Pokémon GO has been pretty good about hosting new events to celebrate the coming of milestone moments throughout the year, often coinciding with holidays to bring special bonuses to the game that entice lapsed players back into the fold. Last year’s Halloween event was quite successful, bringing the game back to the top of the iPhone charts and hitting ever higher levels of user engagement. Now, Niantic has announced that it’ll be doing another Halloween event.
Details are scarce on the ground right now, but if it’s anything like last year, expect a lot of Ghost-types to be popping up, and maybe some extra candy handouts, too. Here’s the official blurb form the Pokémon site:
The Halloween season is a special time in Pokémon GO. Plenty of good stuff is coming to the game later this October, and we can't wait to get out and about to see what sort of excitement we can scare up while catching new Pokémon to fill out our Pokédex.
Stay tuned for more details about Pokémon GO's Halloween event coming soon!

Look at that promo image with Pokémon not in the game.
@BLP_Software Yeah I was about to say...>.>
Eh, whatever. goes back to MHXX/Stories
I still enjoy playing this whenever I go somewhere. I've finally gotten to the point where I'm actually useful at gyms. I didn't even know until a couple months ago that you got coins for defending gyms.
WTF is Pokémon Go?
I'd laugh so hard if a few of these ended up in US/UM. They probably won't, but it also seems like a waste to not have a Halloween Pikachu plush at the very least.
Haha, 2/10 Pokemon in that picture are actually in Pokemon GO.
Edit: Oh, someone already pointed that out.
I just wish it was a step tracker as well because I normally do cardio workouts inside (I'll start doing them outside soon, cause it's getting colder) and it doesn't track my steps... Only distance. I would be a much higher level if it had a step counter for a treadmill or something haha. But it is fun the few times I play it
Also Marshadow for Sun/Moon is now available via a code from 'selected retailers' but website fails to say who is selected.
@BLP_Software
The image comes from the story on the pokemon website about several holloween events happening in pokemon go and several other games.
@dew12333 @BLP_Software Yup. You can always buy pushes of all those from Pokemon Center.
Even though the image is clearly not specifically for Pokemon GO, if you look, the Pikachu ghost balloons are wearing orange and black hats, which is fairly strange considering they are already pretty halloween themed without them... so this could be something that they've added in to show what's on the way for Pokemon GO.
They've done something similar before when they've made a reference to catching new Pokemon and only added in an event hat Pikachu... so there's no need to start jumping to conclusions.
If they do add any new Pokemon in to the game, they still have two more gen 2 Pokemon that should be coming first... Smeargle (which they could add in for halloween), and Delibird (which would be perfect for adding in at Christmas).
Most likely, this event will just be something similar to last year's one where halloween themed Pokemon were more common, with gen 2 now adding even more Pokemon that could fit into the theme.
They could also do something similar to what they done with Unown in European cities, making certain letters more common, e.g. H, A, L, O, W, E, and N.
There's also the fact that we now have rare candy as an obtainable item... so they could use that to do a trick-or-treat sort of thing with Pokestops... e.g. trick - you get less items, treat - you get a rare candy.
There is quite a few different types of Pikachu in that picture.
Last go around didn't have the Gen2 creatures so that'll be something for people if they don't usually load in their own area.
I already have a million Gastly and Murkrow. Hopefully it will be more interesting than just more of them. And a Halloween Pikachu.
"You want Litten? Puh-leeze, you haven't the fully evolved Kanto trio yet!"
@Incarta
Murkrow is a dark-type pokémon, not ghost.
I remember last year Halloween event I spent my whole day off taking advantage of the Candy boost (2x Catch, Transfer, & Hatch, 4x Buddy) and the leg pain that followed. Highly doubt I'll do the same this year to that extent.
If only Niantic would update the game so that iOS 11 didn't completely nerf the Pokémon GO Plus.
@RodSD64 so? Surely dark types are Halloween-y too.
I've actually been playing Niantic's other game, Ingress, and have been having a great time. For one, it's actually a completed product. (Pokemon Go is still in beta.) There's nearby faction chat, and an actual strategy element to holding certain areas down.
Also, us Ingress players get to decide where your Poke Stops and gyms go. So be nice and we may just plop a few in your rural area.
Give us 1 rare candy for each catch! Everything else is worthless!
Release Gen 3 as the "Halloween Event".
Give Gardevoir a witch costume.
Do it.
The only thing that would get me back into Pokemon Go is some connection to the real Pokemon games. Some kind of reward system. Like if, when they bring Pokemon and PokeBank to the Switch you could send items or Pokemon to the new game next year or something...
Otherwise you can keep your "collect'em'all and do nothing with them" phone game.
