EA has revealed that FIFA 20 is coming to Switch, but not in the form fans will have been hoping for - and this could be the case moving forward on the console, too.
The company has just lifted the lid on this year's edition of its insanely popular football sim, and while the PS4, Xbox One and PC are getting the full-fat version – complete with a FIFA Street-style Volta Football mode – the Switch is getting a "Legacy Edition".
That means while FIFA 20 on Switch will benefit from updated rosters and kits, it will basically be the same game as FIFA 19 and will lack any new gameplay content, such as the aforementioned Volta mode. Last year's versions of FIFA 19 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 were Legacy Editions.
Those of you will long memories will recall that EA pulled the same trick on the Wii a while back.
Discussing the decision with Eurogamer, FIFA 20 executive producer Aaron McHardy said:
You're gonna get a fresh new look in Switch, with kits and player lists and all of that, but you're not going to be getting Volta or any of the big new features.
When quizzed on whether this is the end of feature parity for Switch players, McHardy added:
I wouldn't say it's the end [of parity], necessarily for Switch, we don't know what the future holds. We're always trying to build Switch to the device, and make it the best we can with the power that's on that device that was given to us, and I think that philosophy will stay true. Where it goes in the future, we don't know.
At the time of writing, it would seem some retailers - such as Game and Amazon - plan to sell the Switch version of FIFA 20 for around £10 less than its PS4 and Xbox One siblings in the UK.

Legacy Edition? More like, ''We couldn't be bothered to update anything beyond the manditory on this platform because we hate extra work'' edition.
EA taking the pi$$ out of the gaming public? Why am I not surprised?! 🤔
It isn’t as though the franchise isn’t selling on Switch, as it’s often in the top 30 selling games on the eShop charts. And as high as 2nd when on sale. And that’s not included physical copies!
And yet they have the nerve to still charge £54.99 for the two-year-old FIFA 18 on the eShop 🤑
And yet they'll charge just as much, if not more, for it
ouch owie oof my bones, what ever shall i do the soulless yearly ea sports game isn't getting new content oof oof OOF
Just wow, the one game they do release for the platform they now can't even be bothered to add more than a rooster update to..... So this will be just like what the 360 and PS3 had for the last few years.
!@#$ you, EA. To hell.
Just business as usual for EA. That's fine as I'll also continue on as usual by not buying their games.
....Just...why? It's a slap in the face to not try to do anything special with it. I'm sure the franchise is selling well enough on Switch, which is why they are bothering in some ways, but it's sad that they don't add any effort.
Um, guys....
Pitchfork and torches, everyone ?
I would describe my support for EA games as scaled back also.
You hear that FIFA fans? If you buy this years version your supporting corporate greed and laziness. DO NOT allow EA to take your money for something that is subpar “just because”.
So EA went from:
"FIFA 18 on Switch is its own version."
"We will base future games on the sales of FIFA 18"
"We will base future games on the demand for the Switch after one full year"
"We will base demand on how FIFA 19 sells"
"FIFA 19 is an updated game that runs better and is feature complete"
"It's not feature complete, sorry"
"We expect Switch to have sold X amount by the end of the year"
"FIFA 20 is FIFA 19 with up to date team listings."
If we EVER pretend EA gives a rats rear about Nintendo platforms again, we are delusional.
I miss sensible world of soccer, before rights for teams and player names - it had every team in the entire world! The couple of updates were cheap too. EA can't use this "update the teams only" model as they make more money by the appearance of a new game every year, even if its mostly not!
But without ea we wouldn't have any soccer. So what can you do. Wish nintendo would make a strikers.
This is looking bad for any potential NHL or Madden game coming to Switch. This is EA on Vita all over again.
Thought 18 was decent and 19 felt like a minor improvement but I'm not gonna buy it again if this is what we are getting. Back to getting PES on PS4. Do think Konami are missing a trick here, a good version of PES on Switch would likely sell as Nintendo fans have been shafted by EA so many times.
That's fine, because SURELY they will lower the price of the game and microtransactions to compensate for the lower quality content.
That's FIFA done on switch then. Let's hope konami release PES on switch
@sixrings
Without EA, there will be no The Sims games anymore.
Hopefully Animal Crossing Switch can cover that situation.
@WillQuan
I have always preferred PES over FIFA personally so would be happy for that to find it’s way onto the switch.
Shame. 18 was good and 19 a decent step forward. It had real potential. But now 20 is a waste of time I’ll stick with PES 19 on XBOX. It may have got left behind in terms of licensing but it plays a better game of football.
Most FIFA fans not playing the awful Switch version anyway. They had to fix-it or kill-it off.
Why I never put all my eggs in the Nintendo basket. Still, Super excited for FIFA Streets.
And No. Not going to play PES to prove some irrelevant point. EA does not care what the 3% of Switch sales do. Why they doing this in the first place.
EA officially “dreamcasting” the switch now then???
I won’t be getting FIFA on any platform. I have the EA access thing stacked on my Xbox for a few years where I got a super cheap deal. I’ll pass buying any of their games new.
Lazy bone idol greedy jokers than have a choke hold on sporting licenses and refuse to publish on a wildly successful platform
Now that's what I call unprecedented partnership!!!!
And to celebrate this, I will buy FIFA 20...when it costs 5 euros!!!
Ah, good ol' EA...even when the Nintendo system is a massive success, they still don't give a crap.
@Anti-Matter I would love to see The Sims on Switch. Oh well
I’m expecting to get more Switch related announcements at the Microsoft show than from EA Play.
It's a pity to see EA keep treating Nintendo like that, like they want to silence Nintendo gamers.
We won't be silenced
EA can't keep us quiet
Won't tremble when we want it
All we know is we won't go speechless
SPEECHLESS...!
Sweet. Just saved me $100 to spend on another non EA game.
Thanks EA!
It'd better not be $60.
DISCLAIMER SPEAK INBOUND
The core gameplay parameters such as player AI and opponent AI, gameplay/extra modes, overall game progession, commentary, pacing etc. are the same for this years version as last year's version.
Updated kits and rosters only.
@Turrican280 I find it odd that they're not trying to capitalise on this situation. They're losing out sales wise on the other platforms to FIFA. Throw everything into making a feature rich Nintendo PES and they could corner the market on Switch.
At least these games are optional. I feel like I'm being held hostage with NSO for one game a year. Last year I needed a subscription for splatoon 2. This year for mario maker 2. 2020 for splatoon 3. Vs my Xbox almost all my games use online properly. Ea sure is acting dumb but I can ignore them or buy their games heavily discounted.
I could see EA's icy support for the Wii U because, let's face it, most if not all third party developers eventually bailed on that system. But the Switch has sold 34 million units in just over two years. And as much as everyone loves to hate on EA (with good reason), they have some games that I feel would sell well on Switch, such as The Sims, Plants vs. Zombies, Peggle, etc. I was encouraged when they ported Unravel Two over. Why they don't bring those over is beyond me.
Makes sense if PS3 and XB360 is the same.
Some days I worry about the lack of EA games..
Until I remember that Road Rash, Desert Strike, TimeSplitters, Command and Conquer and all the other EA games that I once loved, haven't actually been around/any good for about 2 decades, now.
Ditto for CodeMasters..
Let me remind you that NBA 2K20 on Switch is going to be the same as NBA 2K20 on PS4/XBO with the expected downgrades in graphics/performance. Other than that, it's the same game.
Meanwhile, FIFA 20 on Switch is going to be a roster update of FIFA 19 on Switch, which was a slight improvement over FIFA 18 on Switch, which is essentially the same as FIFA 16 on PS4/XBO (the last FIFA game to not run on Frostbite) with downgraded graphics. In other words, FIFA 19 on Switch = FIFA 16 on PS4 🤨
I don't even bother with For a on Ps4 anymore. No innovation, just updated kits, same old garbage
EA is terrible. Enough said.
Oh look, a botched port, shocking. Oh wait, not it's not.
I would scale back my support of EA, but I already avoid such dross.
Can we just get Pro Evolution Soccer back? PLEASE!
@Turrican280 @kobashi100
I’d really like to see PES on Switch however I suspect it would be the sub-par PS3 version that we’d get instead of the modern versions which were a huge improvement.
@Agramonte
“ Not going to play PES to prove some irrelevant point”
I don’t think playing the better game is irrelevant. For a few years FIFA was superior but Konami got it together again this-gen and the 15, 17 and 19 iterations are far better than their FIFA equivalent (FIFA was better in 16 and both PS4 versions were poor in 18, the Switch version actually had the edge).
ok so FIFA 20 shouldn't be on switch, they should just update fifa 19 or if they want some bucks just put a paid dlc for fifa 19 called fifa 20 rooster update. If only konami could see the highway they have on switch and put PES on it. I bought fifa 18 when it was on sale. Almost bought fifa 19 on sale but thought let's wait to see what fifa 20 will be on switch, I don't regret it.
There’s a reason the only current EA stuff I buy is The Sims (19 years of addiction isn’t going away). Otherwise, I’ll stick with their stuff from the GC era.
Lol EA: Challenge Nothing
Well nintendo fans can't have their cake and eat it too. These are the results of making such a underpowered console. If you're not liking ea now you won't be liking any third party when the new systems drop and ports are simply no longer possible.
@electrolite77 They do not have a community to speak of. And playing FIFA with my Fam in Spain during the champions league finals - was priceless. They do not play PES.
Na man, there was a reason people were excited when they announced FIFA on Switch. No reason to now pretend it is not worth playing again.
PES is not a bad game. But you know what is better? Having access to Both.
And I thought EA was actually trying again with Nintendo platforms for once
Having bought 18 & 19, and really enjoyed both - I’m out. Absolutely not buying the same game again. Awful, anti-consumer move from EA.
And like the f**** dumb@$$ I am, I bought Fifa 18 back then to "support" 3rd party publishers on the Switch.🙄
I am a long time fifa player and bought both for switch. Wont be purchasing this.
The series has been downhill in general ever since ultimate transaction..i mean team took over. Theyve ignored career mode and other features for years. God awful company.
Ripping people off by trimming down and reusing content for a cheap buck, That's the EA I remember.
Honestly? This might be better anyway. Games like FIFA and CoD are basically just the same game every year. The former being a minor roster update. While the other platforms need to spend a whole extra 60 bucks again, Switch owners get an update. Easy.
I love how console after console, Nintendo fans act like it's literally anyone else's fault for gimped 3rd party support other than Nintendo. It's crazy how no other console maker has any issue with 3rd party support though. What a funny coincidence.
@JR150 pretty sure FIFA 20 is also going to be full price on switch. They aren't going to offer up an "update" to your copy of last year's game.
This surly could have been a free patch then for FIFA 19 owners? Awfully EA. Just watching Star Wars gameplay... Looks okay... Again this year EA doing nothing for me!
I just can't understand why anyone would buy this. I'd rather die than support a move like this.
2020 will be the death of third party on nintendo systems after xbox two and ps5 come out. Then nintendo fans will have to be happy with Wii remasters, Wii u ports, and some random switch new games. All along they will tell themselves it doesn't matter since they were going to buy a ps5 for third parties anyways.
Ea have been doing this for years for the underpowered systems. This is about as shocking a headline as Jeremy Corbyn disagreeing with something.
And the simpletons will buy it regardless, year after year after year, until the end of time.
Don't blame EA.
What the hell is wrong with these people? “It’s basically the same game everyone hated, was critically panned, and is frequently marked down fo $14.99 on the eshop.”
The people need to rise up. EA don’t deserve the license any more.
At least they’re being upfront about it, and not advertising elements that won’t make it to the game
@Agramonte
I have access to both. In terms of a game of football, the last version of PES was better. Not saying it will be this year but it was last year. FIFA has the glitz and glamour but it just doesn’t play right. It’s like the PS2 days all over again (except that on PS4 it’s a lot easier to add all the real kits and names than back then, when it was a case of buying Memory Cards off EBay 😂 )
3rd parties release lazy inferior ports on the switch and then complain about poor sales. Would love if Nintendo made a switch exclusive football sim to blow fifa out of the water
@nintyfanuk so you would like nintendo to spend it's resources not on a mario dk zelda game but instead on a soccer game. There was a much easier solution. Just build a system on par with the xbox one s.
Having just bought Fifa 19 for £14, I’ll be happy with that until next year.
It’s a shame that EA just don’t want to commit to the Switch but then maybe me waiting until the end of the season to get it is part of the problem.
@BANJO With merely said "rooster" update for 2020, one might even say they "cocked" it up 😎
Why don’t EA investors question their poor support of the platform?
I said that exactly this would happen months ago. It’s the end of FIFA on Switch, EA once more just ignoring Nintendo Switch footy fans. The sad thing is some are so desperate to play a footy game they will jus go out and buy FIFA even though the only difference will ever be the number at the end - 20, 21, 22, etc, etc. It’s just sheer laziness and contempt for Nintendo. I don’t know why Nintendo don’t just tell them to stop bothering at all.
Hopefully another company can bring something else football related to Switch, for now I’m sticking playing Active Soccer 19. Maybe one day sensi will return? Or even Pro Evo?
Rest in peace Switch FIFA -it’s game over.
Could they just not make games for nintendo at all?
@20thCenturyFrox They sure have, going forwards that will be it, just a rooster update. Actually I have a feeling we won't even get Fifa 2021 at all.... It will be no loss.
@BionicDodo
Absolutely. You see other companies taking advantage when a huge franchise doesn’t have a game on switch, like Overwatch with Paladins etc. So it baffles me too.
@electrolite77 Yeh true. I had a massive gap with PES. Last one I owned was PES 5 and then didn’t touch the series until 2017, when they got their mojo back.
Just enough effort to fleece unsuspecting casuals. That's my EA!
I don't really like football games but when I was a kid I enjoyed Fifa Street so much
So no Volta mode ? Lmao so I'll never get this
@electrolite77 and I can understand that. I didn't play the last PES, but remember the old versions Were fun. I play mostly FIFA now and so do most of the people I play with. The "social" part is what makes me want to play and get better (Same as in Madden). PES cant compete with that.
Not bashing PES. But Im also not going to bash FIFA or not play Sea Of Solitude or Fallen Order or keep wishing for Madden on Switch because of what happened to 1 version of FIFA on 1 platform called "Switch".
If PES has a decent Switch version. i'll play that also. Not a port of their iOS Mobile nonsense. That is as awful as FIFA was on Switch
I can't believe EA is doing this . Wait of course I can because it EA , and they love doing this to Nintendo gamers since the wii days
Good ol EA it's just business as usual
How tf does a sports game EA releases every year not getting a proper version on Switch? The game can't be that techy.
Just enough effort to sell a game as a microtransaction platform designed to fleece unsuspecting kids and casuals on the Nintendo platform.
That's the EA we all know and love. How exactly does this company remain relevant? Who are the people consciously giving them money? Casuals. Star wars casuals, sports casuals, scrubs that fell for their twitch fueled Apex marketing stunt, soccer mom's and toddlers playing their mobile vomit.
The funny thing is, it's not even real gamers buying their games. It's the unwashed ignorant masses.
@Indominus_B I have a nintendolife account because I love nintendo games. That said I prefer playing them docked and on my 4k screen. I am not really a fan of quirky nintendo and really if they went third party I would be perfectly happy. Then I'd only need to buy one system plus my nintendo games would look better. Somehow everyone thinks if nintendo doesn't make the system they will lose their minds and make crappy games. Considering nintendo copied and pasted the 360 controller with added motion control I am pretty sure they would adapt. I don't hate nintendo. I just really dislike the underpowered nintendo combined with the nintendo defenders and their "it's good enough" indifference.
Joke where is pes
EA doing something stupid, how surprising
Translated: end of support by EA. Switch was just not good enough for such games.
This seems just odd, the switch has higher lifetime sales then the xone, the lack of investment isn't a good long term strategy.
The only thing that would make me buy another game from EA would be a new Beetle Adventure Racing.
“E. A. Sports: It’s in the (other) game.”
That’s unfortunate, but it’s still gonna sell. Brand recognition, consumers that don’t know/care, and limited genre competition.
@HobbitGamer
EA is Everything Abysmal right now.
Let's just agree that EA doesn't like their games on Nintendo consoles because they know we aren't dumb enough to give them money for dumb stuff like loot boxes and this
I sold FIFA 19 because EA left out so many features, and I certainly won’t buy FIFA 20 on Switch given that they clearly don’t give a monkeys about supporting it properly any more. Vita all over again. I’m guessing they expected more sales and can’t justify any additional development costs.
@Indominus_B I was born in 1979. Proud owner of the original nes, snes, game boy, gameboy advance, gamecube, Wii, Wii u, switch, an original dk arcade cabinet, a mario arcade cabinet and I bought some healthy shares when the stocks were low. We can agree to disagree but I don't think you should have a nintendo Fandom competition with me. I had zelda bed sheets as a kid, mario wallpaper as a kid and as an adult I have much more subtle nintendo items throughout my house despite my wife thinking I'm insane. We have different views sure. But you asked why people have nintendo accounts as if we are all somehow trolls if we don't agree with everything nintendo. I'm ok with disagreeing but please don't question my loyalty to the company. Ps I wish I was a youngen. And thanks for the history lesson.
Yet when it doesn’t sell well they will say that the market isn’t there on the switch. What a joke.
To everyone bellyaching: how many of you bought FIFA 18 on Switch?
Also since we're calling people trolls: I've owned every Nintendo console until the dark years (2006-2016).
@Indominus_B IIRC GameCube came out a week after Xbox.
Oh, EA.
Laugh track
The answer is easy.
Do not support EA.
On any platform in any way.
I started that philosophy years ago and don't miss them.
They make nothing I can't live without.
My backlog is plenty big without them.
They pull this stuff because they hate Nintendo and its fans. They love making money off of them while doing nothing.
Don't put up with that!
Have some self-respect!
DO NOT BUY EA!
$uck EA. I don't think they'll ever properly support the Nintendo fanbase.
@Indominus_B I get some people like portable gaming. I don't care for it at all. My point is you can't expect proper third party support for your system when the companies will have to custom make the games for the system. In other words it maybe easy to be a nintendo defender here on a nintendo site and a ea hater but in this case it probably makes sense for ea. They have people much smarter than us making decisions and they are always a profitable company. again I get why some people like portable play, I don't, but then you are going to have to accept the limitations of the hardware... something I don't want to do because I never use the portable aspect.
As for your controller issue you have with me. Sure nintendo created the four button layout. Then they changed the button sizes around for both the 64 and gamecube controller. Anyways playstation introduced dual analogue sticks and xbox perfected the controller which both the switch and Wii u were clearly emulating.
You are correct my post wasn't entirely true. I forgot to mention I owned a r.o.b and a 64. But that's cool. You brought us off the beaten path.
I love nintendo. But there's a thin line between love and hate. When I see the power of my Xbox one x the switch frustrates me. It's cool it doesn't others. But don't be a hypocrite and wonder where all the third party's are then.
That's just fine, I haven't bought an EA game in years and I doubt that will change anytime soon.
It may not be much but I can vote with my wallet.
I'd be more upset about this if it wasn't EA. I haven't bought an EA game since Mass Effect 3 and with moves like this, the company are making it very easy for that to continue.
@Indominus_B Yes the diamond layout is from SNES. It makes sense as the PlayStation started off as the SNES cd add on.
Will Nintendo call EA out on this?
Yet people still buy ea games because they want sports games or star wars games. Similarly I still buy nintendo games despite my frustrations. People talk a big talk on the Internet but their wallets tell a different story. I'm not frustrated enough to give up my nintendo Fandom. I'm just hoping for a pro model. And ea is making money still because people simply lowered their expectations or learned how to manage loot boxes.
Meanwhile Mortal Kombat delivers the full game experience on Switch.
Nobody should this new FIFA game for Switch.
just want goverments to wise up ban the fifa lootboxes and watch ea close their door.
Loot boxes exist because games cost far more to develop yet people want games for the same price that they paid a decade or two ago. I hate them myself but I understand. You can blame the company but people wouldn't buy a $130 game.
@sixrings
There are plenty of games that sell incredibly well that dont have lootboxes i.e. most Nintendo games.
EA includes lootboxes in their games because they have popular licenses with extremely casual and uninformed fans that will get addicted to FIFA/Madden Ultimate Team and pay for life.
Incidentally, almost all EA games are released alongside $80/$100 Special editions. So the pretense that lootboxes prevent higher prices is false.
Honestly, I believe EA is only interested in games that can be permanently connected to the internet; how else would they be able to throw in-game adverts to their in-game shops without it? Gotta keep that recurrent user spending up. EA's games are but gateways into a way to spend more money, not that they're gonna reduce the "entry fee".
@sixrings If their games are to expensive, then they should get out of the industry because they're doing a crap job at it. Other studios today continue to make games with high production values yet not monetised up the uretha, and do just fine financially selling at the standard price. If developers are constantly developing a new engine or entirely new resources, models and everything from scratch then thats just poor development if they could have used assets from previous games. The majority of 3rd party publishers languish in established franchises with annual releases so it should be even easier for them to use the previous game as a framework and build up on it bringing development costs down.
Frankly EA could burn for all I care, their existence does more harm to the industry than good.
@Jayenkai THQ Nordic actually owns the rights to Timesplitters now.
Aalso known as "we're doing it because we're contractually obligated to do it."
There goes the slim chance for an NHL game to come to the Switch.
......oh no, the company that completely sucks balls is releasing a lazy retread to milk a few bucks out of willing idiots. I hope their stupid game doesn’t tank because it would be a shame to lose all of that awesome support.
*eye roll
These FIFA releases should just be DLC for the Switch version. I bought FIFA 18 but I wouldn't bother buying any future installments until they were actually different other than minor cosmetics and a different number on the box.
This isn't surprising considering that FIFA on the Switch isn't using Frostbite. All the new features and game modes things are created in Frostbite. They would have port the modes to the Ignite engine, an engine that isn't being used any more.
@sixrings the death of third party for Nintendo has been here. Sure the switch gets the occasional third party title. But even those are downgraded as hell, a lot of the times not day n date with the other consoles. This isn’t really new. The 3rd party support for the switch is just barely better than the Wii U it’s first 2 years. When ps5 and Xbox 2 come out, Nintendo even with its switch pro won’t be seeing any new third party games. Just ports from last gen,occasional first party game,and indies. Oh wait that’s the majority of the switch’s library right now.
@MsJubilee I can see nhl 13 possibly running fine on switch. Possibly
wish ea just disappear they been screwing the nintendo base for so long its make me sick reason why i havent bought any ea games for years.
@Mgene15 wat the hell are you talking about switch is getting plenty of 3rd party support rpg,fighting games,action adventures,and even shooters as well.
Licensed sports and wrestling games are now largely trash. That's a pity... those were previously a staple of gaming.
@Muddy_4_Ever wrestling games were awesome during the 64 days they need to be remastered for switch or something.
Dont buy EA games for PS4, Switch, XBOX one and PC at all. They screw up our money like Nintendo Switch FIFA 20 Legacy. I don't approved them.. They should do this game to be remastered or something. THUMB DOWN!
I say "F" EA and their tired worn out sports franchises. I stopped buying their crap a while back anyways but I thought I might get FiFA but they can stick it where the red card goes.
EA; Spread thin and wide. Im sure itll sell great, and almost certainly to no one commenting or even visiting this site. As long as the ROI is in the green, its good. Eventhough the game is probably going to be sub-par
@sixrings
Sorry, No N64 in your list so you are disqualified
😂😂😂 It will remain on the shelf of the shops.
who honestly cares about EA anymore? Just ignore them
I have defended the Switch versions of Fifa so far as they have been more fun and arcadey than the PS4 versions but this is a kick in the balls.
I won't be buying it at launch, I will wait for it to go on sale.
EA clearly aren’t bothered by making people happy... I wonder if they should change industry and become... hmm... lemme think... tax officers?
The one thing yearly by the numbers sports titles needed, even less new content and features.
So glad sport games are the one genre in the industry that I have always despised.
EA games=CAN"T challenge everything
@sixrings Give it a rest, that argument is a cheap, hollow and meaningless excuse given by trash publishers like Electronic farts.
Even with increased production values, game development is still significantly cheaper than movie production and also makes more money. Most of the costs are spent on marketing anyways.
Also, companies like EA and Activision are known for their blatant tax evasion and refunds. Not only not giving anything of value back to society, but also actively stealing from tax payers.
Stop spreading misinformation, in case the continued success of Nintendo and Sony's first party offerings somehow weren't clear indicators, games don't need gambling in order to be profitable.
@Agramonte
Oh yeah I’m not boycotting EA or anything. I’m certainly disappointed that they’re not going to push on with this version as I like a portable football game (going all the way to Super Kick Off on the Gamegear). I got hours out of FIFA on the Vita and they did the same to that, annoyingly.
But I understand if they can’t make enough money to justify the effort. And if this years FIFA on other formats is better than PES (as it constantly was on PS3) I’ll get it.
@Mgene15
“The 3rd party support for the switch is just barely better than the Wii U it’s first 2 years”
The phrase ‘barely better’ taking a real kicking, here. Has it changed meaning?
@Indominus_B
What do you think about The Sims games from EA?
Because i really like it especially The Sims 4.
@Turrican280
It was amazing how bad PES was during the PS3/360 years. The signs were there with 15, then 17 was brilliant. 19 is very good though I admit I only stumbled across it because it’s on Game Pass.
And with that EA “support “ is done.
@sixrings
“Somehow everyone thinks if nintendo doesn't make the system they will lose their minds and make crappy games. ”
Which platform holder in the history of gaming has gone third party and not at least dramatically deteriorated or blinked out of existence altogether?
@Indominus_B
I have The Sims 4 PS4 version.
The expansion packs and DLC stuffs are quite expensive.
1 Expansion pack is about $30 / $40, DLC stuff is about $10.
But there are some DLC packages for The Sims 4 with cheaper prices if combined
($50 for 1 Expansion Pack + 2 DLC stuffs).
I have watched the Sims 4 presentation from EA PLAY 2019 just now and.... No mentioning about The Sims 4 on Nintendo Switch. It was just about a new Expansion Pack : Island Living for PC, PS4 & Xbox One on July 2019.
At this rate, EA doesn't care with Nintendo gamers anymore after their intimate relationship with Nintendo during Gamecube, Wii & NDS era.... 😒
Bought 18 and 19. Enjoyed them both. But will pass on 20. Think I'll just hang on to 19 if they aren't putting any work in. Disappointing!
@electrolite77 #149 One of the best, if not THE best and matter of fact comments in this thread.
People that claim to be Nintendo fans but would still prefer for Nintendo games to be on other platforms, for the sole reason of being able to enjoy them in a prettier version, just don't understand Nintendo, don't get what makes them who they are or what differentiates Nintendo from the others, and most certainly aren't anywhere near anything that remotely resembles a true Nintendo fan.
@westman98 I don't know if it's comparable budget wise. Nintendo owns their own ips vs someone like ea having to buy the rights for either sports or movie franchises. Plus making games which are really graphics intensive takes much more artists and work to be done. I'm not sure but it wouldn't surprise me if other games cost more to produce.
@ThanosReXXX just because Sega failed at being third party doesn't mean nintendo would. Unless you're one of those people who love motion controls I don't get what the big loss is. Xbox or playstation doesn't force third parties to make any particular style game. It is completely up to the developer. Are Sony movies less impressive now that I consume them via netflix instead of a Blu ray drive?
I just bought FIFA 19 for $20 Canadian on the eShop. That's a really good version of the game. I'm good keeping this one as my soccer game....plus Hazard will still be on Chelsea lol.
I’ve been warning people that “EA cannot be trusted.”
@sixrings
“Unless you're one of those people who love motion controls I don't get what the big loss is.”
There would likely be no dedicated handhelds on the market, which I’ve always preferred handhelds over consoles (and I’d love to see Sony make a dedicated handheld once again)
@Galarian_Lassie I guess portability is a thing for some. Not a thing for me. But I get it.
@sixrings Well, as someone who has seen and lived through almost the entire cycle of ALL console generations (born in 1970), I can honestly say that I've never encountered ANY piece of hardware that was able to equal or better the experience and sensation that Nintendo hardware always gives me.
Even as an almost 50 year old man, new Nintendo hardware still plasters a big old smile on my face, every time I use it for the first time, and it also brings out my inner child, almost making me feel giddy. It's something intangible, often referred to as "The Nintendo Difference".
I also own other consoles. I'm also a Sega fan, and still a proud owner of a nearly mint condition Sega Dreamcast, and I have an Xbox 360 and and Xbox One S, but I still wouldn't want Nintendo games to be on there, because the experience would be totally different, also because Nintendo uses the "top down pyramid" model, to design hardware around the games, and not having that factor, would be a MASSIVE disadvantage to the experience of Nintendo games as a whole.
That is also what I hinted at when I mentioned understanding what makes them who they are or what differentiates Nintendo from the others.
I'm not a huge fan of motion controls, although I do appreciate games in which it is incorporated in a way that makes sense or adds something to the experience, but it is Nintendo games AND Nintendo hardware as a whole, that makes the experience complete for me, and many others.
And I'm not talking about the power perspective, but the way it offers different ways to play, new ideas and so on. And of course, the Switch obviously falls behind in the power department, and even I would have wanted the NX to be this all powerful Nintendo version of the Xbox One or PS4, but on the other hand, all of us Nintendo fans should have known by now that this was simply never going to be the case.
And of course, in the case of the Switch, that isn't even possible, technically speaking, or for a consumer-friendly price point...
And besides, they already tried the "just as powerful" route with the GameCube, and it didn't work out for them. And no, that wasn't just because of them using small DVD's, contrary to popular belief.
So, Nintendo will sail it's own course, offering unique experiences along the way. Unique and complete experiences, that you simply can't get on any other platform, so simply putting their games on other platforms, subsequently creating a disconnect in what is essentially a complete experience, that all belongs in the package that it's in, would only be to the detriment of the games and the experience itself.
And no offense, but people that don't understand this, aren't real Nintendo fans in my honest opinion.
I’ve been saying it for years.. Nintendo should buddy up with Konami to create an exclusive Winning Eleven Switch Edition.
@ecco6t9 i never even trusted EA with their dam greed with lootbox crap and rushing their games out too.
@sixrings
I am 100% positive FIFA, Madden, and EA's other sports franchises are nowhere near as expensive to make as many of Nintendo's biggest games, especially considering that those games are largely incremental upgrades over previous entries.
@ThanosReXXX I'm really box agnostic. I have become a person who is mostly concerned with the content. Again if you're into the gimmicky side of nintendo or the portable side I can understand your view. But as someone who plays exclusively with a pro controller docked the actual system box means nothing to me. In fact now that I can turn the system on without even touching the box it means significantly less to me. The only thing a nintendo box generally wins in is its reliability. But my switch case has cracked despite being docked 99% of the time and my left joy con drifts.
@ThanosReXXX I'll try to let my mario stuffy down tonight when I tell him I've failed him as a real nintendo fan. Thanks for ruining my father's day.
good news nintendo is going to announce the next fighter for smash bros ultimate dlc cant wait.
@sixrings First off, I already explained that I'm not specifically into gimmicks such as motion controls, and to add to that, I'm also not particularly into using the Switch as a handheld, so all of those points can go right out of the window...
And I already gathered you not caring about the box from your previous comments. For what it's worth: I was just expressing my own opinion, even though it's a rather strong one, seeing as I think we choose a brand for a certain reason, and subsequently, must at the very least get to know them and their philosophy, and as such, never create or have unrealistic expectations about them.
But regardless of my own opinion, the whole part about Nintendo games only maximizing their potential on their own hardware is simply an undeniable fact, due to the aforementioned method of how these games, and the hardware are being developed. That also supersedes and/or negates any personal preference concerning wanting to use the Switch solely as a home console or a handheld. That's a personal choice, that should not be counted as a negative towards Nintendo, or the concept of the Switch as a whole. They offer you all options. That you prefer to only use part of them, does not in any way make Nintendo accountable for offering you an "inferior" experience.
Can’t even remember the last EA game that I bought... looks like that streak will continue. Don’t worry, I won’t waste any time caring about that. Just like they couldn’t care less about developing their games for the Switch, or half assing the ones that do find their way on it, I will also not care to give them any money.
@janpampoen Pretty harsh, but I tend to agree to some capacity.
This kind of thing is why I never buy ANY EA games.
EA still a thing??
FIFA 20 Legacy Edition will apparently be $/€50.
The price should be lower TBH, but EA is gonna EA.
@RiasGremory
Forgive me ! 🙏
I cannot resist for The Sims 4 PS4 version from EA. 😣
Even though i have to pay more for their Expansion Packs and DLC stuffs.
I have fallen in love with The Sims games.
I don't understand this company, they complain about sales on Nintendo platforms but they only offer quick gimped versions for the same price. They also say we can't make anything because the userbase is small, well the Stadia has no userbase yet and they are making for that!
at this point unless they make a B.O.B. and General Chaos sequel, I'm done with them!
@MasterHiggins stadia will be huge o.o
All joking aside Stadia is a PC running the game, so they aren’t really porting a new version over. And it’s not even a previous gen vs current gen issue. As I understand (which I could be wrong)their internal engine and Switch don’t work together, and they aren’t inclined to try anything else. For the most part the games they have brought over either use a different engine or are heavily modified. If FIFA was built in Unreal 4, I believe it would be a different story. Or at least more of an effort to try, but when your base isn’t compatible...
It’s unfortunate, but the reality of EA.
@LuciferOnReddit That's gonna be a heavy task, especially in Europe.
@sixrings Look what happened to Sega, sixrings. They're a total shadow of their former selves.
Let's not have Nintendo do the same thing.
@Trajan The Wii, 3DS and Wii U had plenty of fantastic games. "Dark years" my balls.
Wow... already?
Extremely poor form from EA. I even bought the Champions Edition last year to support the Switch releases.
I bought the last two games on day one (at close to full price) but I will wait for "FIFA 20" to drop to about a third of its full price if this is the sort of BS they're going to pull on a current and very popular platform.
They could at least add in a Switch exclusive mode (such as the Mii mode/s from the Wii era) if they aren't going to give us parity with the other releases. Hell, establishing a point of difference between the Switch and the other versions (aside from portability) may encourage others to double-dip.
I would understand that EA would pull this in, say, five years, when the Switch successor is released and the market share for the Switch has dropped considerably, but this is a bizarre WTF decision, even by EA's almost nonexistent standards.
@electrolite77
I think I briefly played one of the PS3 a long time ago and after the reviews decided to give it a miss until 17. Were they really that bad?
Ever since the halfway through the lives of Xbox 360 and PS3 I haven't even bothered with EA Games. The only EA Games I play nowadays are games from my childhood like Harry Potter, SSX, James Bond games and NFS Underground on my Gamecube.
Only play this on ps4 for graphics and gameplay.. switch is for fun on the go.
@sixrings without EA there would be Pro Evo and there would be a gap in the market which I’m sure another dev/publisher would fill pretty quickly.
@hihelloitsme Vita had same issue, Dreamcast had same issues, the list actually goes on.... you are merely looking at Xbox vs Sony and that there isn’t a third party issue with PlayStation and Xbox which is true... but devs and publishers have been scared of anything different or complicated for years... Nintendo isn’t the problem... switch has robust third party support... it’s EA the main one refusing to play.... no body expects the lastest Assassins creed or rockstar game... this is a portable console.... EA could easily make sports titles that work... they did it on PSP.
Then don't complain when people stop buying your games.
@Turrican280
Yeah very poor. It was an amazing drop off after the brilliance of PES5. Don’t know what happened, they just seemed unable to transfer across the ebb and flow of a real game that PES was so good at. The Wii and 3DS games held together better.
FIFA really got their act together at that time after the PS2-era FIFAs were (IMO) awful and we’re far better.
You jumped back into PES at the right point with 17.
Wow were getting Fifa for 50 bucks then. Well you can take that game ,aand shove it where the sun does not shine as I'm not paying that for a roster update.
Please make something like mario strikers or just nintendo football or American football with the rosters for each team made of nintendo franchises. As if ea wants to throw away money then let someone else make it
Does not have to be nintendo as a good annually or game with yearly dlc like inuzuma elven can fill that football need
@Knuckles-Fajita this is also shows the whole stick of "support the companies" doesn't work when it comes to multibillion corps.
I certainly hope lootboxes like FIFA Ultimate Team do get banned worldwide. Maybe EA wouldn't get away with such complacency.
They were already pretty dubious but its like they entirely stopped caring the moment they got that golden goose.
While I'm not into Fifa personally I do get the rage. But seriously what was anyone expecting? It's EA. Sales for a soccer games are lowest on switch, out of all platforms. All the dudes have PS4s and Xboners. That said I despise EA in anything they do and this doesn't come as a surprise really.
@NinChocolate
Because they only see the money EA is making over all the games it release a year. When they should be asking for info on how much money ea is making on each platform ,and then notice the fact their missing iut on that sweet switch money
@Scollurio
I hear you but this game should not cost 50 euros then.
Ps
Going with that amount since the article mention that uk the game cost 10 pounds less then on other platforms. I figure they do the same in other countries
@flapjack-ashley
Think they hate money. Still agree with you that ea has a lot of games that could sell like crazy if they just brought them to switch
@Stocksy
You got a point but we are getting some big 3rd party franchises. Sure they won't run the same way as on xbox1 or ps4. Just look at mk success in april on the switch
I am at a loss of words here, there are now several companies out there that show a healthy interest and capability to bring a non-watered (non-legacy) down experience to the Switch; the latest examples are Mortal Kombat 11 and the upcoming Doom Eternal.
A nice The Sims game in the vein of the Gamecube ones (The Sims Bustin' Out was the best of the bunch!) would be awesome. But those days are long gone. I still have my Wii to play Gamecube games and I still have copies of The Sims, The Sims Busin' Out, and The Urbz: Sims in the City for it (I never got The Sims 2 and The Sims 2: Pets for the Gamecube) but I did get The Sims 2: Pets for Wii (but with that rushed port the series already went downwill). The MySims series was a mediocre borefest, the DS games were miserable, and The Sims 4's microtransactions took out any life that was left.
I don't usually care about FIFA, but I know many of you do. EA's showing their incompetency as usual. I feel sorry for those of you who still buy their garbage.
As a Fifa fan I'm really dissapointed with this news. I hope that Konami brings Pes 2020 to switch because I'm really not buying fifa again. I hope that EA doesn't mess up Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order as it is the only good game they have left.
Sadly though this news is not a surprise. EA holds Nintendo with contempt and FIFA on Switch makes up 3% of their sales so as far as EA are concerned they won’t put any effort into it.
FIFA 18 was decent, 19 was pretty much the same game with a couple of tweaks but now that’s it. The player names will change and kits but other than that FIFA 19 will just get re packaged again and again. There will also be people stupid enough to buy the game which doesn’t help because as long as they do, EA will see that as the green light to continue taking the pi33!
It’s fully understandable that 360 and PS3 gets legacy editions because they ARE legacy consoles - Nintendo Switch is NOT a legacy console.
EA have become more and more lazy with their development and programming of games in recent years. Even FIFA on PS4 and X Box One isn’t actually that different nowadays, FIFA 19 on PS4 which I have played a lot with my nephew is okay but it’s a lazy piece of programming. EA have got to a point with the franchise now where they know it is simply a cash cow. They aren’t going to pay loads of developers to focus on a game they know will sell as soon it is released. Certain footy fans will just sit waiting for 20, then 22 etc etc and buy it before thinking. It’s easy money.
The best thing to happen would be for the franchise to be taken away from EA altogether. Let it be freshened up. Let all console owners have the chance to play a freshened up game with all of the game modes. Can Switch handle FIFA? Yes. Could it handle the new Volta game mode - basically FIFA street- of course it can. We know the graphics will dip slightly compared to its older brothers but a high quality conversion is not hard to do. Panic Button can do it and they don’t have the revenue streams of EA.
It’s a bit like the adage that the rich get richer - it’s a case with EA that they just churn out less and less quality and more and more repetitive licences without showing any real care or attention to the franchise or the quality of the games. And those buying the games year on year are as guilty as anyone of causing the problem.
Quite simply EA stopped caring about development a long time ago - look at the job losses in the last 18 months. Why pay people to make games when people out there are daft enough to buy them regardless of the quality?
EA and lacklustre quality games now go hand in hand and in reality that has been the case with FIFA on all formats for the last three or four years.
My God. I don't even like football/soccer and this outrages me! They are charging full price for nothing more than player rosters!
And when it sells poorly on Switch, EA will say it is because Switch owners don't like sports games!
EA is scum. Absolute scum. This is beyond insulting!
Guys, get some spirits from Jasmine (Aladdin 2019 movie).
We won't be silenced.
EA cannot make us as Nintendo gamers being speechless.
@Dog To me they were. They lost their way and attempted to sell to soccer moms and geriatrics.
But that generation in general is pretty meh. Especially after how awesome the 6th gen was.
@Anti-Matter what are you talking about? No one is being silenced. EA just doesn't want to port things to unique hardware for minimal sales.
@electrolite77 so neo geo, Sega, and atari went third party. I watched a death of atari documentary long ago and it was anything but because they went third party. Arrogance and their et games were the death nail. The company had already lost its way. I had a dreamcast and liked segas games. But mainly I liked segas arcade games. Then arcades went the way of the dodo so I wouldn't say that segas downfall was from going third party. They struggled with the Saturn, the 32x, and the dreamcast. The games they put out on the xbox were quite good but again I more or less thought of Sega as a arcade company. Their games rivaled Namco more than nintendo to me. Yes they had sonic which I guess compares to mario but really it was vf vs tekken, house of the dead vs time crisis, Daytona vs ridge racer. Namco who has always been third party hasn't done exactly steller. Then we have neo geo another company which was part of the arcade Era. Arcades died and so did neo geo. All three companies had reasons they failed other than because they went third party. Concluding that the reasons these companies failed is exclusively because they went third party is overly simplistic.
@datamonkey why does fifa need to go away for pes to enter. If pes is sooooo good and people hate ea the way sooo many here are indicating wouldn't pes naturally sell much more copies for those reasons. Maybe everything isn't the third parties fault. Maybe nintendo has made a underpowered system, making it a pain to develop for, combined with nintendo fans who don't buy as many third party games as other platform holders.
@jarvismp panics button can't port every game.
@Heavyarms55 just vote with your wallet then and don't buy it.
@sixrings we heard you the first time and we get it, your a Sony fanboy.
@sixrings
What they mean is that EA is leaving the market right open on the switch. So if Konami wants to step up with a PES for the switch they could dominate that market
@Linnybhoy I owned a original playstation. It broke. I'm not really the biggest fan of single player games. I'm a nintendo fan. But just because I'm a nintendo fan doesn't mean I think the company is perfect and demonize every other company. That isn't Fandom. That's cult worship.
@Arnold-Kage I'm ok with that. In general I want as many options as possible. There are some here who wish ea would just not publish for the system and are happy games like Activision call of duty aren't here. For people who have no interest in these games they sure sound like they care quite a bit.
@BANJO It does suck but I was also having a little word-based joke with you. The word you're looking for is "roster" so the main point of my message was to make a "rooster" "cocked up" pun 😀
@sixrings the switch isn’t as underpowered as you might think.... and the new consoles wouldn’t change much in the first 2-3 years of their release
Fifa 19 could run perfectly fine on the switch and even on the last gen consoles, EA just doesn’t bother to port it In a good way
It is a matter of sales prediction and dedication, nothing more, if they wanted to give us the full experience, they could have done that
@Arnold-Kage They aren't though. EA know the audience want authenticity(hence why they'd even make the legacy editions) which have they due to the FIFA licensing for all the teams/players. It's practically a monopoly on football games.
PES legitimately couldn't take the marketshare even if Konami put all of their developers on it to make the best football game of all time and EA did the FIFA legacy edition strategy on PS4/Xbox1/PC and just updated the roster as a new game.
@20thCenturyFrox haha, Sorry I only quickly saw the response. You have to laugh..... I might actually get Fifa 2020 when its cheap as I got 2018 and it will at least have the 2019 changes with the roster update.
@Tantani I'm sure they could. But they weighed the cost vs benefit ratio and figured it wasn't worth it. It's greedy but it's their decision just as its ours if we want to purchase it. Don't kid yourself though the more powerful xbox and playstation games get the harder and harder it will be to continue to port games.
I'd just like to say that when nintendo makes a business decision good for themyet anti consumer there are many here defending nintendo and explaining how profitable they are. Ea is profitable yet no one defends them. On the other hand nintendo ports games such as dk tropical freeze, mario kart 8, new super Mario Bros u at full price and I'm sure the same people who are crucifying ea supported nintendo. That to me is bizarre and not Fandom.
@sixrings I know games will become bigger and bigger, but no one will want to leave the PS4 fan base back for a 2-3 years after the ps5 will come out, and the switch install base will become big enough by than that no one will want to leave them behind as well, developers goes to the install base, not the power, anyway, If EA would have port the game in a decent way, it would have sale a lot on switch, but for some reason they decided it isn’t beneficial enough
When Nintendo Port games from the Wii U kind of a different, not porting this games will mean that those games will die out while not many people even got the chance to play them, and any game company is doing it.... the price point is a different story through....
"If you're not buying it and begging for more with your money ready, we're not making it. We won't even show the decency of patching our unfinished, rushed, incomplete products, if you're not happily paying premium prices for unfinished, rushed, and incomplete products. We'll just sack all employees that couldn't work under ever growing pressure." - modern AAA game publishers
It used to at least FEEL more like "Here's what we made, a finished product that we're proud of, please support us by buying it for this price, with all of the content available, so we can keep making more". Not with EA, but a large part of "triple A" studio's.
The last EA (published) game I bought must 've been Timesplitters Future Perfect on Gamecube. And that EA logo made me feel uneasy about it instead of encouraging trust in the game. Luckily, TFP was a perfect, timeless masterpiece, very future proof. What's in a name? Sadly, today's market just doesn't allow for a proper sequel. A complete game, with tons of extra's and unlockables, split-screen co-op, love and care,... Nothing here spells "money tree", and longtime fans would be furious if it got adapted to modern standards (like, say, if TFP were to go "FTP")
@Tantani nintendo fans made fun of all the playstation xbox porting early in the generation and now we're doing the exact same thing at full price costs. I'm not ok with that. As for leaving the ps4 and xbox one generation behind. We don't know what's going to happen. They might only be able to appease the pro and x owners. Who knows. Either way when new systems come out old systems quickly are not supported.
Personally, I'm embracing EA's 'Legacy' approach. I'm only playing their games on the Mega Drive.
@sixrings but Nintendo is never going to get involved in a technological arms race, they have stated that many times. I use my Nintendo for different things than playing high end graphics/power hungry titles.
Bought both 18 and 19, but without the new mode 20 is not gonna be worth a cent to me Wish they just made a new Fifa Street game instead.
guys im disappointed in you guys, we all should have bought 3 copies of FIFA 18 and 19 so exactly this wouldn't happen
@Dr_Lugae
Not to sure to be honest. People will not pay 50 bucks for a game that not worth 50 bucks. So if someone makes an good rival for Fifa , but with better features then Fifa for switch then you got a goldmine their.
@sixrings I don’t disagree, was just answering to your comment “But without ea we wouldn't have any soccer. So what can you do. Wish nintendo would make a strikers.”
@sixrings
Actually people would be just as upset with actionvision if they did what EA did. The difference between the two is that one studio just admitted that it would just cost to much , and not worth their time to make a game while the other tries to trick you out of your hard earn money
@SKTTR
Loved the Sims Bustin Out! Feel like the Switch could use a Sims like you said in it’s vein.
@electrolite77
You reminded me just how bad the PS2 era FIFA’s were!
I’m tempted to get another PES, mainly for the master league mode. The online Game was quite frustrating in the end for me.
Only EA game I play is The Sims. On PC. Looks like that won't be changing (not that I thought it would). I would buy The Sims 4 on the Switch though, but EA can't be bothered even porting that.
If Konami sells PES on the Switch, it'll do very well because of what EA are doing.
Konami needs to take advantage.
@Arnold-Kage sorry I meant to indicate that people here like to make fun of ea and it's repetitive formula as much as they like to pretend nintendo is better off without activision and it's repetitive call of duty formula. Ultimately I believe in choice. A choice to buy games with loot boxes or repetitive formulas. If you don't want to buy them fine. But I don't get the whole ea or activision sucks lynch mob we find in these kinds of forums if you really don't care. Instead I'd argue that the reason people are so angry is because they wish they could have more choice and proper ports.
@Linnybhoy people here act like nintendo has always taken the perspective of producing the least powerful hardware. The nes was more powerful than the master system. The snes more powerful than the genesis. The N64 more powerful than the ps or Saturn. The gamecube more powerful than the xbox or ps2. More than Half of nintendo hardware has been more powerful while less than half (Wii, Wii u, switch) has been less powerful. I don't trust companies what they say. They are about making money and controlling story lines.
Imagine you are in the business of making games and every year there are awards for recognition within that industry where all your peers and consumers choose who made the best game.
Imagine if one of your biggest rivals in this regards is also a company you are expected to make games for.
In the long run one of those aspects of your relationship with said company isn't tenable and its likely going to be the "creating games" aspect.
This also applies to every other major 3rd party developer.
Sure you want money but sometimes industry recognition is just as important and your biggest rival here is Nintendo.
@Razer
Did not work that great for Konami on the Wii years. The PES games for Wii were the best reviewed games in the genre (not only compared with FIFA Wii, but also better than the respective PES on ps3 and 360) and yet they still sold far less than PES on the HD systems, and far, incredibly far less than Fifa.
@Razer they want to make money. I'd like to think winning is the primary focus of every professional athlete. But guess what it's not for most. I see actors mailing it in late in their careers just for gigs they should have too much dignity for. Money is the motivator. Not everyone needs to be number one. As long as they make money that's what's important. Being good enough. Hey I'd say that represents nintendo as well. This system is good enough tech wise to sell.
@Yomerodes but the Wii wasn't anything like the Switch, the Wii was for casual gamers and old people. Lets be real, the demographic on the Wii were never going to be into football games. Anyone who genuinely thinks the Wii appealed to actual gamers are simply just wrong. The DS was were Nintendo's real gaming experience was during that era, the Wii was a short lived fad.
It stands to reason that the player base wasn't there for Konami to appeal to.
It wouldn't be the case now.
@sixrings Oh trust me, I have no intention of buying it. But that doesn't fix things. EA takes it as "Switch owners don't like these kind of games". EA is completely unwilling to consider they made a bad product, if something doesn't sell, it's the consumers' fault from their point of view.
@Heavyarms55 if people stop buying their games they will go out of business or change their practices. Good luck getting everyone to boycott a company who has a sports and star wars monopoly.
@sixrings so by your logic, and it is logical, EA should develop games for the Switch, i mean they like money and tech wise we know the Switch is good enough.
Expect that is not whats happening...
I too would like to believe that companies are not petty but they are, there are a lot in the industry who would rather make less money just to spite a company.
Do you know why Rockstar will not make a GTA game for Nintendo? Read up on what Rockstar had to do to get Chinatown stories on the DS and you'll know.
GTA 5 and a port of Red Dead 1 would sell very well on the Switch, but there is a very petty reason why it'll never happen and it has nothing to do with "the demographic isn't there".
@sixrings Disney have been considering taking star wars away from EA for a while now.
The contract there has long been in contention since Disney acquired Lucas arts
EA's coders are so incompetent, lol. It's not hard to make these games just as good on the Switch. This is what happens when you're a bad developer and rely on hardware bloat to compensate for poor code.
I wish Nintendo would just take EA's ability to publish titles on the switch away. They are doing nothing for the switch besides pushing soccer fans to buy other versions of FIFA on rival consoles. It makes no sense and now they are talking about the future of FIFA on switch? Kinda ridiculous.
Look.
I have a switch, had it since launch day, and I love it. BUT - there’s zero pointing in hating on EA.
I also have an Xbox One X and the difference is obvious. I mainly use my switch for first party gaming classics and retro collections. And how long is it since I’ve had a first party gaming classic that wasn’t simply a remaster of a wii u game that I already owned?
Controversial? Yes. True? Yes.
Don’t blame EA. If they could release the full version of the game and make a profit they would. They clearly can’t due to hardware restrictions of some sort so maybe look at Nintendo a bit?
My perception (and I may be wrong) is that Nintendo are coasting. The switch is a great concept and works really really well and they’ve realised they are in a position where they can coast and still make money.
So they are.
When you can re-release a Wii U game and make a stack of cash, or licence an independent game at a profit why bother to make your hardware more attractive to the triple a big hitters?
@sixrings
You got a point their. Still think we shoild get more 3rd party if possible but I have a dislike for yesrly stuff like fifa ,cod and the likes
@norwichred It's very valid to hate on EA because this isn't a matter of the Switch being underpowered.
EA's developers are very bad at their job. They RELY on the bloated hardware of the PS4 and X1 to make up for that.
Any developer with the slightest real world experience knows this. That's why they have such poor developers - real ones don't want to go there.
@norwichred There is hardware restrictions for sure, but if companies can port scaled down versions of say Doom or wolfenstein, then EA has no excuse. FIFA is just not as demanding as those games I mentioned. It would be as if the people porting doom would have ported it but said they could only get the first level of the game and you would only get one weapon and one enemy type. Then they release Doom:Eternal and release the previous version of doom they had released, only this time the skin on the gun and the one enemy reflects the newest version of said game.
I'm all for blaming Nintendo and its cheapness when it comes to releasing powerful hardware. Just dont defend EA's crappy actions. In essence they are trying to make money by just changing text and stats to players on this version. They are doing as little as possible and they will make money off of each game sold because I'm sure it cost them very little to do what they are doing for this "legacy edition".
It's not just on Nintendo platforms either. The "legacy edition" found on last gen consoles is the same thing. EA wasting as little money in development in order to maximize its profit from sales.
In the end they are a company and need to make money but being downright disrespectful and insulting your consumers intelligence by trying to sell them the same game two or three years in a row is just plain wrong.
I see your Wii u point too, but it's an understatement to say that most of those Wii U games never really reached too many people. That system sold like crap and most people besides hardcore Nintendo fans had a hard time even understanding what the hell the Wii u was. So, yeah it is crappy on Nintendos part to keep porting old Wii U games to the switch but I'm gonna say most of the games being ported are of higher quality and with added features from previous versions. They are not just rereleasing the same game and expecting everyone to buy it. I've yet to buy any port of any game that I already own on the Wii U but I am very happy that others get to experience these games as most were pretty awesome and deserve to be played by as many as possible.
Sorry for the giant reply
I just think there are some companies which don't want to scale down their games. They might think that their games wouldn't sell anyways so the hastle isn't worth it. Others think that their games are like art and they refuse to dumb their graphics down. Ultimately I want more games. I can't force these companies to make them. And if I don't like a companies practices I simply don't buy them. And yes there is a huge gap between a Xbox one x and a switch.
@sixrings gamecube was more powerful than ps but not xbox. That was the last time they tried to have a really powerful system. Dont spread lies,lol.
@Yosher if they were to release it with that title I might consider picking it up out of sheer respect for their honesty..... used and when it went on sale
@whanvee Haha. To be honest, same here probably. No more than 5 bucks though.
@Anti-Matter I've only gotten as far to Sims 2, and the only thing that they added then was an immortality formula, and cut-scenes for "love" moments, that's it. I play it for a full day, then I didn't bother anymore.
I know what's on the future for them: TOTAL OBLIVION. No Switch user should bother getting their games.
FIFA 18 and 19 on the Switch didn't have parity in the first place
@sixrings The Sega Master System is slightly more powerful than the NES with the SMS most notably being able to display more colors. (The SMS came out roughly two years after the Famicom in Japan)
@Razer just so you know. Red dead 1 is lost forever. The code is gone so it could never get released ever again.
@sixrings
The simplistic thing is not understanding what going third party means.
1) Revenue stream from hardware sales gone
2) Revenue stream from peripheral sales gone
3) Revenue stream from third-Party licensing fees gone
4) Need to pay licensing fees to platform holder
5) Increased difficulty and cost of games development
6) Staff laid off/repurposed. Change in departmental relationships.
7) Total change in Company culture
8) Total rethink of what franchises are viable with a less clear audience and different competition
If a company goes software only they are immediately a very different company. It’s nice to think ‘oh if Nintendo go third party I’ll get all their games’ but it won’t work like that. There is absolutely no good reason for them to do so.
@Razer mmm I wouldn't be so quick to say PES would do very well on switch.
It would sell more then the Xbox version yes but the series is selling less numbers on PS4 year on year. I think a switch version would do solid numbers just like the PS4. Nothing spectacular but would move units
The other issue though is that when EA do release FIFA on Nintendo systems hardly anyone buys it.
If they are going to do things like this, Nintendo should hurry up and make a new Mario Strikers
@whanvee that's debatable but at the very least gamecube was comparable to xbox and more powerful than the playstation. That is a significant difference than making system after system a generation behind tech wise.
@electrolite77 going third party wasn't the reason those companies failed. Also research and development isn't exactly as easy as you are making out to be. So they could use that time and money to make the games. This idea that Sega failed because they don't make their own systems is laughable. Sega was well on their way out by their own doing.
Ah, the familiar, yearly twinge of fury for EA being the laziest, greediest third party and then the relief of remembrance of f😝ck EA, I don't buy their games any more.
EA = The biggest laziest milk cow ever in the gaming industry.
@sixrings
There’s a big long list of reasons there why it’s a bad idea. There’s history that shows it’s a bad idea-not one example of a platform holder improving either in terms of the quality of their output or their finances. There’s the basic logic that profitable, successful companies don’t just randomly abandon successful strategies because of a few people on the Internet not getting exactly what they want (this also applies to them making a power focussed System to compete with Sony and MS).
Set against that in ‘reasons why they should’ we’ve got you going ‘well....I want them too’.
EA just needs to stop. If you aren't going to commit to putting out quality titles on Switch then DON'T. This is literally the WORST way to "support" a platform and its userbase. Put out less and less effort and give a lousy "who knows who cares" statement about future support. Total PR disaster EA has been on Switch. Cant wait till this company is dead and buried.
@electrolite77 I didn't say they should go third party to make me happy. It would but I'm good enough with the way things are. On the other hand it sure sounds like there's plenty here who would like ea to die off for their pleasure. To many people on this forum nintendo has no responsibility for their poor third party relationships. It's ok to admit nintendo isn't perfect. They'll still let you buy their games. I promise.
@sixrings not sure how you can somehow sit on that high horse while actually defending a company that helped to make loot boxes mainstream in console gaming.
Must be nice still being able to defend such an evil company like EA... not sure how you do it though lol
@Scollurio In Japan the Switch version of FIFA 18 actually outsold the PS4 version. Take it as you will.
@jarvismp The richer don't get richer if people don't buy from them. Vote with your wallets and keep others informed.
@Trajan You've missed out on plenty of games. The Wii U was also for hardcore gamers and Miyamoto said that too.
@Dog You can say all kinds of things, doesn't make it true.
I do want to play Xenoblade X though.
A successor to the Wii U would be neat. Like a PS4 controller but a screen instead of a touch pad.
@sixrings Star Wars ended for me when they started their so-called "new canon" anyway. I want nothing to do with it. Luckily there is still a vibrant modding community building the Expanded Universe games we never got.
@sixrings
Yeah I have no desire for EA to die off. I don’t buy many of their games (Titanfall 2 was the last that wasn’t FIFA) but it’s not a boycott, they just don’t make much I want.
@Razer I can defend them by looking it as a business vs something personal. We as consumers can fight back by being personal and not supporting the business. That doesn't mean I wouldn't want more third party games. Also for years people praised nintendo for not doing dlc, free to play, shipping games that are not complete, or paid online. They do all of those "greedy" practices now but we justify it by moving the goal post. In the end it's all a business but because we love nintendo and they make family friendly games we somehow convinced ourselves that their end goal isn't growing the business financially. I'm just holding all companies to the same standard.
@electrolite77 just thinking about things further. If the future is all digital and streaming then nintendo has to become capable of pivoting and becoming a third party company. I don't have much faith in Google. But I didn't have faith in iphone or netflix either. If digital streaming is the future nintendo will likely need to partner up.
@sixrings
I can see that at some point. In fact didn't the new CEO allude to that not so long ago? They may even go the MS route of dedicated hardware along with streaming. Certainly seems foreseeable in the future, as long as they don’t get tied to a competitors platform.
@Dog Sure, the Switch also outsold the PS4 in Japan. Seems logical.
Something tells me this isn't about numbers of games sold, more likely money generated through Ultimate Team. Ultimate Team on Switch is dead compared to the PS4/Xbox versions so I am not surprised they have pulled this ... what has surprised me is how early they pulled the "Legacy Edition" out, even earlier than the Vita!
