If you've been enjoying Pokémon Quest on your Switch, or especially if you've been waiting to get your hands on the smartphone version of the game instead, you'll no doubt be pleased to know that the game has launched on mobile devices today (27th June).
This latest, free-to-play, pocket monster adventure had a very decent launch on Switch, generating over a million downloads in around two days, and we suspect that this mobile edition of the game will perform just as strongly. The pick-up-and-play gameplay style and short expeditions present in the game feel like a perfect fit for mobile play, and the Pokémon branding alone will likely attract some fans of megahit Pokémon GO. If you're someone who will be experiencing the game for the first time today, feel free to check out our beginner's guide which should help you get to grips with everything you need to know.
In case you weren't aware, it's worth noting that the Switch and mobile versions of Pokémon Quest cannot interact with each other, and data cannot be transferred between the two. If you were hoping to transfer your Switch version save file over to mobile, this is sadly impossible.
Pokémon Quest is available from the App Store and Google Play for free. Optional in-game purchases are available, although you can play through the game without spending anything if you prefer.

Not interested with Mobile version.
I had downloaded the Switch version.
I'd rather play this on mobile, but overall I'm not interested in it. I'm not going to bust out my Switch to play a barebones, simple mobile game.
Nintendo is not pushing cross-play? We should call this Sonying a game.
Well I have definitively lost all interest in that game if I can't transfer my progress on Android as it is pretty annoying to play it on the switch.
Am I the only one to be left absolutely cold by these creatures? No thanks, but if it's your bag enjoy.
This is better suited on mobile than switch.
I'd rather play this on Switch.
I don't like playing games on mobile.
I'm already playing 3/4 mobile games at the moment, I'll just stick to the Switch version
I installed this on my Switch and played for a couple of days... I had even totally forgotten about it...
I might play a bit more on mobile. This is a game to spend five minutes at the most everyday. This shouldn't be on the Switch in the first place. Just my opinion though...
... where it belongs. Sorry folks, but the reason I bought a switch was exactly to play other things on the go than the usual mobile-type freemium games.
To me, this is the same as any other mobile port. The reason a lot of people criticize these, is because these titles are mostly all designed with a specific earning model that forces the insertion of artificial play mechanics and game aspects that have the sole consideration of making you spend money again and again and again. While you can, technically not pay anything, these games are usually designed to slow your progress for the sole purpose of selling you stuff that'll accelerate it. And this being built directly in the game mechanics, it always feel, to me anyways, like bad game design that completely disconnects me from the game's universe.
I know many people play these, especially on mobile platforms, but like I said, one of the main reason the Switch is appealing, is that it's a dedicated console that should host a plethora of more traditionnal gaming options. It's for those wanting to play "real games" and not "time wasters good for when you have a 5-minute wait before your appointment".
The Switch, for me, is more or less an evolution of what the Vita was, and like it, it needs to differentiates itself from the mobile platforms, otherwise, there's not much reasons to spend $450 to get one for me.
If anyone wants to port mobile games to the Switch, at least, make them "deluxe" editions with additionnal content, and actually sell them at a fixed price. To me, there's no point otherwise.
I mostly just have the auto button revved up, so it's good on Switch so I can do something else, such as play a match in Overwatch, or go to the bathroom, or even type this very comment!
@Realnoize
i 'get' what you are saying but as long as it's free i don't really see the issue.
heck; they could release this on the ps/xb stores as well if they really wanted to.
Did they tie it in at all to MyNintendo or is Gamefreak claiming this one as opposed to Nintendo?
Do Switch owners get anything to celebrate? I was holding out for a level 100 Pokémon to get me through the bosses in world's 9 and 10 where I've given up. I collect my 50 tickets and 1 new Pokémon every night but that's it.
well, i guess I'll stick with the switch version
Well, if Pokémon Shuffle is anything to go by, it's much more worth it to play on the Switch.
The mobile version of Shuffle is the exact same game as the 3DS version, except it came out later and you couldn't transfer your data from one game to another just like in this case, but other than the fact that there were (again: WERE) some mobile-exclusive challenges at some point, all the items are more expensive, some of the stages have more HP and/or a lower catch rate, it's much harder to farm money, etc.
@sword_9mm
Well, it doesn't hurt anyone to have it on the Switch, but it's just, in my opinion, not a good move spending time, money and energy bringing these type of games to the Switch, as it doesn't add any value to the console, since practically everyone has a mobile phone they can play these type of games on. It's like spending money on something that doesn't really help sell your console. Why spend money to play something I can already play?
Granted, some who don't have access to a mobile phone or tablet (young kids???) would then be able to play this game, but given this a freemium title made in the hopes of making people spend real-world money on digital resources, I think this is aimed more at people having disposable income, which is roughly the same market as those already having a mobile phone anyways... so, I still fail to see the relevancy.
Like I said, no harm in getting it on the Switch. But I'd prefer to see the resources put into such a game on Switch to be allocated somewhere else where it will make the platform shine, and be more attractive. Not like it isn't, but you know what I mean.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A:
"Your device is not compatible with this version."
@Aozz101x You're not alone.
I’ve put in nearly 20 hrs in the Switch version and I’m almost completely finished. I don’t foresee myself getting all the Pokémon. As soon as I beat all 10 levels, I’m out. And that’s a loose 20 hrs... it plays itself, so I’ve basically played like 5 hrs
I actually kinda prefer to leave this playing by itself on the little TV I have in the corner while I do other stuff.
Having it truly on the go would be nice though... But I don't want to juggle two files.
I find it really dumb how the switch version can't be loaded without synching a full controller. The game is fully playable with touch! Why gamefreak?
Played on Switch but feels too much like smartphone gameplay. So I deleted and will be going forward with it on my iPhone.
@Realnoize I totally agree with you “brings no value to Switch”
Fun game don’t get me wrong but it belongs on a smartphone. Now for those without smartphones... this is a great way to get in on the fun.
@Realnoize Holy crap relax. There are other games on the Switch than this.
Like I did with Pokemon Shuffle for the 3 DS, I'll stick to the switch version. Got too many mobile games I've been playing lately anyways, at least this way I can play that and the switch at the same time.
Had I been able to play the same account on Switch as on mobile, I'd be continuing this game.
Nice! But still on the Switch
