Since this article was posted, we'd been contacted (and read in the comments) to suggest that Hideki Kamiya may have been teasing with his declaration that Bayonetta 2 would feature in the E3 Nintendo Direct. He since posted the following tongue-cheek tweet.
He's since been replying to various tweets in a tease-tastic manner, so who knows? In case the game designer is in full lovable scamp mode, we've adjusted the headline accordingly. We'll know for sure soon enough!
Original Article:
During Nintendo's official Wii U release date reveal last year, one of the most high profile and surprising announcements was that Bayonetta 2, sequel to the popular Xbox 360 and PS3 title from Platinum Games, would be exclusive to Wii U. Nintendo had picked up publishing duties in order to make the project possible, and in that act had secured exclusivity for its console, causing quite a stir in online gaming communities.
Not much has been seen of it since, beyond a few minutes of behind the scenes footage earlier in the year, but tweet-happy Platinum Games man Hideki Kamiya has taken to the social network to confirm that the title will be shown off during the big N's E3 Nintendo Direct on 11th June.
That does raise hopes that this game could still feasibly arrive in 2013, as the broadcast is supposed to focus on Fall and Winter releases for Wii U. Nintendo has launched a website and countdown for the broadcast, and we've pinned our hopes on a release for Bayonetta 2 this year by placing it in our latest "biggest Wii U games of 2013" feature.
Are you still excited about Bayonetta 2 coming to Wii U, and is it a game you're keen to see during E3?

While it probably is going to be there, this is just Kamiya trolling people.
I wish Nintendo would buy Platinum before someone else does!
Mad World 2 please!!!
bayonetta was popular? lol! thats news to everyone. Bad sales & no one wanting to fund the sequel untill nintendo stepped in. yep real popular...
I never know if he's trolling or not.
@URAlsr The original sold around a million copies I think. And besides, most series do not get popular till their second or third game. The Bayonetta brand can still grow and gain new fans.
Hahah, this is a joke, he does this to everyone who asks him poop about bayonetta...
@URAlsr The original game sold almost 2 million units (http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=bayonetta) and has an average of 90 on Metacritic for the 360 and 87 on the PS3 (http://www.metacritic.com/search/all/bayonetta/results). So it was definitely well received and sold pretty well.
I don't know how much went into making the game, publishing, distributing, advertising, etc., so even with 2 million units sold, it may not have been extremely profitable, and that may be why no one wanted to publish a sequel. But that's just a guess.
I finally got around to playing the first game, and it is awesome! Nintendo grabbing the exclusive to this was a brilliant move. Later this year, you will be mine!!!
Kaiymia trolls people a lot so I wouldn't take this as any sort of conformation at all. It will probably be there but an early build at best.
Hahahahaha man.
This guy is nuts... in a fun way!
I'll believe it when I see it.
Take as long you need as long as it plays in 60 fps unlike the original ps3 version
There's a chance that the first game MIGHT come to the eShop. Even if that happens, I'll be more than glad to purchase it a 3rd time.
I'm interested in this game since there are no action games for the WiiU, but not being able to at least download the first is a major crux. At the very least they need to give it a subtitle instead of Bayonetta 2.
"the broadcast is supposed to focus on Fall and Winter releases for Wii U"
This seems like a winter game to me, winter being Jan., Feb., and March in the US, so I don't see it in 2013. The end of 2013 should be all about first party stuff and family entertainment. I very much want it, but this doesn't belong under the Christmas tree.
Note - I haven't read the "best of" post yet so maybe it'll change my mind.
I'd love it if they included the first game on the disc, like how AC double pack did it.
@URAlsr It didn't sell bad and actually...Bayonetta has a huge following. I take it you didn't play the first one?! For all those who spoke negatively about the game are the same ones pissed off that it's not coming to their console of preference. I'm glad it's a Ninty exclusive. Now I don't have to worry about achievement/trophies for the game!
@Lionsgate
Have you tried Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor Edge?
I'm buying Nintendo/PlatinumGames' Bayonetta 2 when it's launched for the U! And if SEGA gives PG the green light to release the original at the eShop, I'm STILL buying it!
Duh, I'm buying EVERYTHING that Platinum releases for Nintendo. I want them to maintain a healthy relationship. I've enjoyed every game they've developed for Wii and the fact that they're doing awesome Exclusives should be reason enough for fan support.
Step 1: Wii U audience buys many Ubisoft games
Step 2: Ubisoft decides to continue support (AC4, Watchdogs, Splintercell)
Step 3: Repeat Step 1 with other deserving companies and their games.
The first one should come to the eShop so I can actually play it.
After all the "Kamiya trolling" or "Kamiya'd" I can't take this seriously.
Would love to see this this year, but realistically I bet it surfaces beginning 2014. How about Ninty buys platinum and then puts out a sequel to Vanquish!
@Farmboy74 Would love a sequel to Vanquish also!
After Bayonetta 2 I hope Nintendo gets them to work on something like Metroid: Original M.
Still hoping for a Wii U version of the first game.
Awesomeness
@Sonicfan11589 lol, its really good. I got it on my 360 and if it comes to the Eshop I will get it.
Let me see here...
Super Mario 3D
X
And now Bayonetta 2.
Now all we need is a New IP, and this will be the best E3 in a long time.
@ToadFan the game sold about 1million on Xbox 360 and about 1.2 million on PS3, considering its a completely new IP thats pretty good!

I enjoy Platinum games, thank goodness for Nintendo stepping in.
Ok ninty do the math.you got the awesome bayonndta 2 coming, but its guna be a while. You want people to be excited for this game.Youve just gone into a partnership with sega...sega published the first game...sega working on wii u.Platinum games, working on wii u...Do I need to spell it out?
I don't know, Kamiya certainly loves to mess w/people on twitter. However, it should be there in the Direct.
Only if we get Bayonetta 1 on the eShop!
He always tweets stuff like that
@URAlsr it was one of those games everyone missed out on, but it is a good game and one of the reasons I got a Wii U besides Monolith's X and Wonderful 101.
I'm hoping Bayonetta 2 will be successful on the Wii U, else this is a fair well good bye my long lost Bayonetta.
[I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing i've become]
I'll be very happy if we do get an E3 update on Bayo but I'll be laughing my tushy off if we don't. Kamiya is a trollmeister.
Look at my excited Kirbyonetta!
He sure wants to face her.
Finally SOME news about Bayonetta 2. I haven't heard anything pretty much since its teaser trailer at E3 last year. I was getting worried it was in development hell. Well, I still am, but at least there's news...
well to me this is a no brainer of course they will show it at E3 and you know why? cuz to nintendo its a new IP and im sure they are taking it as one of the top games to get for Wii U(or exclusive)
yet i dont know anything about the first game at all xD but still curious on what this is about so hope we get a trailer or something like the watch dogs game
this game going to be awesome
@Daniel_Switzer Not entirely. He did confirm The Wonderful 101 was going to be in the last Nintendo Direct which was true.
@ibrahimman0 Yep! New series need time to grow
Eh the article is still a bit flawed since this was a litmus test to see if Journos just post anything without posting rumor or confrimeing.
