The original Splatoon was a game that received a healthy dosage of post-release support, with new maps, weapons, modes, and balancing tweaks being regularly delivered. Since Nintendo has pledged to support Splatoon 2 in a similar fashion, it comes as no surprise that the company has been already been quite proactive in tweaking the game as necessary.
Splatoon 2 version 1.1.2 is now available for download, and is required if you wish to continue playing the game online. Fortunately, it seems that the meal ticket glitch is still in effect, so those of you that have been exploiting that can exhale. The update just fixes a few other bugs and tweaks a whole wealth of weapons and how quickly they can access their specials. Here’s the full breakdown:
· An occasionally occurring issue allowed players to receive gear from the SplatNet Gear Shop with an unintended combination of gear abilities. The combination of abilities for this type of gear has been changed to match those of gear available for purchase in the Inkopolis Square shops.
· Fixed an issue that prevented ranking information from displaying properly when viewing “Past Records” for League Battle.
· Adjusted the number of points required to fill the special gauge for the following weapons:
Weapon |
Before ⇒ After |
Splat Dualies |
180⇒170 |
Hero Dualie Replicas |
180⇒170 |
Enperry Splat Dualies |
180⇒170 |
Tentatek Splattershot |
190⇒210 |
N-ZAP '85 |
180⇒200 |
.96 Gal |
180⇒210 |
Slosher |
180⇒190 |
Hero Slosher Replica |
180⇒190 |
Tri-Slosher |
180⇒210 |
Mini Splatling |
180⇒190 |

In before somebody says "in before..."
But in all seriousness, this game takes everything I loved about the first Splatoon and defines it to perfection. I'm glad to see them continue to work on balancing and other tweaks to make it even better.
So they buffed duelies... seems unnecessary...
@Rika_Yoshitake I agree. I use dualies all the time and they are a bit OP. I was expecting a nerf for those, not a buff.
Not too much of a difference but good to fix some issues, but I haven't had any.
After the update i tried playing 5 straight matches and i lost connectivity in every one of them and the game penalized me for it by putting cracks in my ranked meter
@tamantayoshi Same problem here. I'm unable to play for almost 2 days already. Not one match goes without a disconnect. Disappointing.
I didn't even realise the SplatNet gear thing was a bug. That's kind of disappointing as I liked the idea of being able to find alternatives of the same gear with different abilities. Also, my poor Slosher.
@BenAV I think it was just certain gear that had exclusive abilities like dodge roll on a shirt when it can only be found on shoes.
@yokokazuo Ah, if that's the problem then that's fine then.
Is that all? I swear they buffed the missiles.
Also it figures I start feeling really comfortable with the N-Zap 85 and they nerf it.
@Yasaal That bites, no point really buying the game if you can't play online.
Really feels like the splattershot pro got a buff
@tamantayoshi True. Especially if it's an online game first and foremost
I hope they find the sweet spot soon. I hate nerfs and buffs when they happen every couple of weeks (vain glory anybody?).
@Yasaal Hard reset your Switch and try resetting your router.
I can confirm that the exploit no longer works. I have 26 of tickets. I tried the exploit/cheat 3 times in a row and my count remained at 26. Times up.
@SwitchVogel But they go from 180 > 170
Doesn't that mean a nerf?
@TommyTLG You have to cover less terrain (from 180p to 170p) to use your special weapon.
So no, it's a buff.
No. It means less turf points needed for special to charge.
@TommyTLG
"@SwitchVogel But they go from 180 > 170
Doesn't that mean a nerf?"
@Spiders Resetting the router didn't work but hard reset? Do you mean literally switching it off by holding the power button? Because I've done that too and still no result. Looks like I'll have to quit Splatoon till this gets sorted out
I'm pretty sure the ticket glitch was patched
Finally got chance to play some of this last night (single-player) and it looks great. The 1080p resolution makes the graphics really crisp and lively.
So thats some pretty minor changes. I still dont know how i earn meal tickets, anyone?
Do their bonuses apply during turf wars and ranked play?
@Ignatius Before I read it I thought that was damage XD I thought the debuffed it. Before you laugh at me just know I am new to the game. When I say new I mean I started playing yesterday
This game is amazing but it's still a pain to play with friends online.
@bolt05 You get meal tickets through salmon run, and yes their bonuses can be used in normal and ranked matches.
Though you can only have one power at a time. Say you still have the effect for double experience for 10 more matches, and you want to eat something that gives you double money, you then lose your ten points for double experience, but they're replaced with the 20 points for double money.
It's a good idea to wait until you fully digest your food before eating more.
Seems like my Tentatek Splattershot got nerfed. Not a problem for me. I'm happy Tri-Slosher got a nerf as well since that's the weapon I'm most afraid of although it isn't due to the special.
Sloppiness! Not even a week old and it has an update. What did they do in the days before patches? That's right, they finished their games properly.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
It also meant that any problems which did slip through would remain forever... that glitched collectable in Space Station Silicon Valley springs to mind. Also, on-line games are different... they may need tweaking after being able to analyse the volume of play data which only a real release can bring.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE right, keep trying to fool yourself with that one. There are nearly endless of examples pointing out otherwise, but I don't have time to put them all here. One for example is skyward sword, where you can break your current save file by going to the ground areas (for the second time) in the wrong order. Technically there is a patch for that one, but it is not as easy as nowadays. Also just go looking at speedruns for old games (ocarina of time or mario 64 for example), games always have bugs and exploits.
What's this meal ticket glitch and how does (or did) it work?
@aesc Well I'm in the UAE (which is a problem in and of itself). My ISP is a well known company in the Middle East known as 'Etisalat' who presumably are the fastest internet providers in the region. I have a D Link router (something you might be Familiar with since it's also offered in the West.) I've tried it on my home WiFi only as I have no other option ATM. Splatoon 1 worked pretty much worse than the sequel but the problem is that the Switch worked perfectly until about 2 days ago when problems started happening. I played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe without connection problems and the same went to Splatoon 2 for the first few days. Sadly, issues are now present. My Tablet on the other hand, along with other devices at home work flawlessly as always. So I'm guessing this is Nintendo's fault...
@SanderEvers Ok I'll keep those companies in mind when I buy my next router. How do I change the channel to 10/11?
@Neon_Blues Thanks very much!
@bolt05 I forgot to mention, that when you get a bonus orb, there's a small counter located to the left outside of Grizzco, that kind of looks like a grocery store checkout counter, and you ask for your bonuses.
NOW you're ready to eat!
Have fun!
@essiw He posts moaning comments on almost every article. Just ignore.
@NinjaBadger I know it is just that I have seen that particular argument way to often to ignore it, as others may think it is true.
I thought buying unique gear was the point of SplatNet gear, and was pretty into it. So that's an unfortunate change.
Thought maybe they'd make the tenta missles lock-on process a bit easier...maybe it's just me.
And cheering the Zapper Nerf...those are my #1 cause of being splatted!
@essiw @Ooyah I'm not saying that you can't have patches and that they aren't beneficial. But if you need one within a week of release then you haven't done your job very well or tested the game thoroughly.
@Ignatius To be fair, you don't really see people say "in before" much these days in first post. That may partially be because I keep snagging it though.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Some things are just hard to predict until you get half a million people playing the game.
The dualies of all things did NOT need a buff. Seriously, those things are kind of hax, and the only thing keeping them balanced are the lack of range and power behind them (compared to many other weapons anyway). I'm not nearly as proficient with the Dualies as I am with the Luna Blaster, but if I can get up to 18 kills in a single match with a beginner weapon you start with - there's something seriously wrong there.
Unless I've forgotten how to read, the Dualies went from 180 to 170 damage..... How the heck is that a buff, like half the comments are saying? They are DEFINITELY overpowered, though. Glad to see them taken down a peg.
EDIT: I DID forget how to read, and they DID get a small buff. What even?
@MarioPhD Those numbers don't refer to damage. They represent the amount of turf required for one to cover before their special is activated. So, in reality, the dualies got a small buff.
@Vegeta937 That..... Is insane. Huh. Good to know!
I imagine the dualies got buffed due to the lack of power and range, i.e. they ink less so it makes sense they need to ink less to read their special. Weapons that ink a lot like the slosher now need more points to get the special. Why are people saying this is unfair/the end of the world...
Took advantage of the meal ticket glitch before updating it this morning, only the exp one though since I'm only up to the 3rd hub world. Kind of messed up since I mainly woke up earlier to play Salmon Run before going to work. Only enough time to play 3 game but them's the breaks.
@tamantayoshi @Yasaal Hmm, I've been blaming my internet...I DO have internet issues going on right now, and got some DCs the prior night as well, but last night the DCs were really bad. I would disconnect most rounds, I'd get to play maybe one or two (where I lost) and then DC again. And the game kept threatening to punish me with a ban. Thankfully it never did. But it was just TW for now, so I don't know fi it's me or the patch.
It popped up when I was playing last night and I foolishly was like OMG maybe they added some normal voice chatting...really limiting my fun that I can't public random chat in groups to coordinate in-game.
@Yasaal that sucks man! If you can put your Switch in a DMZ on your network, or maybe get a LAN adapter. The Wii ones are compatible and pretty cheap.
Hope this helps.
Liking the dualies buff as those are my main weapon. Hope the splat umbrella is the next update.
Wait, what? The differing main abilities in the Splatnet2 shop were not intended? I actually liked that!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE obviously you do not play many retro games, they were filled with exploits and glitches we just didn't look for them.
Watch some speed running of retro games, lots of things used to speed run a game that we didn't know about when we were 8 or 9 playing them
Games also were barely online before patches so we didn't have stability or connecting issues.
this game has exceeded my expectations. so happy with it....[sneaks off to google "meal ticket glitch"]
@SLIGEACH_EIRE the original usa release of zelda lttp on gba has an npc that doesnt work so that quest cant be completed. It was fixed in time for the eur and Aus releases. At least now we can get bug fixes. Cartridges didnt allow this. I think dlc is the worse issue. But the market works this out and bad dlc ultimately wont generate much revenue. So even this is a limited issue.
I see you deleted your message, I got the alert. You re-read my message and realised I was correct?
@bolt05
"dude it takes less time now to get your special. This is a buff. Nerf would be taking more time to get your special."
@aesc @Spiders Ok thanks. I'll see what I can do...
when's the shotgun brella comin out?!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE dude give it a rest. Even I don't despise New Nintendo that much.
@BornInNorway81 No I realised I had responded (hit reply) to the wrong person's post and my answer was previously given by someone else.
