TV commercials are an artform. Advertisers are limited by time and are competing with a wide range of other products for your attention, so these bite-sized productions have to deliver their message as tightly and effectively as possible.
Few commercials are as successful - and downright strange - as those created by the Japanese. YouTube user Aya-Maya Eve has put together a selection of vintage clips which show off some of the best adverts, including a bunch from our friends at Nintendo, and associated third party publishers.
Highlights include Star Fox, various Sonic commercials, a few amazing Metroid ads and some Fire Emblem TV spots. Both videos are basically essential viewing.

Heh, I had one of those Bar code battlers
"Fireemblem" xD
Ah, memories...
These old commercials have that awesome feeling in them, even though you might have never seen them when they were relevant. Especially those Capcom ones with drawn animations with huge amount of atmosphere in them, makes me miss the times when commercials used to look like this.
Makes me want to get my barcode battler out of storage
May be a slow news day, but this made my morning.
I didn't know those things in Dr. Mario are a bunch of synchronized swimmers.
That Super Metroid commercial was freakin' awesome. Gotta love that stop animation Samus at the end. Lol.
Marvelling on the mysteriousness of those Fire Emblem ads helped me through some difficult times years ago.
