Peripherals manufacturer Snakebyte has revealed that it is releasing a new Switch control solution in the form of the Wireless Game:Pad Pro.
Described as a "professional grade controller" for Nintendo's console, it boasts the "precision control of an authentic console game pad, without sacrificing the ease of connectivity and low-latency enjoyed by Switch owners."
High-quality analog thumbsticks and a digital D-pad are also included, while rumble is handled by dual-vibration motors which deliver "enhanced haptic feedback for the complete gaming experience." There's also a screen capture button and Turbo function, but no mention is made of any NFC capabilities. Power is supplied by an internal rechargeable battery.
A wired version of the controller is also expected, and both will launch this Fall. Are you tempted, or will you be sticking with the Pro Controller?

More options are a good thing. Unless it's somehow cheaper than the pro controller though, I will not need it.
Not sure I like the design either, it kinda looks really bulky.
Why are +, - and Home pretty much underneath the controller? And half D-pad half buttons like a PS controller doesn't rest well with me either...
That d-pad looks uncomfortable as hell, the +/- are located in very bad locations, and the form factor of the shell looks vaguely uncomfortable..
I'll stick with my Pro controller.
Wait, wait.. the top picture shows it using a PS-style analogs-at-bottom design, while the two renders show it using the Pro-style. Which actually IS it?
Still think it's too flawed, though.
Anyone explain what is 'turbo' mode? And what use does it have? Seems completely useless. I'll stick with my Pro Controller no thank you. No NFC compatibility and no HD rumble anyway
@Firehawke Lmao good catch. That is very odd. Maybe they're offering two different designs? I highly doubt it though.
Does it support gyro motion controls or not?
It actually looks pretty sweet. If build quality is good, and if memory serves SB has made good controllers in the past, then it might be worth a grab. I wonder what the price point will be?!? $50's too much, $30 may mean cheap parts. $40 would be the sweet spot.
The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is a beautiful thing. I don't think I would ever need an alternative.
Snakebytes stuff is pretty good, I'll probably just get this for the novelty of design, what I'm curious of is when are we getting 3rd party joycons?
@Yasaal From what I remember back in the gamecube days, Turbo mode was basically like a spam button mode. I remember having an old capcom game called Gotcha Force (god do I miss it) and you can rapid fire by holding the button whilst turbo was activated. Some games didn't have a hold to fire button by default so turbo was a way to force that mechanic even if it wasn't built into the game.
The lack of a single cross-shaped d-pad makes this an automatic ignore for me.
And it's got the stereotypical gamer red highlights.
I see this being $80, if not more.
If it's descent, I'd like it as a 2nd joystick I can pick up on the cheap.
On my own opinion: It's nice to have options. Some people like to use Nintendo's style of D Pad and other people don't. There's not really anything worth complaining about when all it is, is giving more people their own unique ways of playing a game.
Some people play very different to the way I play and it surprises me. So I don't think there's any issue with a controller that offers that for those who aren't comfortable with the default.
@Kyranosaurus Yep, Turbo goes back to at least the NES days where some third-party controllers had it. It would be useful on Blaster Master Zero where many bosses can actually be killed before they have time to do anything at all if you're fast enough with the button mashing and know the right weapon to use.
The dpad buttons are extremely off-putting. Glad I have a Switch pro controller and an NES30 8bitdo controller.
Looks like ass.. guess I'll wait n see what Razer end up making (only qualm about the official Cro Controller is that there's no headset / mic input.. would've been pretty cool)
@Hikingguy WiiU pro shoulda been Backwards Compatty with Switch. But Nintendo wants us to overpay for a new Controller. HD Rumble meh... it shoulda included a headphone jack. Smh
People are talking about the bottom home, plus and minus buttons being an issue but it's really not. Button layouts only become an issue when your thumb cant discern what it's pressing or what it can't reach without holding the controller weirdly.
A bad controller in my experience is the PS4 controller. I can never pause the game properly without looking down at the controller because the Options button is so close to the touchpad and face buttons that I press those by accident instead. In this case, My thumbs could easily reach where those bottom buttons are located. I mean it's already shaped like the default Pr controller so I'm literally testing it right now.
So many questions . . . .
1. Like Firehawk said, which is the actual design (Pic 1 or Pic2/3)?
2. Cost?
3. Quality? (Oupshroom7 weighed in, otherwise I'm unfamiliar with Snakebyte)
Checked their website, and this is identical to their Android VR controller. The standard 3 Android buttons are along the bottom, which is why the -/+ are there too. Although, strangely, this controller also has select/start in standard locations, which probably double as -/+ anyway. I would've expected the screenshot button down there next to home myself.
Meh, Pro controller is perfect....
A left joy con with a quality D-Pad, this is all I want. 8bitdo are good but it's no help on the bus.
Probably for the low low price of £199....
The Pro controller will do me, thanks. Looks nice though!
I like that more control options are coming, but I'm not too crazy about the + and - button placement. I suppose if the price is fair though I'll consider it.
Just not feeling it; the design is ugly and it looks cumbersome to hold. Also, even if it's cheaper than the actual pro controller I would still pay the extra to get that Nintendo quality.
Here's hoping SCUF make one
they take the pro controller
and put there added touches to it
make a better d-pad
and put analouges on the back
NOW YOUR TALKIN!!
Looks god aweful...
"but no mention is made of any NFC capabilities."
They know like the rest of us that SCamiibo are as good as dead. No point hiking the price up for redundant technology.
There's something wrong with those photos. They look like prototypes. Snakebyte's official site have no mention of this controller or photos. I think this PR has been leaked prematurely.

I got the splat pro controller at launch, and I'm very very satisfied with it.. I'm good
I would think it would be so awesome if somebody would make a switch version of the original Wii U Pro controller. I like the right stick placement a little better.
@Danrenfroe2016 Me too. But they had to change the placement so that both Joy-Cons were somewhat symmetrical.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE yes. But I think they should have left the Pro controller with it still the other way. But it's not too bad I guess. No nothing I still have not even touched the new Pro Controller physically LOL. But I really love my Wii U Pro controller
Lol, how dare they call it a "Professional grade controller" when it doesn't even have a d-pad? That's ridiculous.
What's the price? Don't know if I'm tempted until I see what it retails for vs a Switch Pro controller
The switches pro controller may be my favorite controller of recent memory. Don't really know why anyone would want a professional grade controller on switch because more than likely games that would benefit from an elite style controller aren't coming to the system. I kind of feel like voice chat is pointless as well for the same reasons. It's not like nintendo is going into the cod business. I'm more tempted to buy those retro controllers, but to each their own I guess. Option are still great for those who want them.
I'd buy it if it had remappable buttons or paddles under the controller. I have the Elite controller for my Xbone and I got my PS4 controller modded to add buttons on the bottom. Being able to jump or reload without having to take your thumb off the analog stick is really nice.
Looks nice. I need to eventually pick up a Pro controller
I think it looks cool, but I'm still more inclined to buy first party.
@FX102A
You clearly haven't tried a PS4 controller. This Dpad is practically identical, and the PS4 Dpad is one of the best on the market.
looks ugly as sin. & uncomfortable with the angles on the grips.
seriously looks like some throw back from 20 years ago
All three of the pictures show the same controller, the first picture just shows it from an angle that is hard to gauge how far the bottom joystick is. If you take a second look after me saying this it should be apparent
I think I will end up picking this up as a secondary controller, neat idea.
@JaxonH Own it, tried it, passable at best. It could have had the PS Vita's amazing d-pad and it was ruined when Sony decided to listen to regular joes instead of their trained designers.
This looks awful for so many reasons. Official pro controller all the way.
@Anguspuss Yeah it looks like a madkatz or some other bogus 3rd party attempt. Poor.
@JaxonH Split D-pads are useless.
@Zoda_Fett That's my next purchase I think. Bought the Splatoon 2 bundle but the joycon split dpad just doesn't cut it.
@Samus7Killer It is not just about HD rumble, but also about the motion controlls.
The Wii U pro controller simply wouldn't be fully compatible because of that.
And I don't think they want to repeat much of the "you can play this game only with this and that controller, but not with the other one" stuff.
The + and - buttons below seem strange to me. I mean they are there on the front as well, in form of the start and select buttons? Am I missing something?
@The_Mysteron
Might as well say round buttons are useless. Makes no sense whatsoever. Being split makes not a split of difference. In fact, it enhances the use with how it tapers and slopes down toward the middle.
Your thumb never touches the center of the Dpad in any circumstance. So it doesn't matter if it's split, connected, or has a pinwheel spinning in the center. What matters is the actual buttons protruding from the center.
@nate907 It is not the same controller on the first picture.
It doesn't even seem to have the power button like the others, in general the center of the front does not look like on the other pictures. Furthermore, on the first picture appear to be analog buttons which, unless they know something we don't, would be useless. Then there is a completely different D-Pad... There are several other little details that just do not line up between the pictures as well.
Oooh i like this very much! I have been seriously missing led lighting in my buttons. I know battery life byt i have crap eyesight and i like the little light or the whole thing is very black and dark.
@Firehawke ahh i missed the bad dpad. What a bugger it looked great until you pointed that out i hadn't noticed.
Looks like the OnLive controller, if anyone remembers that lol
The controller in the first picture is different from the controllers in the last 2 pictures.
If you're going to introduce a new controller, it better offer something different. Something unique (to first party controllers). I SEE nothing unique about this one. If it were a fight pad or something else specifically purposed, I'd be excited. I suppose only a good 'ol hardware review will tell.
That said, I LOVE my Pro Controller.
@Kirgo
perhaps im the one who needs to take a second look at the pictures! Thank you for pointing that out!
I think ill stick with Hori's. The design is far from great, I dont like the red accents it makes it look like a $10 USB pad. The buttons namely the D pad look wrong.
@Kyranosaurus That doesn't sound professional... Looks like it was made for spammers XD
@SLIGEACH_EIRE "They know like the rest of us that SCamiibo are as good as dead. No point hiking the price up for redundant technology."
What will you say if this ends up being just as expensive as/more expensive than Nintendo's Pro controller even without NFC functionality?
seasons aren't capitalized.
@JaxonH It does make a huge difference when you have to slide quickly between the different directions on the D pad. If the buttons are seperated then the edges of the buttons cause pain on your thumb over long periods. The reason other manufacturers don't use cross shaped D pads is because Nintendo own the patent.
@The_Mysteron
That's simply not true. As a PS4 owner since launch, I can assure you it's just as easy if (If not more so) to use the PS4 d-pad that is exactly like this.
And I have no idea what you're talking about with pain on your thumb. Have you ever seen a PS4 controller? There is no sharp edge. It tapers down gradually. There is no "edges".
And btw, that patent is long expired, and yet people continue to follow the design of PS4 because it's amazing and works 10 times better than a Switch Pro controller.
