It's time to put our rumour hats on once again, folks, as reports suggest that a Dark Souls II port could well be in the works for Nintendo Switch.
Dark Souls news has been flying around left, right, and centre over the last few days, with the Switch version of Dark Souls: Remastered getting a confirmed release date of 19th October, and then a new Dark Souls Trilogy being announced for other platforms that just so happens to be launching on the exact same day. Some Switch fans have been left rather annoyed by this, believing that other consoles are receiving a far superior product, but it seems that Nintendo's console might end up seeing more than just the first game after all.
Rumours are now pointing towards Bandai Namco being hard at work on porting Dark Souls II to Switch. The information comes from LeakyPandy, who claims to have received information from a source working at the publisher. LeakyPandy says that the sequel is already being worked on, with Dark Souls: Remastered acting "as a springboard to maximise efficiency" in its development.
Other information provided suggests that there is "no word" on Dark Souls III coming to the console - although, being a newer, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One title, we imagine a port of this would be trickier to pull off - and that Bandai Namco doesn't consider the simultaneous October launch to be an issue. Instead, the trilogy is seen as a “repackaging of existing products” that is not in any competition with the Switch remaster.
As ever, we'd advise you to take this rumour with a small bucket of salt; until the news is officially confirmed, there is no way to know for sure whether or not we'll see the game on Switch.
In the meantime, though, feel free to let us know if you'd like to see the remaining Dark Souls games on Nintendo's portable console with a comment below.

Soo...the Souls games will be separate on Switch...?
Can we just get the first one before anything else happens?
@RyanSilberman Like they already are on PS4/Xbox One. The Trilogy is just a limited release thing for NA/Asia.
Still...I'll believe this when I see it. Then again, Bandai Namco did say they were kicking themselves.
I only need the 1st. Wasn’t the 2nd entry the black sheep anyway?
Why does this remind me so much of Mass Effect on the Wii U...
Not interested in the series at all, but good if true. Unrelated, but I want Metal Gear Solid 1-4 on Switch (or at least a Twin Snakes remaster).
Day one but let me get the first one and play it before you go announcing another.
@Spanjard I'm hearing some consider it the best in the series but what do I know.
Makes sense if they already got the impresssion from preorder numbers that the first game's going to make some decent sales.
@RyanSilberman for now probably... but be patient cause for sure in the very very future they will release the trilogy... probably when they release DS V for the others consoles.
They doing a good job cleaning these up and not charging $60 for it.
Not for me, but FS is doing better than most when it comes to old catalog on Switch. Hopefully they get rewarded.
I'd consider double-dipping for 2. Easily my favorite of the trilogy.
Lets get the first and see how that goes.
But yeah this is good and to be honest expected.
Just get the trilogy in any other system xD
I think the problem with 3 is the engine they used for it, even normal Ps4 has problems running Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3.
Really hard to think it would run on Switch, would need some serious modifications, and before someone tell me about Doom and Wolfenstein, Id Tech probably is a much more flexible engine.
Also the second one is super good, especially after the DLC, terribly underrated and imo it had the best PVP and Coop of all games, also it had tons of weapos and builds, really tons of content overall
Dark souls aye
I never played this one. Is it better than the first?
To me, the ideal scenario would be for them to release the first two games in a pack for the Switch, since they are older games anyway that should not be too challenging to get on the Switch, which would be a much more attractive offer than release two older games separately over time, specially now that a lot of people think that DS2 is a bit of a black sheep, and based on the sales of that, gauge if it would be worth to tackle the challenge of porting Dark Souls III. But hey, that's just me dreaming. Would be super cool.
That’s why I am holding off on the trilogy. If they put all three on switch that would be pretty fantastic. (Hey Capcom, port dragons dogma will ya?!)
Where's DS III?!!?
Just kidding... Good news if true!
Good news to me! Hope we make it to Bloodborne. I’ll take them all.
I think Dark Souls 2 and 3 will make their way to Switch. The idea that because the 3rd game came out only on current systems makes it trickier is pretty silly, in my opinion. If the devs see dollars, the games will come.
@Spectra Demons Souls would be nice... if Sony didn't own it. That's the whole reason Dark Souls exists, so From could go multi-platform.
@Audiobrainiac I want portable Bloodborne so bad, but it can't happen on Switch for the same reason as Demons Souls.
omg, this would be amazing! Though it isn't nearly as good as 1 and 3, it's still an excellent game!
Also, for those who say that they have no interest in the series, I implore you to give the series a chance. They are brilliantly-crafted, playable, intoxicating games! They're difficult, but they're always fair!
As much as I would love to see DS3 on Switch, I don't know how feasible it would be. A lot of concessions would have to be made (The Nameless King fight alone would really tax the hardware).
@GraveLordXD
Agreed! Another problem with DS2 is that I didn't think the bosses were nearly as memorable as the boss fights from DS1 and DS3. It's still an amazing game, though.
it might even make it out before the first one arrives on switch
@bitleman bit of a different atmosphere that's hard to put a finger on. Not quite as dark and gritty. Same gameplay style, though spells and progression work a bit differently.
Nintendo should ask FromSoftware to make their very own exclusive.
Two is the worst of the souls games for me. It lacks the level and creature design that made the first so memorable. The third recovered the vibe to some degree, but still can't match the eerie gothic atmosphere of the first Dark Souls.
My brother will be pleased to hear this
Wow too soon and the first one hasn't even been out yet. It looks like Namco is confident that the first one will sell. Hopefully this doesn't come bite them in the end.
I will just get the Trilogy for free on PS4, unless they secretly are making it a Switch trilogy and that is why it is taking so long.
My two cents. DS2 is a great game. The level design it a little less impressive compared to DS1 and DS3 but it has a lot of content. Tons of weapons and possible builds. Tons of bosses. Its really good. But its not for everyone just like DS1 and DS3
Dark Souls 2 is the worst game in the series. Switch owners are better off giving this one a pass if the rumors are to be believed
I never got to pay DS3, but I absolutely love DS1 & 2, even if DS2 didn't offer the same grand mythology of the first and third. I sent the second was a little more personal, and tragic. The enemies were a bit boring but comparison, but there were a few major standouts. I'll be picking this up day one, should it see a release.
@GraveLordXD The biggest problem with 3 is not "bad" level design per say but very linear level design. It's pretty lackluster compared to DS1's sprawling interconnecting world. Other than that though DS3 is a pretty worth while sequel. It just sucks that the Switch probably couldn't handle it, not without major compromises anyway
@Spanjard When you're the rotten step child of a legendary series, your still better than 90% of the other games out there. I always found that funny it gets bashed for being the rotten step child yet its still a 91% metacritic game.
Eugh. Why not Demons Souls instead?
DS2 sucks.
Rumours of From Software already succeeding at getting Dark Souls III to run well on Switch go as far back as December 2016...
http://letsplayvideogames.com/2016/12/report-dark-souls-3-running-on-switch-from-software-considering-trilogy-rerelease/
All seems pretty logical to me. I'd imagine a lot of the ground work has been done for DS2 just by remastering DS1. I also don't see why 3 wouldn't follow after it, recent Switch ports show that it can pull off current gen games so I think all three will make it over time.
@Audiobrainiac Wasn't Bloodborne funded by Sony?
Makes sense because it was avaliable on the Ps3 too. It will be interesting to see if they get 3 to work.
Not buying the rumor someone posted that said its already working because they would have released it for money.
Second entry was underrated. I personally liked it more than the third, but I may have had some Dark Souls fatigue by the time the third entry released. All that said, a talented team could port Dark Souls 3 to Switch as well. I don't recall being overly impressed with it from a graphical standpoint.
@EightBitMan you underestimate the portability factor. Assuming the Switch ports are decent, I'd take being able to play anywhere over some graphical fidelity.
@Switch_will_fail the 'worst' game in the series is still miles better than many games.
@GraveLordXD I've never heard anyone complain about Tomb of the Giants before so that ones a little odd to me. I like Tomb of the Giants. And as far as Lost Izalith goes, it's one poor area in a sea of well designed areas. It seems a little odd to complain about DS1's level design as a whole based off of one area. But to each their own
@Spoony_Tech I never heard that opinion but I’d be happy to be proven wrong.
Kotaku's Laura Dale reported that both Dark Souls 2 and 3 were coming to the Switch the same say that Dark Souls Remastered was announced.
LeakyPandy is not a reliable source as everything he/she has reported has never come to fruition. Laura Dale has also made her fair share of errors, but at least she has gotten some stuff right.
@justin233 twin snakes is a remaster...? remaster of a remaster...
Seems very believable. The Switch audience has got to be the core gamer type for DS. And a grindy game of try until you succeed would just play best on the hybrid.
OTOH, thank you Nintendo, now everything I bought over the last 3 months on XBox I have to rebuy on Switch
@link3710 Mass effect got the third game and not the first two on Nintendo. Dark Souls gets 1, and now 2 is suggested in the rumor mill. Starting with 1, not with 3 helps the odds a lot more than the colossal fail that was ME WiiU
@GraveLordXD It's an underground tomb where there's no light...of course it's going to be dark lol. It would be weirder if it wasn't!
@Spectra Except ME was never owned directly by a console maker. But hey, I'm not trying to stop you from keeping the dream alive. Maybe Sony will sell Demons Souls and Bloodborne eventually. Stranger things have happened. Like Nintendo bankrolling Bayonetta, which for me was a truly unexpected and weird gaming industry occurrence. I guess there's faint hope for anything.
@NEStalgia "thank you Nintendo... "
#firstworldproblems #nobodyisholdingaguntoyourhead
@NEStalgia Oh I'm well aware. Porting ME3, an game literally driven by your choices in the past 2 games, by itself is one of the most baffling decisions I've ever seen. I almost got it anyways, but then the trilogy release happened and well... just waited til I could get a 360 off someone for like, 20 bucks and played it on that.
@boop22 I guess so since it probably hasn’t aged well since the GC days.
@ThanosReXXX If it were Konami or Sega that might not be true
@link3710
I almost made the mistake of doing that as well during the launch Black Friday sale at Toys R Us (RIP). I got so hung up on playing the others first that I decided to get Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge and Batman Arkham City instead.
Ok, that's awesome. Switch really delivers on the 3rd party front.
@link3710 I played just the ME3 and had a blast. The Wii U controller features were amazing. Really made the game for me.
@RyanSilberman
You'll have to buy them separately, but you can then put them in the same box in your home.
@justin233 the psx MGS is still better than twin snakes lol, GC hasnt aged well
@boop22 I don't really care what kind of graphics it has as long as I get to play MGS on Switch.
Oh hell yeah the dream of playing all of Dark Souls on a portable is happening!!!
@link3710 : That isn't a fair comparison though. EA had no plans to release the first two Mass Effect games on Wii U, and the franchise had never been available on a Nintendo platform prior to its release, so it never made sense to release a late port to a platform where the audience for the franchise was nonexistent, and existing fans would have bought the third instalment already on their platform of choice. Perhaps the worst thing about the Wii U version is that it did not include the DLC content on the disc (hell, it wasn't released in any form for the Wii U).
At least Namco seem intent on releasing the entire trilogy on Switch. Plus, the trilogy is being sold as a premium-priced release while Dark Souls Remastered is more or less a budget title (at least in Australia), whereas Mass Effect 3 on Wii U was released with the same asking price as the trilogy on other platforms.
@justin233 i would do anything to play mgs 1-4 again, NOT on my PS3, portable mgs would be awesome
It was my understanding we would get all three eventually.
@justin233 Twin Snakes would do me. A port of MGSV collection would be nice.
@Agramonte Probably because Nintendo knows their games will sell even if they sell them for $60. They’d be stupid to sell them for less, though I wish they were less expensive.
If Namco thinks seeing the trilogy packaged for other consoles but not switch doesn't lower my. Interest they can't have great consumer research. It 100% has reduced me from a definite buy to maybe... If its in a sale... Probably not purchase,. And I don't have a ps4 or xbox so that won't get them a different sale, I just don't like feeling I'm being offered an inferior product
It will depend on how well Dark Souls sells on Switch and if it meets Bandai's satisfaction.
Considering I am loving Salt and Sanctuary on Nintendo Switch, I consider this to a win-win.
@NEStalgia @Silly_G Oh I'm well aware that it's not the same thing. Just that this whole thing vaguely reminds me of that situation. Dark Souls will fare far better however.
This is personally my favorite of the series, although I have played far too much of it on Xbox to pick it up on Switch, assuming this rumor is true.
@roboshort "They’d be stupid to sell them for less"
That is the same thing Activision and EA say when they over charge us. Not a good thing either way.
As a rule, I do not buy any $60 port (any system, any publisher)
@Devlind I don’t know.
@NoxAeturnus well, that sucks. One can dream I guess.
@Audiobrainiac Apparently they own the rights, even if it was developed by FromSoftware. Something along the lines of Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo. So yeah, a Bloodborne port seems unlikely.
I bought Dark Souls: Remastered for the switch the day it launched and I love playing it in handheld so I'd be overjoyed to see ethe rest of the dark souls games on the switch. Even if they had to dumb down the third one a little to allow it to run smoothly on the switch.
Would love to play this and try, only playied switch remastered and big bro gave me the Rd but I really would like to see this trilogy on switch so I could have them all on this console over the ps4
