Over the past few years Nintendo's been upping its game with its trailers and commercials, reaching a high point recently with a fabulous Super Mario Odyssey musical. With the lucrative Holiday shopping window now around the corner we can see the latest big pitch for the Switch - called 'Nintendo Switch Moments Come to Life'.
It showcases various games in quite a smart way, check it out below.
One part that stands out to us is the company's continued efforts to push EA's FIFA 18; it's evidently keen to try and deliver solid sales in order to convince major third-parties that investment in the Switch is worthwhile.
Let us know what you think of this commercial down in the comments.

I'd watch anything with Bowser in it! That commercial actually wasn't too bad.
Interesting part is there's only one non nintendo game on it and thats Fifa 18. Nintendo wants it to succeed.
Bowser should try out Super Mario Odyssey. i wonder what his reaction of mario beating him in the game.
Probably the best ad I've seen them do since Switch launched. All previous ads have been ok, but a bit lacking in style and polish. The animation of the kid kicking the ball in the net was done properly, and Bowser was looking sexy-as.
Well EA at least can't say Nintendo is not trying to help their sales out. If it's not selling then give us something that will sell.
Perfectly acceptable. The Switch can go out into any environment is a point exaggerated by the game elements coming to life. The take away I get is simply , “fun with friends” and that positions the gaming device well away from the moody Xbox one x and the ps4.
When I saw it I didn't think about the Fifa game (or solid sales) I thought that the ad tried show case several genres for the platform like:
RPG (Zelda)
Mario (Adventure/Platformer)
Mario Kart (Race game)
Splatoon (Shooter)
Fifa (Sport)
So the ad showed that any genre you want you will find a game on the Switch.
On the top of that we have already seen ads for NBA, Skyrim, Fire Emblem etc etc.
So Nintendo is trying to show ALL the games they can, the only ones I'm yet to see on a Nintendo ad is the LA Noire and Sonic, apart from those, everything else Nintendo has covered.
All the pretty young things in modern Ninty ads make me feel old
Libre pikachu is just too adorable..
awesome ad.
@Spoony_Tech @dimi I imagine this is in part why EA are so reluctant to say anything regarding the sales on Switch until March. They are likely seeing how well the Nintendo advertising does for the game.
I really like these ads Nintendo is making for the Switch. They are also doing a better job of making sure people see them. I get a Switch ad pretty much every other commercial break. I even saw the Fire Emblem Warriors ad when I was watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Overall, much better than the Wii U ads. Not that anybody would know since those never came on.
Nice of them to throw EA a bone, but if EAs approach is globally like it was in the UK I think they'd want it to fail as an excuse to walk away. Minimum shipment order, not trying like hell to advertise it, skimping on the modes compared to any other release and it sells not well as it comes in at the same price for less.
If the ad helps sell more for EA great, but doing the Switch dirty as they have I can't say they really deserve it. There are far better developers placing their goods on there that showed trust all along big (Bethesda and to a much esser degree Capcom with the USF2 big sales surprise), and small (Nicalis.)
It's nice to see Nintendo advertise, something they sorely lacked with the Wii U. Also nice of them to put FIFA on there, but ultimately, it doesn't seem like it will do much at this point. They're probably just trying to keep some goodwill with EA.
@KIRO Totally agree - the tone is great - really upbeat - and it manages to unite youngsters and young adults in an ad that makes it look cool and fun to play these games together whatever the age.
Nintendo have a great range of visual flair in these games and it shows here - Fifa being the obvious exception but I totally understand the motivation for wanting to attract those gamers.
I think the Pokemon bit is realised really well and will strike a chord with youngsters - the majority of who will have had no clue about Poken's existence and may well be like 'a Pokemon fighting game - WHAAAT!!
It's a pretty killer line up for year one and this sells it nicely.
@Spoony_Tech I think a Madden Football would've killed on the Switch, in my opinion.
Laundry dad is the best. He's what every woman dreams of, a handsome man, doing laundry, and taking time to bond with his son.
Overall I felt it lacked a clear message though. Probably b/c it was 90 seconds and a compilation of shorter commercials. There was an email in my inbox that I really liked, w/ a subject line of:
Total Domination begins on Ntinedo Switch
then listed a bunch of competitive games w/ an animated "Adrenaline Pumping" ad. It felt like an ad that was going after PS4 and Xbox, not just preaching to the choir.

The commercial is still good, especially after the past 4 years of Wii U being hung out to dry. Kimishima is spending on marketing.
I wonder how that guy feels about being possessed by Mario...
@dimi Fifa is a gateway into a huge pre-teen / teen male market that PS4 and Xbox dominate. It's a group that are fairly conservative in their tastes and less willing than others to be seen doing something different.
It's made trickier by the fairly widely held impression (outside of Nintendo message boards) that Nintendo make kiddie consoles - an association that this group run a mile from - and into the arms of the self consciously serious PS4 + Xbox.
I think this is why Nintendo are pitching the ads with stylish young adults. It makes it aspirational for the younger teens - and therefore the pre teens - but avoids the 'core gamer' exclusivity - and nesesary bleak tone - that could put off the wider spectrum of gamers.
WARNING: Don’t kick footballs at your television screen.
@dimi
Of course. Nintendo are trying to sell a system off the back of local multiplayer, as well as selling online subscriptions. If they want to sell Switch to the mainstream, they need sport games.
Honestly, I thought that someone was going to transform into a Pokémon.
On the bigger point, playing with Bowser appears fun.
@Slaz
"WARNING: Don’t kick footballs at your television screen. "
Or your TV will be KABOOOOM...!!
Btw, Great Commercial, Nintendo !
What a brilliant commercial, showcasing the best 1st and 3rd party titles the Switch has to offer, all while "bringing them to life". More marketing like this, please!
Best. Ad. Ever.
@TJM Great comment! Could not have put it better if I tried.
@tourjeff Yo got me triggered when you implied Zelda was an RPG
Cuz it ain't
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is dat, boiiiiiiii
I think the problem with Fifa not selling well is it has reviewed not great so why would people want to buy a sub par game
@GC-161 Well, that is open for debate isn't it?
The only thing, IMHO, missing on Zelda series is the leveling up as there was only one Zelda with that option which was: The Adventure of Link.
All the other elements of RPG are there.
Perhaps it is not a full complex RPG but the elements are there.
@tourjeff Well you can find many of those same elements in games that are clearly not RPG's. Some could tag. the GTA games as such.
But anywhoo, lets debate this: some people tend to call Zelda an RPG since the 1st NES game broke ground for the genre to flourish (Dragon Warrior/Quest and Final Fantasy came soon after). I mean RPG's were already a thing on PC, of course. But on consoles, Zelda paved the way.
But Miyamoto doesn't like labeling Zelda as an rpg because with that series he was only taking elements from real RPG games and applying them to create a unique adventure experience where exploration was the main selling point.
Unlike with real RPG's, Zelda games are not about the story but the overall experience of discovering stuff. I mean Miyamoto is infamous for not liking to infuse his games with a detailed story or plot. So right there, a mayor element for real RPG's goes out the window.
Great ad. Their marketing has been really on point with the Switch
@SM4SHshorts The best 3rd party titles? The only one in there was FIFA. Where was Doom? Skyrim? LA Noire? WWE 2K18? How about some quality indie games like Fast RMX and The Mummy Demastered? Nintendo has made this mistake many times in the past. Too much focus on the 1st party software. There's needs to be a healthy mix of 1st party, 3rd party and indie in the advertising... Show people the Switch isn't just for Mario and Zelda. It's for EVERYTHING.
@vio Maybe there was a mixup in translation there. The "s" in "titles" was part of the sentence "1st and 3rd party titles". Sure, there could've been more 3rd party representation, but in light of what this advert was trying to achieve, I think they did pretty well.
I'm trying to imagine how they could bring WWE 2K18 into the living room of a family, without the parents and kids wrestling each other
Bowser is cool.
Still remember this commercial. I always wondered what that yellow thing on the right at 0:20 was, I know the background is just a green screen, but that always stuck me for some reason...
Oh wait, it was a truck.
And for some reason FIFA 18 on Switch has motion blur on this ad...
