[Since publication it has been confirmed by Nintendo that this unit was stolen and then sold illegally; as a result we will no longer embed the video here.]
Yesterday we reported on the fact that footage of the Nintendo Switch UI had leaked online, and now the same poster has put live footage of the console's profile and Mii options.
We already knew that Miis would be optional with Switch, and that Nintendo was introducing an avatar system similar to that seen on Sony's PS4, where images of famous characters can be used as your profile pic.
You can see the various options in this video, as well as colour themes and other features. Have a watch and let us know what you think.

This looks cool. I wonder how Nintendo will implement these in future games? I wonder if it will be similar to Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy where they can be used as save files, rather than playable characters. I know they will still be in Mario Kart 8 deluxe, but does that mean they will still be playable in future Nintendo Switch titles?
I need a leak that's going to tell me when I can play super Mario sunshine via the virtual console
Why isn't this information been shown by Nintendo by now anyway
That's Mii in the photo.
Still not joining Facebook.
OMG Nintendo!
Where's Daisy, Toad, Rosalina, Wario and others? Seeing that they have PNG files and 3D World style icons, there's no excuse!
EXAMPLE
@patbacknitro18 the official stance is, "they will if the developers of said future games want them to be"
@nhSnork I know what they said, but that could change in the future.
@memoryman3 you'll be charged for a pack of 10 of course
@memoryman3 Icon DLC confirmed.
Edit: Darn, someone beat me to it.
@patbacknitro18 Why do you think that? Why would they ever release an update to the Switch what could make games or certain parts of games that support Miis unplayable?
Actually, that's a bit disappointing. No Miitomo integration even for simply sending a mii from the app on your phone to the Switch? I was hoping Miitomo would make more sense with the Switch. What a fool.
Also, no option to import any picture you want?
@Sakura Sadly, yet obviously not. Importing any picture you want = instant porn import for some people, ruining it for everybody from the first minute if they'd ever make that a feature.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE is that also you in the spotlight?
Oh mii god
I was also hoping miitomo would be used somehow, all them cool t-shirts and other clothes I got for my Mii and still for no apparent reason!
@SaKo Never know, they done similar things before
@patbacknitro18 Examples?
@SaKo For starters the Nintendo Badge arcade, which wasn't around till years after launch, but gave users badges that could not only decorate the home screen but could also function as buttons. Also the themes as well. Something that was added just a few years ago. Or even some of the Mii plaza games such as flower town, which weren't added till years after launch. Mii's are similar to those, as Mii's can be used in multiple ways. Whether they add Miitomo support for the Switch, or if they decide to bring in a Mii Plaza for the Switch. They could add the support in a number of ways. Not to forget that they still have Mii Amiibos which could have some functionality for the Switch in the future.
@patbacknitro18 I thought you were talking about removing features, not adding features. I'm all for that.
I don't understand what Nintendo are up to. Why are we learning all this from leaks?! They need to sort their house out, or my pre-order will get cancelled. Not saying I won't buy, but probably wont be day 1 as it stands...please don't hurt me comment section.
Will players be able to link their Nintendo ID to a Switch account?
@Blizzia Yep, people can be idiots. It's the mii design that's most disappointing. They already have the assets, why not implement some of them here if they don't want importing to be a thing.
"We're giving you more options." But not the options that already exist, a new inferior-looking system just because... Nintendo.
Well, okay, not a big deal, just typical.
@Shellcore Well then cancel it. More for us. These are just basic functions of the console, they don't need to baby use through that. heck they already gave us a basic gist of how this works, this is just showing us the exact features.
@CaptainRainbow Yes, that has been confirmed even before the Nintendo Switch got its full name.
@patbacknitro18 Thanks! Not sure how I missed that.
@memoryman3
That Mario one is on my arm 😊
its embarrassing for Nintendo that these leaks keep on happening maybe they should stop being so secretive. 2 weeks to go and we still haven't heard about the eshop yet....
@Sakura Yup, pretty typical. Nintendo keeps throwing away good things. That being said, the new UI and OS are just phenominal.
No Mii Maker music?!
We got a bunch of villagers but no Falco Lombardi?
Nintendo! Where's my Ace Pilot!?!
Pretty sure more will be added/bought in the future...
@Shellcore you're threatening to cancel your pre-order because of a few small details that are self explanatory, c'mon now
@Sakura in the e-Shop they might let you buy avatars (like on PS4) but they won't let you important ANYTHING you want because some people are immature
@patbacknitro18 @PikaPlayz Argh. I knew this was going to happen! My choice I guess. Don't worry, there will be plenty for you : )
Edit: My reasons are lack of games, no details for online (what details there are sound awful), nothing on virtual console, nothing on trophy support and not much from third parties so far. Completely understand some of this is subjective, so don't expect to influence anyone else's opinion. Like I said, will likely cancel my pre-order and pick up later when we know where the chips will fall.
I hope there's a way to copy over our Miis from other systems. I've had a collection of Miis that I've kept on my Nintendo consoles since the Wii launched. I know they're just little avatars but they're my little avatars.
@Blizzia Thinking about it, it's probably because the avatars need to be displayed on the home screen as tiny icons to indicate the users. Would still be nice to have hats though.
@Shellcore Lack of games? You haven't been looking very hard because everyone and there grandma has been announcing games for the Switch. And now that its been confirmed to support Unreal Engine 4, we will have many more games to be announced soon. Hell Xenoverse 2 is even coming to Switch. Online is rather vague but they promised details on a later date, which shoulden't disapoint. The Switch has 3rd party support out the Wazzo, everyone is bragging about it and plan to bring something to it. Ubisoft mostly with Beyond Good and Evil 2 being an exclusive for now. Think what you want but there is a massive line up of games for this year alone, knowing Nintendo the online support will be more than fair, and 3rd party will bend backwards to support this console, just as they are now.
@PikaPlayz Ah, the inevitable march of monetisation .
@Shellcore lack of games? ahem, there's like over 100 confirmed for the next year or so with more announcments for more games on the way at E3 2017, there is NO trophies or achievements and third parties aren't jumping on board straight away, they're doing the wait and see approach to see if the Switch does well, it's all about the install base but there will be enough third party support, with more announcements confirmed to be coming soon
@patbacknitro18 I own a PS4 so most of those games I can already purchase. Also, don't think third parties are bending over backwards to support the Switch...stretching the truth a little there.
The icons will probably be handled like on PS4, where more become available depending on the games you play.
Anyway, I like the ability to change icon backgrounds and hopefully themes come with more. Wonder if there'll be some sort of achievement system...
@PikaPlayz So the devs are allowed to take the wait and see approach, yet I get chastised for doing the same. Seems legit.
@Shellcore you're asking for third party yet you already own a PS4 and now you're saying it doesn't matter because you own a PS4, for gods sake
@Shellcore i'm not saying you can't but cancelling your pre-order for lack of SMALL details really is a bit silly, sure if you want to wait until the end of the year or next year when the library for the Switch is massive, sure, go ahead, I'm not saying you can't but your original comment gave a bit of a silly reason
I'm getting it at launch but only because I've never bought a console at launch and I want to play Zelda BoTW so this is a first for me but if you want to wait a little while go ahead (though why'd you pre-order it anyway if you were just gonna cancel it, that makes absolutely no sense)
expect massive announcements at E3 though, it's going to be huge this year.. I'm still thinking they're gonna announce a new Metroid just because Retro Studios have been teasing it lately so that's exciting
@PikaPlayz It's part of the bigger picture for me. I would really like to own one console with all the games I want to play on it, including Nintendo games which I adore. I'm honestly not looking to argue on a games forum. If you disagree, I completely accept that. The rumours of a new dock for the system brings me hope that we may eventually see full support. Anyway, have a good day. Hope I didn't annoy people too much.
@PikaPlayz Thanks. That's a bit more of a considered response. I preordered a long time back hoping we would know more leading up to release. This hasn't happened so would like to just wait a little before I damage my wallet. It's exciting buying Day 1. Great stuff!
@Shellcore yeah though expecting everything on one system is kind of wishful thinking, even i've come to accept that but I'll take what I can get as long as what third party we do get isn't lazy ports because no one likes a lazy port, they're always plagued with bugs and glitches and it just looks horrible, look at the Wii U's third party support, it had quite a bit at launch but most of them weren't very good ports, luckily the Switch isn't as enemic as the Wii U was so I hope we get more and better support than the Wii U did because this console is exciting, it's new and different, playing home console quality games at home and on the go is something we've never seen before so it has a lot of potential and the marketing so far with their ads has been very good and there's been a lot of it, you never really saw an AD for the Wii U back in the day on TV or in public areas, you never saw that so it's a step in the right direction and we'll see how it goes, the lineup for the first year though is surprisingly good despite the poor launch lineup, with the only good game being Zelda BoTW, it reminds me of the N64 Launch, the only good game it launched with was Super Mario 64 so its' interesting
Hope you can keep multiple miis. I loved their use on Wii and Wii U games.
@Sakura Haha, I can just imagine it. Pick a picture/icon, add a fancy bowler hat xD Perfect 10/10
@Shellcore
Hello. Sorry for bothering you.
If you want Nintendo games + some 3rd party games, Nintendo Switch is your answer.
Don't worry. The game titles during this year will be satisfied enough.
@G-Boy no music for any menu it seems :/
Mii !!
But, wait... where is ambient sound of Mii Maker ? Hm...
Switch is quieter than I thought.
@AhabSpampurse Losing my religion.
Huh. Skipped through video a bit, but I'd rather experience this myself on the screen on the first day rather than a sketchy video with someone else's heavy breathing. lol.
Probably good to note that there's a good chance this is still the unpatched version of the software with the usual expectation of an update availability turned on at launch day. (After all these machines were built months ago).
@memoryman3 I would not be surprised to see downloadable (free or not) avatar like these. Capt. Falcon for example.
@Anti-Matter Thanks for your advice!
You can import Miis via amiibo... Thank goodness! That'll save having to 'remake' the family again!
(For those who don't know, you can save Miis to amiibo on Wii U)
doesn't really show your Mii "Options" just that Miis are an option.
@Emperor-Palpsy
Huh ?!
Saving my Mii with Amiibo ?
How to do it ?
Is any Amiibo will working ?
Great publicity stunt Ninty. Very clever.
No someone can tell us if the microSD slot has the 2nd row of pins required for UHS-II card speeds... I seem to be the only one who cares about this.
@memoryman3 Uh...this is right in the article:
"We already knew that Miis would be optional with Switch, and that Nintendo was introducing an avatar system similar to that seen on Sony's PS4, where images of famous characters can be used as your profile pic."
@Damo I hate to ask you to do this Damien, but could you put in more links in articles? It's just too many people are jumping the gun on any "news" and forget previous confirmations (or don't read the articles). Having the links there will make things like the quote from above more visible and will have the added benefit of adding some extra heft behind the article's content.
....And the video is gone, go figure....I miss out on everything. :/
@Anti-Matter It's simple. Just go on the Mii Maker on Wii U, and there is an option to share your Mii on an amiibo, QR code etc...
@sandman89 you sir, are asking the right questions.
@patbacknitro18 nothing of what you're saying is based in reality, other than the fact that Switch supports Unreal Engine.
Oh and guess what, Wii U supported Unreal as well. How'd that turn out for them?
Looks like FloKO got the exclusive rights to it. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqVa1MB90PU
I really hope you can link and import your 3ds/WiiU Mii through the Nintendo ID or My Nintendo account...though really, why don't they have WAY more avatars to pick from, maybe even let you use badges from the Badge Arcade, or really, why not Miitomos?!?! Why do I have all these fun costumes and rooms for my Miitomo on the phone and that isn't just what the new Miis are on Switch?
I'll stick with my Mii personally, but hey it is nice to have more options!
So the Mii's aren't entirely out.
Am I the only one who wishes the Switch would still use Miiverse as but one of the options for social media? I mean, I'm excited that it looks like sharing to more "traditional" social media will be an easier process with the Switch, but I'm also gonna miss Miiverse. Having dedicated gaming communities where you could pose questions and get help from fellow gamers, it was jus so easy and convenient.
No background-music? Nintendo is notorious for its awesome background-music!
@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, I've grown so fond of my Mii I wouldn't have anything else. Since it's more unique ^_^
Hm I get a feeling the Mii avatars won't have such a big role on Switch? Since they were primarily used on Miiverse on Wii U/3DS. Though I love them in Tomodachi so a new game would be most welcome.
i am sad that there's no menu music at all . . that was special on the wii, 3ds and wii u menus
They should implement Miitomo into the Switch.. all those potential sales of accessories and garments for our Miis..
Are your guys Nintendo Account ID limited to only lowercase letters too?
Cool! I'm so glad the childish music and mii sounds are gone. (Yes those sounds were very irksome to me lol)
I am going to miss the music but I am glad that Nintendo has kept the UI minimal. They still have the best UI of the 3 for me. Sony and MS make me feel like I'm on a website that I can't use adblock with....not a good feeling at all.
