Nintendo has announced some fresh details in a press release, and somewhat buried at the end is a game reveal for the 3DS. It's announced Mario Party Star Rush for the portable, with a release date of 4th November in North America (it's actually earlier in Europe, on 7th October).
Details are scarce, but it will be shown off by the Treehouse team on 15th July.
Viewers will get their first look at a new Mario Party game for Nintendo 3DS that includes additions and changes to make it much more fast-paced and portable-friendly – players no longer have to wait for their turn, as everyone moves at once.
We'll see how it looks in that broadcast. In any case, are you pleased there's another portable Mario Party on the way?

I didn't know of an E3 in July
guess that's when the NX reveal is
Will be shown at E3 on July 15, huh? E3 goes for an entire month?
Personally, I'm excited for this, but the "everyone moves at once" will probably turn away 95% of the Mario Party fanbase.
15th of July? Oh I see. Nintendo is showing a new game every day. That's why they have only Zelda and Pokemon today.
"Players no longer have to wait for their turn, as everyone moves at once."
Don't worry! There is a chance the car won't come back this time!
i don't get it ... will be there a digital event like the muppets from the last year ? since there is no conference this year too
this has the potential to be good. so hopefully it is! can't wait to see it in action 😃
I will be getting this since I loved Island Tour.
No more car?
The July thing is a typo right? lol
Oh dear...
...
Oh dear...
Zzzz...
@Yellowkoopa Everyone moves at once, so do you really think everyone will be in the car? That's a lot of drivers.
Don't have to wait while others take their turn? This sounds promising! I wasn't a fan of Island Tour at all, but loved Mario Party DS, so I hope Star Rush will be more like MP DS. And please no car mechanic!
Why bury details like that, so weird.
Pretty burnt out of Mario Party so it's a pass for me.
Well, by filling the portable Mario quota, this pretty much kills any hope to see Super Mario Maker on 3DS. Sucks.
Lost me at everyone moves at once.
Why can't they just make a normal Mario Party game anymore?
9, 10 and Island Tour are so horribly bad.
Sooooo, let me see if I got this straight. Everyone will move at once so players don't have to wait their turn. Sounds like the car returns, which was a big hit NOT, but don't everyone have to wait their turn ALREADY to say roll the dice even if they are moving all at once. I'll pass unless the boards are way longer and this has ONLINE
This is just disgusting. This has to be one of the worst E3 showings ever. A another Mario Party and more Amiibos?! Who the F asked for that?! Haven't we all been screaming about the horrible quality of these titles for the past 5 years?!
Considering the decline the series has been on for nearly a decade, I have very little hopes for this. Still, the new idea could be great or suck. If it is even a new idea, it could just as well be the darn group car again.
Replace "Mario Party" with "Sonic" every time a new series entry is revealed and one would imagine they're reading the same things...
Dear Mario Party: that is not good company
Maybe a Smash Tour like game, with everyone moving and a minigame occurring if two people land on the same space?
"everybody moves at once" doesn't necessarily mean "everybody moves in a group"
Let's wait and see.
It could end up being like the old games, but with the player turns happening at the same time.
Well I'm looking forward to tomorrow (July?). I'm just getting a player move separate but at the same time vibe from it. Remind me of another board video game but the name's not coming to me at the moment.
@Inkling Smash Tour, that's what I'm thinking of
@NintendoFan64 That's what I was thinking. If Star Rush is going to go for that type of gameplay, then I don't see why or how the vehicular gameplay from 9 and 10 would return in this.
@Tendogamerxxx we all knew it was gonna be like this. They already announced the cancellation of the hype train. It's your fault for arriving at the station!
If it's anything like Island Tour, then I'm skipping it. Island Tour was so bad. Though, the whole "everyone moves at once" thing implys otherwise.
We wanted Mario maker for 3ds
What we got was another Mario party game that no one cares or want
Nintendo hear from your fans for once
@andrew20 i didnt hear anyone want that... and besides i think nintendo should let the wiiu keep some of the fair exclusives it rarely gets.
I hope they return to the classic style from Mario Party DS and Mario Party 8. I don't like the car, and I don't like Mario Party Island Tour. But who knows, maybe this'll be my return to the franchise.
Hopefully it's better than 9, 10 and Island Tour.
So happy about this.
I love the Mario Party series. Yes even all the recent ones. MP9 is actually my favourite
@ThomasBW84 In Europe this is set to release on the 7th of October, just like the first four of the upcoming figures in the Super Mario amiibo line..
Well, I was excited until I saw that everyone moves together again.
Eh, I don't know how I feel about this news. I haven't enjoyed any Mario Party game since Hudson stopped making them, so I can't say I'm excited to see this game at all. I guess I'll just have to wait and see tomorrow.
I'm just curious how Nintendo decides on what games to make. I mean, whoever makes game decisions at Nintendo clearly doesn't listen to fans. I don't think anyone wanted another Mario Party game after Nintendo pretty much killed the series (same goes for Paper Mario). Island Tour did sell a little over a million units, which is good, but there are plenty of other franchises they could have went with and expected more profit from. I'm looking at you, New Super Mario Bros.
I'm not mad. Hell, we haven't even seen the game yet. It could end up being really cool. I'm just curious as to why this over so many other games.
"Everyone moves at once" means you CAN'T all be in the same damn car. That alone has me intrigued.
I'm new to Mario Party- I didn't think Island Tour or MP10 were that bad. I'm sorta excited about this.
@buildz
Yep that one phrase already tells me this will suck. How do they not realize the majority doesn't not like this mechanic. I know I am partly the blame for buying just to give it the benefit of the doubt. Played every board the day I bought it, haven't touched it since.
@rockodoodle
You need to play the first 5 to see what made a good Mario party game. All went downhill fast after those. I still play Mario Party 4 and 5 at least a few times a month or more with friends. 1-3's graphics have dated too much for me, but remakes would be awesome
I hope it won't be disappointing as MP9 and MP10 (the best mode was amiibo party at least), what we want is the traditional gameplay back and with each one walking in the board separately without car!
I'd give anything for a Mario Party Nintendo NX Collection. Including all boards and characters from all the games from N64 and Gamecube.
@zeldazero Yeah, that's probably part of it.... The Wii U and 3ds, aside from a few games on the GBA, are pretty much my only consoles since the SNES.
But as far as Nintendo games go, I'm pretty easy to please. I like simple mini-games. I'm still playing Rusty's Real Deal Baseball. And then I love pinball.
Please be good
PLEASE BE GOOD
P L E A S E B E G O O D
After becoming addicted to 100% Orange Juice on PC the only thing that will make me consider playing Mario Party again is Online Play. Seriously Nintendo this is NOT Rocket Science you morons.
lol if this is the only surprise game getting announced
@wiggleronacid Mario Party has been developed by Hudson Soft and only been developed by Hudson Soft.
Even the company, ND Soft that took over since Hudson Soft was shut down, is essentially made up of ex-Hudson Soft staff. That subsidiary is dedicated to developing the Mario Party games. Just like how Intelligent Systems is the dedicated studio for Fire Emblem and the Paper Mario series.
A lot of people posting here have no idea how game development works especially within Nintendo. Most major series in the company have their own dedicated studio. So blaming the ENTIRE company for how one studio handles the game makes very little sense. That's like saying people blaming Intelligent Systems (or any other studio not related to development of a series) if a bad PIKMIN game is ever created.
Or worse people blaming Nintendo for how the Mario Golf, Mario Tennis or even Pokemon games are developed (each one of those series is developed by a contracted 3rd party ie Camelot and GameFreak).
@televisions
There wasn't supposed to be ANY surprise games announced from Nintendo this e3. We already knew the year's lineup for some time- Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Dragon Quest 7, Dragon Quest 8, 7th Dragon 3, Kirby Robobot, and some Disney and Lego stuff.
This is just a bonus. I mean, Nintendo practically bowed out this e3 when they postponed the NX reveal. So, nothing new now (except Zelda since that's coming to Wii U) but expect a maelstrom of announcements when they reveal the NX and all its launch games and launch window games.
Honestly can't wait for that July E3
I'm hoping by "everyone moves at once", they mean everyone rolls their dice at the same time and each move individually, and not "everyone moves together".
And please bring back non-linear boards with a set number of turns. I don't like "racing" to the end of a board at the fortune of random events and dice rolls. It's not fun.
If the Board games concept kinds like Island Tour, still looks okay for me but not really hyped. BUT, if the Board games concept like MP9 or MP10 (with one vehicle to hold all players), no thanks. I'll stick on my Wii Party to enjoy simple and fun Party game.
Even though I don't care so much about the car thing, I'm not a big fan of portable Mario Parties anyway. Island Tour wasn't so great and it DIDN'T have cars.
@JaxonH that just seems crummy to those who supported them in the WiiU.
And dumb since they'll have no Holiday game.
cars....Cars.....CAAAAARRRRRRSSSSSS!
If it really is different from 9 and 10, I can only imagine them going back to the old formula with everyone moving around at the same. That already sounds more interesting, I guess we'll find out soon
@Ernest_The_Crab ...
You do realize that they're supervised by Nintendo SPD, right? Well, before the merger of EAD and SPD, which formed EPD. So still supervised by Nintendo.
Let's not forget how rushed Amiibo Festival was. Nd Cube developed that, too.
I'll only forgive the reversion to MP 9/10 mechanics if this actually has Online support. Then all sins shall be forgiven.
@televisions
Well showing NX games at e3 isn't gonna make it any better for Wii U owners. Either way- shown them now or show them 3 months from now- the system has had its time and they're moving on. I honestly am pleased with their support for Wii U owners. I bought a Vita and Sony dropped it like a bad habit not 2 years later.
But YA, it sucks to not have a big holiday game. No two ways about it.
I must of been the few that liked mp10...
@TheWPCTraveler You mean take a glance at it to see if the game is broken or not? I seriously doubt anyone that needs to supervise that many projects would be able to take a long enough glance at the games, not that I would expect that as those people themselves have their OWN projects to look after as well.
Unless it's a major series like a main Mario or Zelda game, which this is not, the studio will be left to their own devices. Adding to the fact that people KEEP buying these games regardless of the quality the studio themselves are not going to see a problem.
And supervising is NOT the same as developing something. Quite frankly, this can amount to simply checking if funds are sufficient (and budgets aren't getting inflated), project milestones are being reached at appropriate times, no inappropriate material is being tossed in, etc.
It's not like the main Nintendo divisions have actually ever developed or been closely involved with a spin-off game like Mario Party. The only exceptions of direct intervention happening have been in Pokémon Silver/Gold and Super Smash Bros Melee where Iwata took it upon himself to help with the coding of those games.
There would be absolutely no point in having separate studios at all if management had to step in EVERY SINGLE time. The studios HAVE to have a certain level of autonomy and be trusted that they can manage their own games.
It seems like a simple concept. You've got fans directly telling you what to do with your franchise. "TAKE AWAY THE CAR! MORE MARIO PARTY 1-8, LESS 9-10! MINIGAMES R STILL GOOD!" It's not that hard when a huge majority of the fanbase is doing your job for you. Don't even need a focus group! Sonic also has a similar issue, except 2D vs 3D is a whole lot bigger deal than car vs no car. 3D Sonic has potential, if they ever decide to pull their heads out of their rear ends and sit down to make a quality game. Car Mario Party just doesn't work. When it's such a simple fix for a simple problem to an otherwise good game, just GIVE FANS WHAT THEY WANT!
July 15? i didn't know we had to wait a month for E3 xD
joking wise, can't say for sure if im interested in this title. i dint like Mario Party: Island Tour that much.
@NintendoFan64
uh..wha?...XDDD
Was their any mention of online play? If there isn't online play, I don't think I will pick this up. I don't have enough people to play with locally on a consistent basis. Island Tour was torture enough.
