It's already pretty well known that the runaway hit franchise Yokai Watch has had plans to spread out of Japan and peacefully annex the West into its empire. But in case you were worried they were beginning to forget about us, Level-5 head Akiro Hino recently confirmed that the anime will be among the items coming overseas.
According to Gematsu, Hino confirmed the news during the release of Yokai Watch the Movie: Tanjou no Himitsu da Nyan!. The anime is planned to air in Europe, the United States and other countries, and while some character names will change, others such as Whisper and Jibanyan will remain unaltered.
In a more vague but intriguing announcement, Hino took the opportunity during an interview with Wedge Infinity to mentin that Level-5 is working on a fresh concept that's intended to eclipse even the massive success of Yokai Watch:
Around this time next year, I think we’ll have something out that’s different not just from Yokai Watch, but anything else we’ve ever done before. 2015 is going to be yet another big year of change for us.
2015 will be a year where we usher in a hit bigger than Yokai Watch.
That's a mighty big claim given the dominance the Yokai Watch series has held over Japanese sales charts, but it's not necessarily a bad one to make when you're already the elephant in the game room. What do you think Level-5 could have up their sleeve, and are you looking forward to the anime being among the likely many properties hitting in the West? Let us know.

If the anime is coming to the U.S. then surely the game will!
They should definitely release a version for the Wii U. Japanese Wii U sales would skyrocket..
@Dpishere Hopefully. Little Battlers Experience (aka Danball Senki, a game series turned anime by the same developer) came over some time ago and there's no game in sight.
That said, I imagine there'll actually be a merchandising and advertising scheme for Youkai Watch, considering it's success in Japan and desire for it to succeed.
Im curious how the game and anime will be received in the west, from what I've seen the game looks fun and has the potential to sell well. Unsure about the anime, but for what it's worth my little sister thinks the Youkai are cute.
Don't care that much about the anime, but if it paves the way for the games, I welcome it.
I have no idea what this is about, but its massive success as a game has me curious!
I hope it's another game like Professor Layton where you abduct children and don't seem to actually teach classes.
@nessisonett
ahahaha, but cruel
It'll be the new Pokemon.
I hope they bring LBX over. Its far more interesting than this.
That does it, after the holidays I'm changing my avatar to the Wonderflick logo.
That demonized Meowth still bothers me.
After the festive excesses, I'll be the elephant in the gaming room.
@Sergio151 I don't really see the point in telling him it won't be the next Pokemon as if you're setting him straight, when you really have no clue what will end up happening with it. It's extremely successful right now and you can't say it'll just be a fad, because you never really know if something was a fad until it's suddenly gone. People could have easily made the same predictions about Pokemon.
I really hope this means that the games will come over, too! I really want to try these out!
Buy them already Nintendo!
@mch not a bad idea
Level-5 has slowly but surely become one of my favorite game companies. Given the amount of time I'm currently sinking into Fantasy Life, it's fair to say I'm giving a chance to whatever they send out way at this point.
Is this the new Pokémon?
I think the Youkai watch anime is pretty fun, though there isn't a real danger (like there was in the Inazuma eleven series). It's also much more childish (and loony) then Inazuma. But still fun to watch.
Hurry up and gimme my Yokai Watch already!!! I've been watching the anime recently and can TOTALLY understand why it's so popular over there. I MUST HAVE IT!!! Why next year!? Why!!?
Also, I'm intrigued by their surprise project. I think it's impossible for something to top Yokai Watch at this point, but since sound so certain about it, they've definately caught my interest. Their games have always been of very high quality in my opinion so I'll definately keep my eyes peeled on this.
