Who knew one man's LinkedIn page could cause so much furor in the world of Nintendo Switch rumours? Well, Bandai Namco Singapore Studios' Shawn Pitman is at it again with his profile showing he's working on a brand new Ridge Racer that also happens to be a Switch exclusive? The same page has also revealed the developer may be working on an 'unannounced IP' that could be Metroid Prime 4 or something else...
Ridge Racer has been pretty quiet as an IP of late on consoles since Ridge Racer Unbounded and the PS Vita instalment back in 2012, so it's certainly time for the series to make a return. If the post on LinkedIn is true, then Bandai Namco is bringing development in house again, much like it did with Ridge Racer 3D on 3DS (Unbounded and the PS Vita entry were developed by external studios).
But what do you make of the rumour? Would you want to see the arcade racer make a triumphant return, and a Switch exclusive one at that? Let us know...

Colour me curious, although I'm still stuck in Ridge Racer DS endgame. Hopefully other entries including this one have more customizable drift controls.
you should credit youtuber Doctre81since he was the first one to actually find this information and pass it along like gamexplain and gonintendo have done. also its wrong to show the the persons name from the linkedin account since they will most likely get in trouble for it...just courtesy in my opinion
This would be a great addition to the Switch library. I've always loved the non-seriousness of Ridge Racer! Plus the 3DS one although a launch title is still extremely fun!
I thought this was why it wasn't mentioned in the Bamco/MP4 story. 2 for the price of 1. All other sites posted both as one because it came from the same page.
And like I said in the other story, you should credit doctre81.

OK, let's get it out of our systems...

I have always struggled a bit with Ridge Racer, possibly because I never played it on PS. I found Ridge Racer DS very hard to control, but the 3DS game seemed better in that respect. Actually really liked the Gamecube ?R-Racing game that I bought just to get PacManVS and got more mileage out of it.
I'll buy it
Could be possible? Weren't we suppose to of heard of three exclusives from well established IPs from Bamco last month?
except ace combat 7 isn't a PS4 exclusive. how much can you trust a "lead designer" who doesn't know what platforms his game is on? especially when you want to use information from the same guy regarding what platforms other games are on LOL
Oh yes!!! Pleeeease!! Its the only racing game I like, that would be so awesome!!
@Equinox have you ever played a ridge racer game? you don't need analog triggers. it's the most arcade racer ever.
Would love this, always been a massive Ridge Racer fan going back to Ridge Racer Revolution on the PS1
Edit: I do actually remember back in the late 90's at our local Bowling Alley in the arcade section they had an actual full sized car you could sit in an play Ridge Racer on the big screen — Good Times
Best news in weeks! I would love a new ridge racer on Switch.
Love for this to be true, but you realise that that's the worst possible picture you could have chosen to kill all the hype for it?
Unbounded was total crap so you might want to go for one which brings a bit more nostalgia, like this:
@meppi it looks like they put more polygons in the girl model than the cars.
This is great news if true let’s hope it sticks to the original formula of just being a proper good arcade racer unbounded was absolute trash and would it kill them to include the original in arcade perfect form but with the ps1 handling model
@Jamotello It's all about getting their priorities straight!
@meppi under the new F1 Rules this would be banned
@Equinox Analog triggers have been simulated for years now. If you own a Nintendo Switch try "Gear Club Unlimited" to get an idea.
Any kind of racing game would be welcome on Switch. It's lacking in that department. Loved the ridge racer series back in the day.
I’d welcome Ridge Racer! Have 60+ hours into Gear.Club. Should finish the last dozen or so tournaments soon....
@Bunkerneath Well lucky for us, we're into illegal street racing here.
So bring on the higher than average polygon models!
@Blister Pacman VS on Gamecube was about the most fun party game ever in my opinion. Still have R-Racing for the same reason. Wii U would've been perfect for it, but maybe untangling cables in time for the next round was part of the joy on GC
Please be true! And EA please give us the Burnout Paradise port that's appearing on the PS4
@Fuz Hey! You're right!
Totally forgot about that.
It's been way too long since I played the original. I think I'll boot it up this weekend.
Please be true please be true please be true.........
I wish this article was rather about dragonball fighterz on the switch. No one asked for this. Unless there's loads of content online play and has the best graphics pushing the switch to its limits I'm not interested. With all the great games out there namco you give us this where's tekken 7 too. 😠
Another day 1 purchase for me. Love this series very much since PSX.
Yessssss. My 12 year old son makes fun of me because I tell him Ridge Racers are my favorite racing games. Hes into Asseto Corsa and Beam NG Drive, Need For Speeds etc. Cant wait for him to laugh at me having fun playing this!
that would be another reason to buy a switch. if it's a classic ridge racer game and not that unbound stuff. loved the 3ds one. one of my favourite 3ds games and the only game i ever completed 100%
I want
Love the Ridge Racer series so really hope this is true.
In some ways Ridge Racer is crazier than Burnout... you don't drift like a skater on ice with a car. What kind of tyres are they using? But it sure is fun...
I've been thinking about this for a while and wondering why is it Switch exclusive. Then I was thinking about the competition and how there's an opportunity here for Bamco to make this Nintendo's big exclusive realistic racer.
Sony: Gran Turismo
Microsoft: Forza
Nintendo: Ridge Racer
This is more than just a rumor, is almost a confirmation that its happening, its the lead designer of bandai namco. I guess its a matter of time until bandai make an official announcement.
Super excited for this
@Shambo Yes, I had the chance to try out PacManVs in Namco Museum on TWO Switches recently and not having the tangle seemed to make it feel less urgent and chaotic! Agree that I always felt it should have come to WiiU as it would have worked a dream on that format.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I actually wouldn't be surprised if this was more of request by Nintendo ala Bayonetta.
The series appears to be completely dead.
Nintendo systems don't have a dedicated racing game since the last F-Zero or Waverace or even ExciteTruck to some extent. So it fills a gap for sure.
They seem to like the idea of bringing certain fan favourites back from obscurity that would otherwise remain dormant, so who knows.
But that's all just speculation on my part.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I wouldn't compare Ridge Racer to Forza and Gran Turismo.
2018 is here.
Might seem a slow start but mark my words, by December 31st the landscape will be completely different. The games are coming.
Still need a little more time to brew, but come e3 and fall, the announcements are going to increase dramatically.
Yes please Ridge Racer 3D was an absolutely belting game and in my eye the true star of the 3DS launch line-up.
I really liked unbounded lol please bum it to Switch idbuy it!
Not sure I've ever played a Ridge Racer game...
...but getting any big name arcade racer on the Switch is a definite plus and I'll look forward to trying it.
PS. This is how viral marketing works. 'Accidental' releases of information in slightly obscure places, then let the internet do its thing.
@manu0
Perhaps he's just referring to the version he was peronally responsible for and used awkward wording.
Also, seeing how things are going for Microsoft, maybe the X1 version was siletly cancelled. I was pretty surprised when i noticed the Blaz Blue Tag Battle game doesn't come to the X1.
It's Riiiiiidge Racer.
Could be interesting, a ground up ridge racer for Switch, rather than something built for x86 then pared back...
I’d still like to see a Sega racing classics collection, Daytona, the Sega Rallies, Scud Racer etc.
Ive only played the 3ds ridge racer and that seemed really generic and basic to me. So I really hope they design and polish this one well
Definitely, Ridge racer 64 is still one of my favorites.
YES!!!! and real Ridge Racer please not that unbounded nonsense. rumours were flying about a HD remake of one of the earlier titles, so perhaps 'RR8' is part remake or the remake project morphed into a brand new entry. either way exciting!
not played since n64 and arcade, as long as it has decent content al buy.... unless a new burnout takedown gets announced....
The last decent RR game I played was Ridge Racer 3D. I'd settle for a portable RR7 but if they give us an all new one, that'd be great. Give me mid/rear-engined exotic super cars and good online play please. Maybe Bandai Namco can redeem themselves of RR for Vita...
Oh.please let this be true. Couldn't care less about it being exclusive, but Ridge on Switch would be great, and it needs more racing games.
@WiltonRoots
"I’d still like to see a Sega racing classics collection, Daytona, the Sega Rallies, Scud Racer etc."
(Throws money at screen)
If they go away from the horrible DLC structure that plagued Ridge Racer Vita, I'm down for RR 8. That series has been gone too long. I much prefer arcade racers to the driving simulators that fill the current gen.
The Switch is terrible at racing games. There's what? Fast RMX and that mobile port Gear Club something...? Well, I'm starving for F1 2018 on the Switch.
I'd consider buying Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer on the Switch if the reviews are 8+ out of 10.
Ridge Racer really fell off after the PS1 era. It struggled on the PS2 and only seemed to get worse from there.
Well, Kaz is leaving Sony......maybe he can give Switch a voiceover
@thanosrexxx So I heard you like arcade racers.......something about getting a wallet out etc. etc.
Sure go ahead, love a bit of Ridge Racer.
@NEStalgia Haha, touché. And right back at'cha...
Any racer is welcome in my books. Bring it.
No car customization, no buy.
The Wall Street Journal reported last year that a ton of new Japanese games aimed directly at the Switch were in development currently, but would not be announced too soon as they probably won't come out until 2019 at the earliest, as most development didn't start until mid 2017. Count this and more as part of that load.
I’ve not played any of the modern Ridge Racer games, but back in the day I preferred the Saturn Sega Rally / Daytona over the PlayStation Ridge Racer.
I need Sega Arcade Classics on Switch
I only played Ridge Racer in the arcade and on the PS1. I didn't really like either of them so I've never bothered with the series.
Maybe if it reviews well on the Switch I'd give it another try. The old racers I'd really like to come back would be F-Zero or Test Drive.
Please keep it as a good old Ridge Racer and not the Unbound one. I LOVE RR!
Yes. I am looking forward to a Ridge Racer on Switch. But exclusivity isn't really something I care about. I would be happy if Sony and MS players could play it also.
The only benefit of a exclusivity deal, is that the game will be optimized perfectly for the Switch hardware. That I am looking forward to
It's Ridge Racer...RIDDGEE RRAACERR remember that one? :3
It be great to see this again... would be even better to have a port of the original Ridge Racer arcade game, which I still think is the best one in the series.
Man I so wish we got a console Ridge Racer back when the Wii and Wii U were around. I love the series when it still had entry for PS1, PS2, N64, DS, GameCube, PSP, PS Vita, and 3DS. A Switch version of the next entry would be awesome. Still kinda surprise that there's no PS4 and Xbox One version of this yet, usually those are the platforms that will get this before Switch.
It's about time for a good racer on switch. No, Rocket League is no racer!
@electrolite77 Oh yeah Sega Rally or Daytona with HD rumble...
I'm still waiting for 90's Super GP (formerly The 90's Arcade Racer) to be released.
