With the exciting news of Super Smash Bros. coming to Switch later this year, a modders thoughts turn to how to make a homemade GameCube Switch dock with working controllers naturally. We normally wouldn't cover such mods, but Rated-E Mods did such an amazing job with this one, we just couldn't resist!
So what do you need to do this project? A GameCube case of course, a Nintendo Switch dock and a GameCube controller adapter. The slot which holds the Switch is 3D printed for this mod, so it's only the innards of the original dock which are used.
We have to say this is a really cool project, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. Have a watch of the video above and let us know your thoughts on this lovely mod with a comment below.

That looks deadly.
Honestly: This is very cool
(Other question: Is playing BotW with the GameCube controller possible? You need ZL a lot...)
If the gamecube controller works then i can kind of understand, but poor gamecube
Is it 1st April already?
Wow. That's amazing. I would hate to see GameCubes get destroyed making these but this is easily the best dock mod I've seen.
Looks beautiful. Although my gamecube is still hooked up to the tv. I can never do this
Someone should made a toaster for Switch.
As cool as this is, I could never do that too a poor innocent GameCube.
Hallelujah !
I feel sad for the GameCube that had to be sacrificed for this
Needs more glue.
For people worried about the GameCube, this is a project by a modder and he has tons of shells laying around. No healthy GameCube was harmed in the production of this dock.
My biggest problem with this mod is how bulky it is. Still, if GameCube games come to Switch via VC, this could be a nice way to have the hardware showcased instead of maintaining an original GameCube.
That’s a lot of glue.
And people were worried about the original dock scratching their screens...
Stupid
nice update to the Nintendo switch docking station. however, i think they should have tried to take advantage of the serial ports in the GameCube system. if they did, it could allow them to have the Nintendo wii/wii u/ switch Ethernet adapter built into the docking station in the same way as the GameCube controller adapter.
these guys have way to much time on their hands. i think it is about time for some of them to start making accessories for the GameCube. it would be nice to have a NES, SNES, or an N64 player for the GameCube.
@aaronsullivan
i prefer maintaining an original GameCube even though the unit is over 15 years old. i still play some of those games from time to time.
The ten pounds of glue aside they went to a lot more trouble than needed to make this mod. The 3D printer was not a good fit here and you could have easily made a plastic mold for this as the stand is pretty basic. The other option is to modify an original stand which would have worked as well. There are also much easier, cleaner and faster ways to cut plastic. They mentioned epoxy glue for some of the pieces but it looked like low temp straight out of the tube epoxy which will fail in this application. Only two part resin type epoxy will last in heat.
Why would he derstroy a GameCube?
Where are the airvents?!?!?
Well this is my jam people
let's see after 1 week of use how scratched is the screen of the Switch
Luckily no working GC were harmed - I’m against cruelty to Nintendo consoles.
I have two GCs and not even slightly tempted to break either.
Cool idea and looks good but not for me.
Dock sock to protect the screen is the only mod I’ll do to my dock!
Great idea but it would be just too bulky for me as I have several consoles sitting in various places, I need the space.
Gamecube abuse. Such a strong console...destroyed?!
