. But the Squid people have built their own society, so for them not really.
This is upsetting and exciting at the same time. Splatoon 3 should have a Judd and Li'l Judd show.
ive been considering picking up splatoon 2 to see what all the hype is about, but now i think i will wait to see if a splatoon 3 is coming out. also my fingers can’t remember how to play both botw and smash, so maybe i shouldn’t add in a third game.
Chaos is obligated to win so that Splatoon 3's single player is set during a post-apocalyptic future.
Gotta support my home girl Marina. Despite wanting to choose chaos. Oh well, may an era of order reign!
My inner Warhammer 40k player is telling me to go Chaos for this.
As much as i enjoy splatfest, it's not like splatoon is coming to an end. Plenty more splatting shall take place 😆
Ive had talk about this being like Shin Megami Tensei... Both sides can potentially lead us to something bad heading into Splatoon 3... When you think about it, if Chaos won, then thered be chaos to deal with but if Order won, there would be some bad order, like CONTROL to fight off. Im anticipating this and going for Chaos, because I sense the predictable Marina fanbase to fall into this trap and Ill be enjoying to undo the mistakes later.
We Shin Megami Tensei now!
Team Chaos all the way.
@westman98 Or Splatoon 3 could be set in a future where Order gets taken too far, and your character joins a rebellion against those dictating the lives of others?
How do I pick the neutral route?
And Marina is YHVH, I should have seen that coming, with all that people worshiping her.
@patbacknitro18
Post-apocalyptic future sounds cooler IMO
But in all seriousness, I'm fine with anything.
The third route is probably Mr. Grizz's side where he pulls all the strings.
Oh no! I'm going to be in Honolulu. -_____-
NERVOUS!? I'm not nervous that Splatfests are ending! Pffff! It's not like I have 1,020 hours In Splatoon 2. (guilty shifty eyes) Or, like its my favorite game!!? (heavy scared breathing)
Mann... I thought Splatoon 2 looked too much like a kids game. But my friend insisted that I try it. Over a year has passed, and I've gotten more miles out of this game than anything else. I (expletive) love Splatoon 2
I'm sure Splatoon 3 will end up as an anarchic Mad Max-esque apocalypse if Chaos wins, or a fascist cyberpunk-esque apocalypse if Order wins.
I am really unsure of which to pick this time around, as it’s pretty clear that the results of this Splatfest will determine what Splatoon 3’s main campaign will be like.
Personally I think Chaos winning would probably provide the most unique and interesting story, although Order could provide an interesting story too.
AGGHH it’s so hard to choose.
@Deku-Scrub
What's the deal with the last Splatfest results? Help me out. I'm ignorant. You think developers use the winning Splatfest team theme and develop the next splatoon plot based on the results? Is that what they did for Splatoon 2?
@Woomy_NNYes thats what they did with the first Splatoon
@Woomy_NNYes The results of Splatoon 1's final Splatfest played a major role in Splatoon 2's story. But while Splatoon 1 made us choose between the Squidsisters, this is making us choose between societal constructs. So it seems like the outcome here is going to play an even bigger role in Splatoon 3 than the end results of Splatoon 1's final splatfest.
Let There Be Chaos!
@Woomy_NNYes Yep, they did it with Splatoon 1 to determine what the campaign in Splatoon 2 would be like. And considering that they’re ending this one with a pretty big bang it’s fair to say that the winning team will determine what the campaign will be like, and to a much greater effect too since there is the whole chaos and order theming going on with this one as opposed to the original game which was simply Team Callie VS Team Marie.
Guys, Splatoon has ALWAYS been set in a post-apocalyptic future.
The scrolls from the first game spell out in pretty vivid detail how humanity’s actions raised sea levels to such a degree that they wiped themselves out, paving the way for new races of cephalopod based organisms to create a new world in their own achingly hip image.
There are literally human bones in the museums. How is that not post-apocalyptic?
Sad to hear the Splatfest is coming to an end, we knew it was coming. But I would like to know if there will be any new hairstyles for the Octolings. It's not fair that Octolings only get so few hairs styles compared to the Inklings. Give us more hairs for Octolings!!
Sad to hear, but I guess I should seen it coming.
Haven't played in months, but I will surely won't miss out this one!
Really Marina? Order? You’re better than that...
How typical that I will be traveling while this is ongoing. Oh well.
Causa ordo ab chao?
@Starcakes Like Yahweh? XD
They really need to support other games with similar online interaction, switch online is basically sold by competitive Mario Kart players and Splatoon players.
@Jayofmaya you forgot smash players.
Let order reign. Destroy the unruly anarchy that would see civilization ground to dust. Order and peace shall prevail.
Chaos! Ink for the Ink god! Hats for the Hat throne!
Going with order myself as I have bin on team Marina for all the splatfest in the game.
Still this likely mean were getting splatoon 3 either next year or 2021 then .
@Dirty0814 Considering I played online for the first time about a week ago I should have remembered that, but this morning is a coffee morning as last night was a conscious night. >:/
I really wish they would set up some sort of recycled splatfest thing to keep these going perpetually. Even though the servers stay on this still feels like they're just packing it in.
I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but next to Agent 4 and Callie is a Killer Wail, and Agent 3 and Cap’n Cuttlefish are sitting on a Hyperbomb.
Both were leaked to be usable in the final Fest beforehand, too, but I think we have confirmation here.
Chaos ofcourse
For some reason the thought that this will impact the next Splatoon is giving me big-time anxiety. I'm gonna support Marina like I always have, but damn this feels almost like an actual election.
Sounds like a fun theme for a Splatfest.
Shin Megami Tensei V at E3 confirmed? Seriously, most people probably forgot Switch had a proper SMT game coming since they were wanting Persona.
Already really looking forward to this Splatfest, it sounds really nice. I just wish all the Shifties wouldn't be locked to Private Battles after Splatfests do come to an end. I think it'd be nice if they added a proper 'Turf War (Splatfest Mode)' option to the list of playable modes in the lobby menu.
@patbacknitro So a post post apocalypse?
Team Pearl ftw!
Finally the final fest is coming!
Team Pearl
@Deku-Scrub @N1ntendodo @patbacknitro18
Oh, wow. That's interesting. I didn't get aWii U, so I completely missed out on Splatoon 1. Since Splatoon 2 is so amazing, I've been very jealous that I never got to play Splatoon 1. I hope there isn't a huge gap until a Splatoon sequel, or new content. Octo expansion was great, and the latter portion of it was epic.
About bloody time these boring Splatfests came to an end. Alert me when Marina wins. That's how these predictable games work nowdays anyway.
I haven't played Splatoon 2 since Nintendo started charging for online... But this might just get me to pay out for a months worth of access.
For me nothing beats the hype of the first Mayo vs Ketchup Splatfest, but i am really excited for this one!
#TeamOrder all the way!!!
@patbacknitro18 So if the majority of players vote for chaos then I'm guessing the next Splatoon game will have maps that aren't parallel anymore.
I'm sticking with order 😀.
The reason I got Splatoon 2 early was because I didn't want to miss out on the Splatfests. Will be a shame when they're gone, I'll miss the funky music but hope they'll add it to normal battles from time to time.
If y'all are having a hard time choosing... Marie seems to be on Team Order.
@Riderkicker
I dont understand why splatfest cant just go on indefinitely in an automated fashion.
team order for me at least the splatfest stages are coming back and shifty if only in private
Considering the rampant cheating and hacking in Splatoon 2 I'd say Team Chaos has already won.
I'm going to be unable to play since I will be on vacation without wifi
I'm really bummed Splatfests are coming to an end. I don't like the new system because you can't guarantee a team of your friends and you don't play randoms. From what I understand, it's just Private Turf War where you have to get all your friends and then the team composition is made randomly from that list of people. There's a reason I don't play private Turf War, it's just not fun. I prefer making a team of 4 with my closest friends and then taking the battle to randoms online. Nintendo is missing out on a great opportunity to keep Splatoon 2 going until a true successor is announced. Splatfests take little to no effort in producing. I would even be fine if they reduced the number to bi-monthly or even once a season and have it run for the 72-hour tournament like this final one is happening. At least then it makes it an event and gives people great justification for keeping Nintendo Switch Online memberships active. Nintendo really needs to stop prematurely crippling their games. The moment Splatfests stopped on the Wii U original, that game's online community died. The same will happen with Splatoon 2. Maybe not as fast as the Wii U version did but it will. Even though a real successor is years away & likely won't even be until the next console. That said, I'll be going Team Order because I like the gear for them more than Team Chaos.
@Arbor Same here, my nephew plays it a lot so he is really good in that game. I been meaning to get it myself because of the characters, but at this point, I'll just wait for the 3rd entry.
@Deku-Scrub @N1ntendodo @patbacknitro18
Hey guys, I started another Splatoon 2 profile recently and wonder how I'll ever be able to build up gear & farm ability chunks without Splatfest super sea snails? Without Splatfest snails, it's going to be impossible to do much of anything. Is there any precedent with Splatoon 1?
Sad to see these end. I don't play regularly but always come back in for the splatfests if i can. And unfortunately its tramlines that weekend, a local musival festival, so i doubt I'll get much chance to play.
@Woomy_NNYes Splatoon news feeds give away free Ability chunks.
@Woomy_NNYes Regarding Super Sea Snails: You can actually still get these outside of Splatfests in Splatoon 2, every time you level up from Level 30 and so on, you’ll earn 1 Super Sea Snail. These stack as well so you don’t have to worry about picking them up every time you level up.
Regarding Ability Chunks: These can mainly be obtained through Salmon Run, they are the green capsules you earn by playing the mode after you fill up your reward meter enough.
@N1ntendodo I'm going order because i prefer CONTROL order to total chaos but it will be fun trying to restore everything in splat 3
@Starcakes
5-min phonetoshop for you of the YHVH of ORDR
@patbacknitro18 I'm just relieved that this means that maybe the "Squids vs. Octopus" splatfest WON'T affect game 3.
