Nintendo is banking on ARMS to be its next big-hitting new IP, and a title to utilise the various capabilities of the Joy-Con controllers. A potentially unique spin on multiplayer and motion gaming, the big N will be giving it a pitch in an upcoming Nintendo Direct - or 'ARMS Direct' - on 17th May.
It's taking place on 17th May at 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern / 11pm UK / midnight CEST, with the announcement below.
The press release doesn't go any further, like the tweet above it promises a 'deep dive' into the game, and as you can see it'll end with a new trailer for Splatoon 2.
As always we'll be hosting the stream with a live blog and chat here on Nintendo Life. Are you looking forward to this ARMS Direct?

More information inbound! W00t! Hoping to learn more about the kick system since that seems to function as your blocks.
I hope that Nintendo knocks it out of the park with this one.
No pun intended.
Seriously though, I'm not entirely convinced on ARMS yet, so I think a good direct could be just what's needed to get me excited.
ugh
Smart pairing it with the Splatoon trailer. Should bring some people to it that remain skeptical of Arms.
They need to hit this out of the park. I'm on the fence but like Splatoon the more and more I see the better it looks to the point I bought it and never looked back. Really hoping for another homerun!
So ARMS isn't going to take up much time at E3 then? And Splatoon probably won't either?
Interesting....
Darn, not the Direct I was hoping for.. Oh well, maybe there will be other tidbits amongst the Arms and Spla2n info.
I don't think anybody really cares about this game.
Hype!
@Boyoshi I should've read your post before I posted basically the same thing lol!
I hope this direct means they don't have to show anything about arms on E3. I already have it preordered but i hope to see more new games.
I'm more excited for the new Splatoon trailer to be honest, though it will definitely be nice to have some more information about ARMS.
I'm getting a Switch when this comes out so I'm excited! There's going to be a lot of triggered Pokemon fans tho (unless another Direct is announced)
The more directs the better. But this was a surprise to me with e3 less than a month away.
@LeRaposa are you kidding? It's on most switch owner's radars right now, its the next big release
They're really pushing this thing aren't they?
I will be playing this a Lot! - ( it will help me keep fit lol )
Meh. Not my cup of tea but I'm sure some people will like these.
The game is made by the Mario Kart team,it being top quality is guaranteed.I look forward to reading all the comments from the naysayers when the reviews come in.
Not the type that likes the one (or two I suppose in this case?) game Direct thing. Still, more info is nice, I guess. Especially for Splatoon 2.
@gardevoir7
Shouldn't they? Nintendo is lacking Esport/competetive games and this could be, together with Splatoon 2, a nice addition.
With E3 in less than a month, this decision is very interesting. Maybe the Splatoon 2 and ARMS focus at E3 are the tournaments and not Treehouse Live. If that's the case either Nintendo has a lot of unannounced games or they're planning on pulling a E3 2016 with Super Mario Odyssey.
I am ready
Sadly, 2 games I have absolutely no interest in. Hope the next Direct is more to my liking.
Not gonna stay up until midnight for this but great nonetheless!
I liked ARMS when first shown in January, and I like it more for every trailer.
Wow, short notice, even if it's more than 24 hours away.
Will watch it after it airs, need my beauty sleep.
My word I predicted it right again! Well then, it looks like I can comfortably predict months which will have Directs ^_^
Sweet. I'll watch when I get home
Also, Items were confirmed to be in ARMS. carried in by a little drone. It looked cute
This game gets me more hyped than Splatoon2!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Same for me. I hope it sells well because I'm always rooting for Nintendo to be successful but I will be sitting this game out.
That's awesome! I can't wait to see more about the game. Hopefully they show some single player.
It does look like a fun game, but genre-wise it just isn't my cup of tea. Now, if it were more like a brawler in the vein of say Bouncer and the likes, then it would certainly have my full attention.
Good move. Game needs it. Announce a demo please!
Also looking forward to the Splatoon 2 trailer.
@Grumblevolcano That's a bit of a jump in logic there.
@JHDK I liked Splatoon but eventually grew tired of it. The sequel looks like a remix. ARMS, I don't know what it is, it looks nice but it's just not appealing. It's games like Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade 2 that interest me.
I've already pre-ordered Arms and am committed to buying it, it looks like a lot of fun. Same with Splatoon 2, of course. Surprised to see another Direct focusing on them but I'm not complaining.
Meeehhh.
This game looks fun to play, but it's boring as hell to watch.
30 hours notice? TT gave a weeks notice for the new Lego game trailer by showing a teaser trailer yesterday, somebody needs to define the word "hype" to Nintendo. The rate they do these things might as well just put it up on YouTube without any advance warning at all.
Glad to see this before E3. I think a few people above are confused about how this affects E3. Nintendo isn't doing this to skimp on ARMS at E3, they are doing this to build hype for the ARMS tournament at E3. Same for Splatoon 2. Both are going to be a very large part of their overall E3 coverage.
ARMS isn't really my type of game, I don't play fighters, but I don't play online shooters either and Splatoon sucked me in for over 150 hours. I think ARMS can do fairly well, fighting games are huge - Injustice, Marvel vs Capcom, SF, Tekken, MK - but they need to make it work as well with buttons as motion. Motion seems like fun, but for serious online competition it needs the accuracy only buttons can bring. I think that's what this ND is going to focus on, that it can be played with both motion and buttons.
EDGE magazine practically wetting themselves about ARMS!
Coolio. Hopefully there's a lot more to this game that Nintendo is going to show off in full tomorrow.
@MrGawain That's kinda exciting though. Unless it's going to be ALL about Mario Odyssey...
@Spoony_Tech Meh it's all good man I don't mind.
Played at an event and it was a lot of fun! Maybe a demo would be a viable option to garner interest.
I just hope it has the legs to go the distance.....
@G0dlike Ha.
I can't imagine a boxing game could stay interesting for long, but we'll have to see. I doubt it'll be my kind of game, though.
Does ARMS have an online component? Would be better to talk about the paid online now and get it out of the way rather than at E3. No matter how good of a deal it may be telling people they need to pay to play Splatoon 2 is still bad news no matter how they spin it. All I've read so far is that it's free until fall. And voice chat is done on smartphones.
So if ARMS has any of that, now is the time to get it out there.
Looking forward to it. I decided to give the game a chance. Still it wont hurt if the direct convinces me even more.
Glad they are getting this in before E3. Maybe this is a sign that 3rd party games will have a good bulk of coverage along side Mario.
oh give me a break
@rjejr I think online is confirmed for 1vs1, not sure about the other modes. In any case, they'll surely address that info in this Direct.
I probably won't get either of these games. I tried Splatoon, but it wasn't for me. ARMS looks cool too, but again, not for me.
I certainly hope there's some decent gameplay behind that art style that looks like a rainbow threw up all over the characters. I'd enjoy a decent new boxing style game.
7 characters so far with 4 unconfirm isn't bad for the first entry imo. Also I think this coming out after the reviews of Way of the Hado is quite cool since now Nintendo has the opportunity to show ARMS isn't Way of the Hado mode in Street Fighter 2.
Wait, What ?!
Tomorrow at 11 pm UK time = 18 May 2017, 6 am for West Indonesia Zone ?
@MrGawain I was thinking that. What could they have that are getting ARMS/Splatoon 2 out of the way?
@crackafreeze same here. Im excited.
@TheAceofMystery for instance, I know at least 10 people with a switch and not a single one of them have mentioned ARMs. Some didn't even know it was a thing.
It's not on most people's radar.
@gatorboi352
ARMS is on my radar and some of peoples here.
Don't act there are nobody care with ARMS.
It will jab your negativity about Nintendo, you know...
Hopefully this means we wont hear much from them during the E3 Spotlight. Splatoon is Splatoon, show me some new single player and im fine. As for Arms, I think I really have to play it before I know if I want it. They spent a lot of time on it during the last direct and I really didn't care. It just is not in my opinion a fun game to watch, maybe because the behind the character view point does not suit being a spectator
@gatorboi352 I'm armed and ready to go. Definitely on my radar.
@Anti-Matter dude, let's be honest. Anything Nintendo is on your radar. And yeh, I'm sure it's on people's radars that frequent this Nintendo-fan site. But outside the bubble some of you live in, ARMs is really not significant.
Great news! I'm still on the fence, so I hope that this Direct convinces me that the game is a worthy purchase (or otherwise).
Wonder if we are gonna get some headlines too...
DLC:
@gatorboi352
Just wait and see...
I believe the radar will be expanded...
Soon it will jab, hook your persistence.
Meh. Hopefully it sells
Maybe new Amiibo will be announced? If they make them posable like the Guardian, that would be pretty cool...
@MrGawain
Doesn't Arms come out 2 days after E3? Maybe they think it would be too late to make some major reveal for the game? I could see them focusing more on Arms in the treehouse segment.
(along with the tournament they're hosting)
Not even sure how much I'm thinking about getting this, was really hoping to get a better direct before e3 instead it's wasted on this game, especially I think most would love to know what's going on with virtual console before e3. They need to just release a demo for it I think that will make up a lot of peoples minds if they are interested in it fully or not.
Curious to see how controls in USF2's "Way of the Hado" can be so bad, but work well in Arms. Of course, Nintendo is going to be the best at programming for their hardware.
@Jessica286
I wonder if there's been space made for 3rd party games? Seeing they're both getting tourneys they make sense to be taken out of the main presentation to make space I guess.
@Dakt Same.
I need to see more of this before I'll even consider purchasing it. Primarily, I'm curious what the single-player campaign looks like.
Oh, and I know it's pointless, but I'll chime in with the obligatory: "hope we hear something about Etrian Odyssey V during the Direct!"
@Dizzard
Agreed, but it they do seem like the sort of tent pole games you would want to build a presentation around...
...unless you have something else now to show?
@LeRaposa "You don't think anybody really cares about this game." You've done a research around the globe?
@gatorboi352 The game not being on folks radar is to be expected.It's a new IP and relatively little is still known about it.The game releases the day after E3 ends which will definitely help.It's the Switch's first real exclusive so it's going to be getting a huge push from Nintendo.That combined with good reviews and the game should find success.
It's impressive that you know 10 people with a Switch.How many do you know had a Wii U?I only knew one,my nephew and I chipped in to buy it for him haha
@Grumblevolcano Of those two scenarios I think the first one makes a lot more sense. I know Nintendo have made some very questionable decisions (if not downright stupid) through the years, but to do a direct a month before E3 to show off some new stuff so you're not able to show it off at E3 seems too stupid even by Nintendo's standard.
Crossing my fingers for a demo - the time feels right. Crossing them again for the demo to include Min Min.
Great news!
@gatorboi352 as opposed to nothing being on your radar and being here for your daily troll, so whatever.
@PixelViking64 Arms releases the day after E3 ends. Kinda need to work on advertising before E3. It needs attention.
@rjejr I agree that Nintendo would do well to start the reveal of the online plan before E3. You don't want that being the discussion during E3 unless it's so good that it will get people excited to pay for it... and I don't think Nintendo is in that kind of position. Maybe a chunk of this direct will get things started.
Ok, predictions:
1. Arms will have a fair bit more to show in terms of multiplayer features and modes. We know there are a few more characters to come so we'll likely get a good look at them. It will also have a substantial single player with a strong story, and an interesting world and background.
2. A fairly substantial U.I improvement for Switch including themes - MK, Zelda, Arms, Splat, Mario, Fire Emb.
3. Further details on online service - features, voice chat, trail launch date - in time for Arms - to get everyone to jump onto it before Splatoon.
4. Splatoon will have some further surprises with multiplayer relating to the Salmon Run level and a really cool looking single player campaign which will have some sort of dynamic effect on the multiplayer side.
5. A cheeky tease for E3 - a big game or V.C - Gamecube.
Too much too soon?
Interested in watching this but why did they make the directs happen hour later compared to last year
Day one.
Not going to bother watching this one live but may have a flick through after. I wasn't massively fussed about Arms until Edge magazine got so excited about it. On my radar now.
I keep saying, this game needs a demo to demonstrate the motion controls so people can decide it they like how it feels.
I hope they announce one during the direct.
Just a trailer? Aww man... Well, as long as there's some new content shown off...
@LeRaposa I don't know about that. The preorders in Japan are in line with the original splatoon.
This is cool. I'm still not convinced about arms or it's $60 retail status. Here's hoping they showcase the (awesome?) single player campaign in this direct. If it's got single, I'm sold.
@Grumblevolcano I was thinking the same thing. This much focus on Arms in its own direct, this close to E3 means they're not going to be spending as much time on it at E3 as I would have thought. Which surprises me a lot since that's release week. They have the tournament, but I still expected excess coverage at E3 on Arms. They WILL still showcase it heavily, but that might mean it's all Mario + the lesser known titles? Treehouse will have a lot of 3DS...or 2DS I imagine but the Spotlight is all Switch...so if it's not Arms and Splatoon, and I'm certain it's not all Mario...that means at best we're in for some surprises and a 2018 preview, or at worst we're in for more depth on Xenoblade, SMT, DQ11, Skyrim, etc that we've barely heard a peep about.
@gatorboi352 I suspect (as long as it's good) Arms will be one of those games with a long-tail sales arc. It's not going to blow the doors off a GameStop midnight launch and be all the rage like a typical "major release", but I think it will have slow to modest sales, by the next AGM, but NOT actually slow significantly in sales afterward and rack up it million+ seller status over the full lifespan of Switch. The kind of game that a lot of people that buy a Switch, even late in the life cycle want to buy and try out. Of course Nintendo tends to prefer the long-tail "evergreen" sales, while news sites will race to post "disappointing sales 2 months in."
@jwfurness Anyone that's tried Arms at the demo kiosks has come away saying they control extremely well (there's a few around the forum here), so I chalk that up to Capcom neither knowing nor caring how poorly they quickly threw in the Arms me-too mode into their 20+ year old fighter
I think I'll sit out on this one, but I'll look forward to reading any interesting coverage!
@NEStalgia I'm glad to hear it. USF2 is looking pretty cobbled together as a whole, so I'm not too surprised to hear that the controls are unresponsive.
Someone has probably already said it above but I suspect that an ARMS demo will release straight after this direct. Even if it is just the build that they used at the public reveal events it would still get more people interested.
I didn't think much of it before playing it, Wii Sports Boxing in mind, and I came away extremely impressed. It took a few games to click but once it did it became second nature to move, jump and throw punches.
It is definitely a game that is easier to sell by getting people to actually play it. I am looking forward to it.
They already had a Direct showcasing this. Maybe it is to announce a demo.
@readyletsgo Yeah same. Let's hope Nintendo's E3 rectifies that!
I'll give it a watch, but I can't see myself getting too excited about Arms without giving it a try first. Who knows, maybe the Direct will wow me and change my tune.
Not a huge fan of Directs with no new announcements, but I'll take what I can get.
Truth be told, I'm cautiously optimistic about Arms.
@LeRaposa And yet I bet it sells a million copies. It's early on enough that this game will do better now then if it released 2 years from now in a crowd.
@WaveBoy How have you been doing? Haven't seen a post from you in ages!
Of course Arms is going to be a hit. What else is it competing with when it is released? I personally cannot wait. One of my favourite beat em ups ever was Heavyweight Champ (1987) by Sega. For those who are unfamiliar, it controlled by holding two levers that you could push and the top half of the cabinet swivelled. So you could effectively (for the time) mimic the movement of jabs, hooks and uppercuts. The game was wonderfully meaty. Arms looks like it will remove the chunkiness of the heavy cabinet and be more fluid.
I really hope they announce an arms bundle
I'm sorry, but I absolutely NEED to play a demo of this before I could even consider buying. I can't just rely on videos and written accounts. That's just how I feel about the gameplay.
I am curiously optimistic about this title, it reminds me of games gone by that I've loved...and seems to capture a certain vibe that I like.
@aaronsullivan "will get things started"
You know me I'm always impatient for new info, but I do think paid online, no matter how cheap and who many games they give away with it, is still going to come across as negative. People might even start bringing up only marginally related things - like why are we paying for online on a system that doens't even have the typical online apps like a web browser and Netflix? Not sure if you know this, but Xbox360 required a paid Gold subscription to get Netflix, so in essence you were kind of paying twice. You don't need to now though, not sure when they changed it.
And then of course there's the voice chat, which at the moment seems to require a smartphone, but you have to pay Ntinedo to play online. Still wrapping my head around that one. Don't think you would need voice chat for fighting in ARMS but maybe there's a social hub to meet up? I really need to watch this ND, I have no idea.
Just had a thought. Ntinedo being Ntinedo I wonder if they'll say you need paid online for Spla2oon and ARMS but still not talk about it beyond that? They really should bring it up, I'm still curious if it's yearly only or monthly like both MS and Sony offer?
Tomorrow seems like the perfect time. Though I also thought before MK8D came out would be the perfect time. In a few months if people have to start paying to play MK8D online there could be a backlash. "Thanks for purchasing MK8D for $60, if you want to keep playing it online that's $40 per year please." There's simply no way to keep that entire message positive.
@aaronsullivan I know. That's kind of what I was getting at. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
@MarcelRguez "I think online is confirmed for 1vs1"
I thought I'd read that, but it's Nintendo, so who knows. Hopefully they'll actually talk about online tomorrow and not just show gameplay.
@rjejr Well really complaints for paid online in general will be negative when talking on online forums.
A good chunk of gamers that comment online have access to Steam, where most games have free online. And frankly none of these paid online services really holds a candle to a free service.
That's not going to stop the console makers from charging for online though since there's always going to be someone supporting the paid online services.
This nor Splatoon are my cup of tea, but they would be if I was about 20 years younger though. Nonetheless, I'm pulling for Splatoon to continue being a breakout success, and I'm hoping ARMS can jump in as well. Nintendo needs more new AND successful IPs on top of their usual catalog.
Bring it on my dudes! ARMS has some serious vibes!
can you imaging they show pokemon gen 4 remakes and then with stars
Yes! Knew there would be an Arms Direct, E3 made me lose some hope, but nope! I'm glad there's this
@rjejr
Doesn't matter. The only reason people will be paying is because they see others charging and can get away with it. The only thing we're getting for our money is a voice chat app which ensures we can talk during games. Maybe it's worth 20 bucks a year to some people and to others it's not, but losing online play is definitely not worth saving $20, so people will pay it regardless and they'll get over it a day later because it's only 20 bucks. Nobody is happy about it but it is what it is and it's the price of admission now. And people will accept it, at least the people who play online will because nobody is going to forfeit their online play to keep 20 bucks a year.
People here will complain and vent their anger, but the vast majority of people will just shrug their shoulders and grab an annual membership card off the Target rack. And the rest will do the same even if they're muttering complaints under their breath.
Btw you get my message? Persona 5 man. I beg you to listen to reason here... I beg you. Forget Final Fantasy XV. I must have been on drugs that day. FFXV has got nothing on Persona 5. We're talking Lost Odyssey/Last Story levels of epic turn based gameplay... and beyond. Beyond because it's every bit as good- equally as good, but 100x more modern and high dollar budget with immaculate voice acting... it's the single greatest turn based traditional RPG I've ever played. Zelda levels of awesomeness.
@rjejr
Btw, go grab Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on that shiny new Xbox One you bought. On sale for just $4.99 and $6.24 respectively, and both are Sakaguchi greats. $11 for the pair, don't hesitate!
Blue Dragon

Lost Odyssey

I think once we all get to play it for a while arms will be really cool.
About time, this game desperately needs to show more content before launch.
@NEStalgia
"I suspect (as long as it's good) Arms will be one of those games with a long-tail sales arc."
Hit the nail on the head.
Almost all successful new IPs released early in a platform's lifecycle, don't land on the market with explosive sales. They start slow, but maintain solid legs.
For example, the first Splatoon sold a mere 140,000 at launch in Japan. It ended up selling over 1.5 million copies in Japan, making it the best selling Wii U game in the country.
I'm happy there's a Direct tomorrow focusing on these two games because I don't really want to see them at E3. They need more games shown at E3. ARMS looks interesting, but I was not fond of the announcer last Direct.
@WaveBoy Been good, Zach and I just mentioned today your famous Swapnote pics lol! Can never forget them!
@WaveBoy I haven't seen him in forever. Glad you seem to be doing well. I know you have your ups and downs.
One thing's for sure - we're going to need more than six characters to start.
I'm also interested to see if a Smash Bros Deluxe announcement gobbles up all the ARMS hype at E3.
@JaxonH Funny thing about your message - I got a pop-up tab thing on my Android tablet saying I had a message on my PS4 from you. So I clicked on it and the PS4 Sony app opened, and there was a 1 next to the notice thing at top. So I clicked on that, and it said I had to download the PSN Messenger app or some such, and I decided that was way too much work, I would just check your message on the PS4. So I got on the PS4 and I couldn't find your message. So I decided I would find you on here or PS eventually and ask you about it.
I don't think people would not pay for online, it's not about that, it's about what message is presented at E3. Does Ntineod want everybody talking about Mario, or do they want everybody debating whether the paid online cost too much? Not too many people would say $20/yr is too much, but do you really think they'll do $20 per year? That's less than $2 per month, might as well keep it free at that rate, not worth the credit card service fee. Sony and MS are $60, Nintnedo can do $40 and still undersell them.
But whatever it costs, they shouldn't announce it at E3 and have it be a distraction. Remember that tirade you went on a few days ago about MyNintnedo. Well fo rme it wouldn't be a tirade, barely a hiccup, btu for you it seemed like a tirade. And the trolls were STILL giving you a hard time about defending Ntineod?!?!? It was surreal, you really do bring out the nutters. Anyway, best to just tell people about the yearly online fee tomorrow, get it over w/, then not worry about it at E3.
Thinking about Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, remembered your recommendations. My only concern is will I play them before I trade in my X1 for a Switch Black Friday? I still have so many Rare Replay games to play, and I just bought Sunset Overdrive for $8 new at Target. And I still haven't seen what my library has, free weekly rentals. Persona or Disagea 5, whichever one you mentioned, is a no. All those games look the same to me.
Gotta go read your other email, I'll be back.
@JaxonH Oops, never-mind, guess I already read it.
@Captain_Gonru over/under
Honestly, I've never been too good at over/under. Or horse racing odds, they always seem backwards. But the odds are more likely I trade in the X1 than the NX was a home console powered by AMD and a separate handheld powered by DMP.
I'd say 75% I trade it in. E3 will be telling. The biggest factor right now I'd say is Scorpio. If Gamestop expects a flood of X1 for trade for Scorpio they'll drop the price to almost nothing so I'll be stuck w/ it. I have a $100 threshold, I won't go lower than that. I'm hoping the 1TB keeps my model in demand. Barring that I still have the box and discs so I could probably Craig's List it. Ori was a code so that's done, but Gears of War and Rare Replay are on disc. 2 discs in 1 box actually. Gotta be worth at least $5.
Other issue is if Mario Odyssey and XC2 get delayed until 2018 then I have no reason to get a Switch until then, and I'll keep playing Rare Replay.
And no, I'm not expecting any game announcements to make me actually want to keep the X1, any game it gets I want will be on PS4. Or PS5 in a few years.
And I'm still expecting to be able to play blue Dragon on PC someday when MS abandons home consoles after PS4 and Switch crush Scorpio.
@LeRaposa I believe you are very, very wrong about that.
Arms I will be passing on
I'm just interested to hear about control options. If playing with 2 joy cons on the go is compromised then I'd get a lot less opportunity to play.
Arms has not so far impressed me. A full priced two player game that looks fun for a while but after a couple of hours you have done it.
Maybe it has hidden depth or a fantastic one played mode, unlike Splatoon but we have not seen this.
For me a miss.
@MrGawain ARMS is out the day E3 ends, Splatoon a month after, E3 is usually for new miles away releases, so I expected these 2 to be no shows.
Lol. nobody is going to play this game
@Dysnomia I think they're right
Already have Splatoon 2 pre-ordered and can't wait to play that, probably my most anticipated game of the summer after the Yakuza 1 remake. I want to be convinced that ARMS is going to be good, so hopefully this Direct does that. Hoping for a 'one more thing' moment at the end where they announce a demo for the E-Shop, I think that could go a long way to convince those of us on the fence, provided the game is as good as most of Nintendo's first party releases are.
I hope a new fighter will be revealed ^w^
@vitalemrecords
What are you basing your assumptions on?
Doing this over wasting E3 time for it is smart. The game is out during E3 so to skip it at the event is smart so other games get love.
@VENOMVSCARNAGE Hopefulyl they shock us all and reveal a VC the same day as E3. We waited long enough
@Kiz3000 Yeah. I was kind of in the same boat. I went to an event and after getting a ticket to play Zelda I got one to play Arms not really expecting much, but it was a blast to play. Quite a pleasant surprise.
Hope this direct will not be boring like the last.
I want to be excited, I just can't be. I don't really see anything that makes me want this game. It is also trying to compete with a bunch of other well established fighters. Why pick this over one of those?
Hopefully this direct will answer some of those questions. I'm all for more accessible fighting games, because they are extremely difficult to get into for new players, but something about this title just isn't doing it for me yet.
@Pod the game
Nice to tie it up with Splatoon 2 trailer, least it means we won't have an Arms overkill at E3.
@vitalemrecords
Well that's not very much basis now is it.
@MrGawain I hope so. I want third parties on board.
@Pod Well, the game is usually a pretty good indicator of whether or nor people will enjoy it
@vitalemrecords
But not of whether they will play it in the first place.
@Pod yeah, it's a pretty good indicator of whether people are going to be playing the game - you know - the thing - they'd be playing
@vitalemrecords
It isn't. You can advertise a bad game until everyone plays it regardless of how bad it is. At least for a bit.
This game is likely to be played by a lot of people.
@OorWullie haha hardly anyone... probably 10 after 5 years!
But yeah Switch is off to a great start.
@vitalemrecords feel free to read other replies to see people who are interested in the game. Thanks for the troll.
@Pod right - you're talking about something that is POSSIBLE - I'm saying what is going to happen. Nobody is going to play that game.
@Dysnomia i can tell people are curious about the game. And when it launches - they might sell some copies - and after a few months - the game will be d e a d - but cool - call people that don't agree with you a 'troll' - it is quite becoming
@vitalemrecords
You're not talking about something that is going to happen.
@Pod ok - hit me back in a few months when the game is dead
@vitalemrecords
You really have to define what you mean with "nobody is going to play this game"
Because if you just mean "numbers for people playing online consistently won't be anywhere near other major multiplayer games" then you are of course right.
But that's not what you're actually writing.
I don't even know what you mean with "dead" either.
@Pod like battleborne
@vitalemrecords
You're going to need to be slightly more specific than that. Also in regards to why the two games and their situation should even be compared.
@Pod No, not really. Just wait and see I guess. Either you can see this sort of thing from a mile away or you can't.
@vitalemrecords
You can't just say that something will happen, and then not explain what you actually mean. At least not if you want to act superior about it.
As of right now, no matter what happens, you can just say "That's what I said would happen" because you haven't been specific at all.
@Pod I have been specific enough. You're simply being pedantic about it.
@vitalemrecords
You have been incredibly unspecific.
You use the word "nobody" without actually meaning 0, and you don't provide any other numbers.
That is unspecific.
@Pod Wait, so you want like forensic evidence? Sorry, kiddo, this is the comments section of NintendoLife. Are you new here?
@Pod "incredibly unspecific" is still specific enough, keep your eye on those player stats! And then report back when you can't connect with anyone cuz nobody is playing it.
@vitalemrecords
I don't want forensic evidence. I want you to actually say anything of any substance. Personally, I don't play online games, so it won't be a problem to me if I can't find anyone to connect with. But your original statement that nobody will play this game remains nonsense.
no it doesn't
@vitalemrecords
Yes it does.
@Pod Lol. Just wait. Buyer's Remorse will set in. Then hit me back. Until then? Please, just go play your games.
@vitalemrecords
Now I don't even know what you are talking about anymore.
@Pod Having Fun Yet?
@vitalemrecords
What?
@Pod How's that game treatin ya?
@vitalemrecords
I don't know, I didn't buy it.
@Pod You're welcome.
@vitalemrecords
I still don't know what you are talking about.
@Pod cool - just scroll up
that's how comment sections work
you can catch up on everything
@vitalemrecords
It appears you are just pretending that the incredibly vague predictions you made somehow came true.
@Pod lol - sure - whatever you say
@vitalemrecords
You're still being vague and not actually saying anything of substance.
@Pod Lol... You're a broken record, aren't you?
@Pod I was right. Arms is dead.
lol.
@vitalemrecords
You still haven't specified what you mean by that.
@Pod Please specify what you mean by "haven't specified what you mean" - you're being pretty vague
@vitalemrecords
You only ever stated "no-one will play this game".
Over a million copies have been sold, and there is almost no wait time to play against an online competitor.
So I will assume SOME people play it.
@Pod So you've played it then?
@vitalemrecords
No, I don't own a Switch.
I do read up on the game though.
@Pod my research indicates that zero people play arms.
lol - ok - I'm out - that was a joke
peace!
@vitalemrecords
It's cool, and ultimately I know what you mean. Let's see what kind of legs this game can muster. Peace.
@Pod ooooo - LEGS - the DLC for ARMS
you're onto something!
@vitalemrecords
Now with even more disclaimers about being aware of your surroundings during gameplay!
@Spoony_Tech @JaxonH @Captain_Gonru
Just got back from trading in my Xbox One. It was discussed in this thread months ago so seems like a good place to confirm it. Got $110, could have got $150 back during the summer, but $110 sounded good to me, only paid $175 in March, so that was 6 months for 3 Gears of War games, Sunset Overdrive which was awesome, Ori which was a great 2D platformer, some Gold game, some EA games, and some Rare Replay, though not as much as I had originally planned. I only bought the thing b/c it was bundled w/ Rare Replay, but I can't stand those angular N64 graphics, and certainly not anything before that. My kids also played a few games, so 6 months for $65, well worth it.
So Switch next Friday it is then, w/ the bundled Mario code. I feel like I'm paying $80 extra for red Joycon. Expect to hear me complaining if there are any good BF sales. Stupid red joycon.
@rjejr If you take your Switch anywhere you will be thankful you have that carry case so that alone is worth the extra cost. Hope you and yours enjoys the new system!
