Following its spend of quite a lot of dollars on a Super Bowl ad slot, Nintendo of America is starting to spin off new and old clips from the 'extended' version of that commercial into smaller 30-second trailers. They've started to pop up on TV in the US, in any case, and have now been shared on YouTube.
There are some new sections included along with repeated scenes. The first trailer below showcases local multiplayer in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, 1-2-Switch and Just Dance 2017.
The second ad focuses on a few minigames in 1-2-Switch.
Do you think these are good commercials for the Nintendo Switch?

Nice...!
Another Switch commercial.
Hopefully 3rd party games commercial in the future.
I think I've already seen more Switch advertising than I saw for the Wii U over the life of that console... So that's good
Less 1 2 Switch in these commercials would be nice. Have we learnt nothing from trying to chase the Wii audience. Flame me all you want, i personally think this overpriced tech demo is a misstep.
Good ads. I also think gaming that shows it being fun and social
Is good for the industry as a whole.
Outside of 12S being the highlight, it's nice seeing the advertisements ramped up. I literally just saw both of these commercials while randomly watching TV in the past hour, not far apart either. It's nice to see a Nintendo console commerical again.
Stop trying to make 1 2 Switch happen Nintendo!
@Folkloner you don't have to buy it I'll get hours of fun playing it with my young daughter . I can see how it's not to everyone's taste though.
Well it is a marketing blitz I'll say that. I've decided that the big N is focused of marketing to non Nintendo fans at the moment. Probably figuring fans would be onboard regardless.
Maybe after the first month, they will start advertising more games, and talking about third party offerings, who knows. But yes I guess advertising the multiplayer is a good way to maybe get new people onboard
@Hikingguy
My roomie refers to it at 1-2 60?-is this priced correctly?
1-2 switch is not for everybody.
I gave up drinking over 3 years ago and I wanna keep it that way
Garbage. The Japanese ones are so much better.
The family scenario and the person-playing-alone-but-sometimes-in-public scenario are still the only realistic ones. They could show a children's birthday party, but I doubt Nintendo wants that image tied to the Switch.
I like the advertising. They are clearly trying to market that there is more than just Zelda for the Switch, which is a good thing regardless if it should have been a pack-in or not. I'm happy to see Nintendo advertising on TV again.
Hmm...
Good: Advertising, advertising, advertising
Bad: Casual experience advertised, casual experience advertised, casual experience advertised
It's not that the bad is "bad" per se, but to truly hit a high install base, AND, have the actual 3rd party games that hardcore types actually want to play, I would like to see more advertising of core 3rd party releases. Just my opinion, but less "Wii 2-ness" and more "Switch is a console for everyone-ness".
Hopefully the ads will continue throughout the life of Switch. Will be much more interesting when future games hit.
@Hikingguy
You nailed it. I don't generally criticize, because I don't know what the plan is, but I think 1-2 Switch is a missed opportunity. At $25, you can sell that as a "value" game that people take a chance on. No way do people pay what BOTW cost for this game.
And that's a shame really. It's not my cup of tea, but I think families would enjoy the game at a value price.
Has anyone seen any adverts on UK TV yet?
They seriously just need to bury 1-2-Switch and focus on their actual quality software xD I'm sorry to anybody who likes 1-2-Switch, but it's just not value for money. It should've been bundled with the Switch, and the Switch price tag should've been the same, because 1-2-Switch is just a Joy-con demo.
Need more commercials regarding Zelda, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and so on. Probably a bit early for the Splatoon 2 commercials though.
Either way I think that it's amazing they're actually advertising the Switch, unlike the Wii U, but they need to stop trying to hype the wii-like gimmick, because that moment has passed. Highlight the software. Highlight the adaptability of the Switch, the comfortable setup that lets you instantly go from home console to handheld, the almost instant transition, and the ability to play how you want, where you want, whenever you want. And do it while showing the software people would buy a system for.
1-2-Switch would've been a decent game bundled with the Switch itself or going for 15-20$, but anything more is just highway robbery.
@ThomasBW84 Nobody going to mention the gorilla game? Or have I missed that already being announced?
Edit: Near the bottom left of the second video at 0:24
Another edit: Never mind, I did miss it. Went back and found it.
@Folkloner
Hey r u the folkloner that did Ninty news on miiverse
@UK-Nintendo
Snap I gave up 4 years ago this April. I have drunk enough in the past to sink a battleship. Haven't touched a drop since there is no temptation
@OorWullie
Nah not 1 advert or any other advertising. It's like the switch doesn't exist here in UK. Can't understand why,what with the launch around the corner. I am bamboozled baffled
I saw TWO back to back commercials for the Switch this morning. This is really great! Even more great because I literally did not expect to see them today on TV lol
Keep on with the advertising Big N~
When will there be another Direct? Is there anything anounced?
But does it support UHS-II SD card speeds... we will never know.
I hate these commercials. They are to Wii like.
@NintySnesMan lol. Nice and congrats.
Only time I would play this is if I'm drunk and that's the end of me playing this game
This just makes me want another Wii Sports Club.
@Folkloner
No, I agree. The over-emphasis of 1-2-Switch is worrying. I don't mind the existence of the game, but I sure as hell don't want the Switch to be defined by that experience (especially at launch). It could easily shape the perception/image of the console among gamers and developers in a damaging way, making it look like a joke. These ads are in danger of becoming too much like "Hey remember that Wii waggle thing you all got bored of 10 years ago? It's that again!"
Please people buy 1-2 switch
I suppose you have to admire Nintendo's optimism in regards to the number of 1-2-Switch parties that will ever actually exist in real life.
"Play together wherever, whenever"
That's a nice tagline showcasing a distinct advantage.
I get worried for people who call these scenarios "unrealistic". People hang out and do silly things like dance and laugh and play dumb games even without alcohol! It's true, I've seen it with my own eyes! It's healthy even.
@Haywired These aren't 1-2-Switch parties they are get togethers where a couple people are enjoying a party game in a corner. That's why the Switch has potential for this sort of thing, it takes no effort, planning, or waiting to set up and play.
To a complaining about them showing motion controls and casuals, just stop. This is Nintendo, the philosophy of getting people who never really played games into games has always been a part of the company. Nothing wrong with showing how this thing can be used for parties too. So you might want to give up this pie in the sky dream of one day seeing a return of this imaginary "hardcore gamer" Nintendo that never really existed to begin with.
Anyone have any predictions on whether Switch will allow wireless Bluetooth headphones? I'm cutting the cord on all of my other devices pretty soon. Hopefully Switch allows it too!
I really don't know if these are good or not?
Time will tell if switch is successful.
@Folkloner
ESPECIALLY because it's full price. not pack-in. the Wii crowd could play like 5 sports without dropping another dime. And when they got bored they could buy one more game and be set. Switch could've done that with this and Zelda.
I get the 1-2 switch push trying to show the joy-con as unique, but it just feels like wii remotes to the generally public.
so they need to combo these adds with some motion-control stuff AND some core gaming stuff like MORE zelda, that NBA live stuff or even Skyrim. If those were announced.... to get EVERYONE'S attention.
Focus on big games not mini-games Nintendo jeese, people won't buy your console to play 1-2 switch
i still don't see the casual market spending that amount to buy a console and 12switch. as much as they will think "ok that looks cool" its still going to be the gamers that get this thing off the ground.
To be fair, Zelda has gotten a lot of trailer exposure, too. It was the lead game on the super bowl ad. I kinda wish they would feature Bomberman in one. Classic game that shows off the multiplayer like they do in the Mario Kart sections.
I saw those two ads today during Monday Night Raw today. Their the only two Switch ads that I've seen so far on TV as I missed the Super Bowl ad.
With those three ads, I think Nintendo may have already outdone the marketing they did for Wii U. I only saw one Wii U commercial and one Bayonetta 2 ad.
Everyone in here denouncing 1 2 switch seems to conveniently forget this is what New Nintendo is. This has been Nintendo's gig for the last decade. New Nintendo knows no other way then to absolutely sabotage any success their new system may have potentially had by putting all their cards in on this game.
It's like they learned nothing from Nintendo Land, which ironically, in comparison, looks like a full-featured AAA title compared to this. You don't even look at a screen to play it 1 2 Switch!
Nintendo are definitely hoping that this is the Wii 2!
Where's the 'shake the sausage' mini game?
@MeloMan Considering they're already advertising Breath of the Wild as the core experience why can't they advertise 1-2 Switch as the casual?
Some of you are coming off as wanting the system to be something for everyone, but that Nintendo should hide the casual experiences or pretend they don't exist, casual players are part of "everyone".
1-2 Switch is going to be a very accessible videogame which also demonstrates the Joy-cons. It's not a guaranteed success, but I think it does have a potential to be a success and helping the Switch a lot if it does end up being popular at parties.
I will try 1-2 Switch if it gets a price drop. I am more interested in the Jack Box 3 bundle. If 1-2 Switch has alot to offer maybe I will change my mind.
Nice Wii U commercials!
Technically these are just new edits of the original full-length SB commercial trailer. Good to see them actually USING them, though like others I'm concerned about the over-demonstration of 1-2-Switch, and to extend the Mario Kart "family play" and multiplayer focus. I realize local multiplayer IS a big selling point of Switch as no other system really provides it, but it does seem too reminiscent of Wii-era messaging (and the small amount of the terrible WiiU-era messaging.)
OTOH, the audience watching television probably is the audience these commercials are going to interest, while online advertising and word of mouth will reach more people interested in the other types of experience on offer.
It's good...but it's a little topheavy on the dancing games and kids parties feel of older advertising.
Was passing by the TV last night and was floored when I saw a 1 2 Switch commercial playing on USA during Monday Night Raw. That was a mere pipe dream in the Wii U days.
All Switch advertisements should carry the tagline "Make the Switch" somewhere.
It's both a catchy phrase associated with the name and also a subliminal message to consumers to go out and purchase a device.
Just saying...
@Folkloner what you say is not unwise young padawan. Many can learn from you they must
