Nintendo UK has named PrettyGreen as its new PR agency, replacing previous firm 77PR.
PrettyGreen - which has Nando's, Virgin Media and John Lewis on its client list - will be in charge promoting Nintendo's titles in the region, with Splatoon being its first major project.
Nintendo UK's head of communications Jo Bartlett had this to say about the announcement:
We're excited to be welcoming the PrettyGreen team into the Nintendo family. They've shown themselves to be creative and strategic in their thinking and we're looking forward to working with them to deliver some fantastic campaigns for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in the months to come.
PrettyGreen founder Mark Stringer was equally happy, stating:
As an Agency we have a reputation for helping brands define and redefine creative culture and Nintendo is one of the most iconic brands out there; few can lay claim to having played such a consistent role in providing worldwide family entertainment for so long! It's great to be embarking on a new journey with the Nintendo Team at such an exciting time for the brand.
Do you think a new PR firm will invigorate Nintendo's brand in the UK and help push the Wii U and 3DS to stronger sales in 2015? Let us know your thoughts on this news by posting a comment.

So glad Nintendo is pushing Splatoon to the max. Almost like they did last year with MK8. I hope Splatoon does so well in sales cuz it looks awesome and I'm sure it will be a ton of fun to play.
Well, I guess this is a good thing, right? Whatever they can do to help Splatoon sell well, that's great.
But, nice move putting that green-filled header image to represent "PrettyGreen." =P
@arronishere If they do advertise...
For this to work, Nintendo needs to loosen the purse strings a little. Otherwise they'll end up no better than they are now.
I'm curious to what creative advertising ideas this company will come up with for Nintendo. Does anyone know of the advertising history with the other companies listed? Anything that has stood out?
@erborlongan Wow they've done work for a lot of big brands. It'll be interesting to see what they can do for Nintendo and their penny pinching ways.
I think it's a good move, Nintendo's TV advertisements haven't been anywhere near the scale of other other companies in the industry and hopefully this new partnership will remedy this.
Splatoon is a great project to start with!
Finally. Nintendo UK have finally realised that they need some help.
John Lewis is highly successful, and the Virgin Media ads are pretty good too. With Splatoon looking like a fantastic new IP, expectations must be high for May & June.
I read that the Nintendo brand is the most profitable out of the big 3, so surely they could spend a few quid on a big advertising campaign.
It seems Ninty thinks Splatoon is good enough AND has a chance of reaching a larger audience than those who already have a Wii U. Fingers crossed.
Well the situation couldn't get any worse!! With regard to UK promotion of the brand, the UK handling has been dire.......
For a few moments there I thought they were being promoted by Liam Gallagher's clothing firm Pretty Green.
This can only lead to good things. Mario Kart 8 had moderate advertsising on tv but nowhere near enough as it should have. Have to say though i did see two Monster Hunter 4 ads on mainstream channels two nights on a trot which surprised me. The Wii U needs all the ads it can get. Maybe even re-advertise Mario Kart 8 and the DLC prehaps? Would make a great move especially with the summer holidays in 2 1/2 months which isn't that far away.
I'm certain that 90% of this campaign will be on kids channels
@bouncer0304 That's a great idea, promote Baby Park!
Hopefully this will help. I think the last thing I've seen advertised was Mario Party, I never once saw a Smash Wii U advert, only 3DS. It's been pretty appalling, I don't understand it at all, you would ALWAYS see Wii adverts, but they just don't seem to care anymore.
Virgin Media's adverts are great so I have high hopes for this paring.
They can promote all try like without voice chat and local multiplayer you won't see this reaching the masses. Plus without these two things this game will be a game that comes and goes instead of sticks. It's sad.
@Ic3pick039 It has local multiplayer.
@BieberBlows it has local 1v1 which they consider a "training" you cannot do a 4v4 unless your online no split screen.
I just wish they actually had team chat I don't care about talking to everyone else
@BieberBlows @Ic3pick039 I actually hadn't noticed that, as I'm assuming allot of other people haven't. I'd assumed you could have 4 players at one home taking on 4 players online for example or 2 vs 2 on one wii u!! I'm actually a bit pissed it's not there as local multiplayer is the priority consideration of the whole Wii u concept! This is the reason they didn't have online with games like Nintendo land and sm3dw for example as they stated they wanted people having fun in the same room as a core design choice.....
Anything has to be an improvement on the last lot. But NIntendo does need to realise that a major reason for the WiiU's failure is that it has not been advertised on TV. Online is all well & good but nothing beats TV ads. Wii Fit was a massive success for Nintendo, but FitU has little known to anyone, with NO advertising, similarly all the classic Nintendo named games fared little better. Why should third parties risk a WiiU development when even NIntendo cannot be bothered to promote the console.
One final thing, did the 'new' PR agency come up with the dreadful 'New 3DS' advert? A key feature is the massive improvement in 3D usability with the New 3DS but the advert forgets to mention it !!
@ThumperUK I think this is something that just happened, likely due to adverts like the New 3DS. But I don't see Nintendo ever engaging in TV advertisements again, I think they've become too conservative with their money.
So from what I read, in sum: good
PR doesn't necessarily cover advertising. John Lewis Christmas TV ads etc are done by an Ad Agency.
I think these guys handle stuff like branded consumer events and deal with Media relations etc...
The John Lewis penguin thing was a stroke of genius - Virgin media ads are ubiquitous - can't say I've ever seen an advert for Nando's though!
@ULTRA-64 yeah it's really frustrating they're doing this game backwards. All this anticipation and they ruined the main part of the game. It's really disappointing. I'll still be picking it up but without those things I don't see me playing it as long as I had hoped. On top of that I have had my friends back out on buying it because we can't function easily as a team.
YES!! Virgin Media advertise A LOT! Like every week a letter comes to my house addressed 'householder' or my mums name, it's advertisement material! Looks like a great partner, I hope to see more advertising! Obviously not expecting Nintendo leaflets/letters in the mail though.
Nintendo needs an advert like one of John Lewis' this Christmas. Something that hits at the heart-strings and makes people reminisce about the days of old. Something beautiful...
Good! The old one was awful.
I'm so pumped for Splatoon! I just got my preorder in for the 3 amiibo!
hey, it can't hurt any more.
Why not combine things? When Zelda U comes out, an option to order delicious Nando's Cucco, I mean, chicken, from your Wii U gamepad.
Well done Nintendo. Now lets keep the good work going
@arronishere Nothing will keep those people happy.
