Japanese Charts: Princess Peach: Showtime Rules Over The Competition

PS5 sales still looks good in Japan. 😊
I have collected more money in order to buy PS5 machine in May 2024.
Just one more salary on 28 April 2024 then I'm ready to buy PS5 machine.

Doesn't really seem like it's taking the world by storm or anything - by comparison Mario RPG did about four times this much - but am glad it's at least doing decently. It's a good game even if it's not exactly going to blow you away.

yikes as of now Nintendos only brand new games for 2024 and don't even crack 100k

those are some very low figures for a Nintendo exclusive...

Such is the Power of Princess Peach! Glad to see the game doing great. It's pretty good, hope it becomes a recurring series similar to Luigi's Mansion or Yoshi.

Wow, it even outsold Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise Of The Ronin. Despite releasing alongside those two long awaited games it still managed to rule the charts. Even Dragon Quest was conquered by Peach.

Glad to see Princess Peach doing well. I want to see a game where she becomes Queen Peach lol. Also glad FFVII Rebirth is doing well, that’s on my ps5 wishlist! I’m almost saved up to get one 🙂

The sales of PS5 makes ZERO sense... 2 different big Japanses developed games who sells +60k each, and yet PS5 can't sell more than 30k...
What are they even playing with their PS5 in Japan?

FF7 Rebirth is a huge flop it appears. FF§5 and FF7 Remake were considered as flops since they just sold 900k each in Japan, and then FF16 came and sold below 500k, and now this with FF7 Rebirth.

I don't even to dare to think what is "Switch 2" indeed is a Switch 2. If it really has the specs of PS4, even if it's a bit below, or at same level, or a bit above. It will crush completely everything in Japan which makes Switch's domination in Japan looking cute as comparison.

Also where did 9 people find a 2DS?!

@Keman plenty of games in japan can only be played with either a ps5 or ps4 or xbox and since no one buys a xbox in japan the ps5 and ps4 are the only alternatives..

@JohnnyMind I'll guess people prefer to buy the expansion digitally instead of buying what I assume it's the base game + The expansion for full price.

Great to see Showtime do well. Also nice week for Switch hardware, already surpassed 30M over there and still going.

Every time I see this update I'm amazed by the staying power of mario kart. Generally 1 out of every 6 switches sold in Japan has a copy of mario kart. That is a huge attach rate.

Looks like the PS5 is on its last legs.

@fenlix I don't think Princess Peach is the sort of game that has hundreds of thousands of hardcore fans buying it day 1.

Super Princess Peach did a lot less at launch and went on to sell 1.7million. The real test will be long-term sales. targetting younger players means sales will be spread out as kids either save pocket money or ask for it.

Nintendo doesn't even need to try anymore to win in Japan. And that's actually a bad thing for players it means they can get away with selling lower-quality games.

Good. I hope it sells well so we can get more Mario spin-off titles. I enjoy these chances for characters like Peach to shine.

It's interesting to see some PS5 software on the charts... and the sales declining.

@JohnnyMind Looks like Dragon Quest X Online: The Door to the Future and the Sleeping Girl is just a code for the latest expansion and does not contain a physical cartridge, so the copies sold here are just the people who wanted to buy a code in a box. Also worth noting that DQ10 launched back in 2012 so these numbers aren't that bad.

@JohnnyMind This is just the newest expansion to Dragon Quest X. By far most people will be buying it digitally as it's an MMO.

I recently purchased 2 brand new 2DS Super Mario Bros 2 Editions in store for $200. $100 each in 2024! 😀 I couldn’t believe it, they were just sitting there stocked behind the cashier on clearance. So they’re some still out there in retail believe it or not. I’m just as surprised as you regarding it beating out Dragons Dogma 2, it’s a very good game. Nintendo just runs Japan.

I tried the demo for Princess Peach. It was fun. The battle system is really cool with the dodging and timing mechanics - Kinda like the Ys and Bayonetta games, but the window is wayyyy more forgiving. Very cool. Not a huge fan of the performance of the demo, but the gameplay is very tight.

@Lizuka Why does everyone want to set this game up as a commercial failure if it doesn't sell 10 million. Most gamest don't even sell 100,000 and I bet this game is going to sell at least 3 million.

@fenlix so idk if you're being sarcastic but it's on the top of the list in it's 2nd week. And it's only on Nintendo Switch and not on any other console or PC platform. So yeah doing great actually.

@WhyYouLie Nah, Switch exclusives are expected to sell 150-300k first week in japan. The other games in the top aren't doing that well either.

@Dr_Lugae I don't think it'll do crazy numbers in the long term sales, mostly because the switch 2 will most likely drop new year.
