Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: How To Defeat Dark Alpha Splinter 1
Image: Nintendo Life

Welcome to the first boss guide of our full walkthrough for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. We’ll be taking on the Alpha Splinter and its dark form in the Great Temple.

The first boss of the game should be somewhat easy right? Possibly not in this case.

How to beat the Alpha Splinter

You’ll enter into the Great Temple junction room and be ambushed by Dark Splinters. After you defeat them, an Alpha Splinter will drop into the room. In this first phase try to remain locked on at all times as it will try to take a damaging leap at you, escaping your lock.

After it attacks it will return to the centre of the arena, so you can return your lock and keep attacking it. Mix up which direction you strafe in otherwise it may catch you off guard and damage you if you keep moving in a similar pattern. Keep up the firepower with your energy beam and missiles to unload heavy damage onto it.

Dark Alpha Splinter

This is where the real boss fight kicks off.

You’ll know when phase two begins when the Alpha Splinter gets covered in dark energy and changes into a Dark Alpha Splinter. The Dark Splinter will no longer try to centre itself to the room, instead it leaps around the room at its leisure. Unlike the first phase, the second phase has a health bar so you keep track of what damage you're doing to this pesky bug of a boss.

Though The Dark Alpha Splinter continues in a similar attack pattern through leaping at you, It can now launch small blasts of dark energy at you. Keep moving around and strafe to dodge its attacks while firing, remember your missiles!

Reward for beating Dark Alpha Splinter

Keep up the firepower and you'll soon defeat the first boss of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Your reward for beating the boss is the Energy Transfer Module, a device required to save Planet Aether.
